The Ruined World Was Mistaken for a Game

Chapter 68.2: Great Achievement (5)

Chapter 68.2: Great Achievement (5)

The hero ‘Hand Genius’ had been incredibly happy these days. Thanks to FS Games’ medical support program, he received Soul Link, and recently, he had gotten permission to generate revenue, so his mother was able to reduce her workload.

At the Soul Link handover ceremony, none other than Lee Jinwoo came in person!

Lee Jinwoo was his idol.

When he handed over a wooden boat he made for him, Jinwoo smiled brightly.

‘Thank you.’

‘It’s a little crude, right? Haha....’

‘Not at all. I hope the heroes will cross the sea on boats like this. Please make them in Arsilan too.’

Jinwoo’s words felt sincere.

Since he was young, he had trouble with his legs and could only sit.

He had been teased a lot and being ostracized was a daily occurrence. But what helped him endure was his mother, who worked late into the night for him.

She would massage his legs and say she was sorry for giving birth to him this way. Each time, he would smile and say that the strength of his legs had gone into his hands, so he could make anything with them, comforting her.

That’s why his hero name was Hand Genius.

To walk.

To be able to run.

It was an immense happiness. As soon as Hand Genius arrived in Arsilan, he cried as he ran around. No one laughed at him. Everyone was touched.

“Hmm, today....”

He carried a large backpack and checked his messages.

LifeHunter: I’ve heard you’re a skilled Magic Engineer. There’s a festival being held in Elvens, so I hope you’ll lend us your skill.

Hand Genius was a Magic Engineer.

His class was Mage, but he had learned Alchemy and Magic Engineering as production classes and was running various businesses. Lately, some heroes had even started calling him an inventor.

His level was still in the 20s, but he was confident that in Alchemy and Magic Engineering, he was second to none.

“Oh, Elvens?”

Hand Genius had also heard of Elvens. It was the village of veterans that was rumored to clear achievement quests the fastest. The hunters who had settled there were extremely famous.

Their cool and quick way of clearing village openings and leaving without hesitation was truly impressive. Hand Genius arrived in Elvens via the Hero’s Flower.

“Hello! I’m the Magic Engineer Hand Genius.”

“Nice to meet you.”

“LifeHunter nim! I’m a fan!”

LifeHunter grinned.

“Then let me see the catalog.”

“Alright.”

Hand Genius showed the catalog.

The catalog featured various types of fireworks designed for the festival.

Everything had been invented by Hand Genius and was officially registered for copyright in Evanth and Marogo. If someone wanted to use the recipe, they just needed to subscribe to ‘Inventor King Hand Genius’ on Arsilan Worlds.

It was a pilot project started by FS Games.

“Nice.”

“Even if you only purchase numbers 1, 3, and 5, it’s more than enough to raise the festival atmosphere. Altogether, that would be 12,000 gold....”

“All of them.”

“Pardon?”

LifeHunter closed the catalog.

“All five sets.”

“W-What? All five sets would be 300,000 gold....”

LifeHunter immediately paid 300,000 gold through the trade window.

“Gasp! T-Thank you so much!”

“Do you have the stock?”

“Yes! I just happen to have all of it ready! I’ll install them right away.”

He installed all the firework sets in the center of Elvens. Then he handed over an orb-shaped switch to LifeHunter.

“Have you cleared all the village Achievement Quests?”

“Hmm, I cleared them at dawn today.”

“Can I ask what the reward was?”

LifeHunter pointed to the center of the village with his finger. There, a golden fragment was floating.

“Do you know what that is?”

“A bracelet? Hmm..., it seems a little bigger than a bracelet..., anyway, it looks like a piece of an accessory?”

“Hmm.”

It looked like a fragment that had broken off from some kind of artistic piece. Since it was the reward from clearing such a difficult village Achievement Quest, it must be something amazing.

Hand Genius bowed to LifeHunter.

“Then, Great Hero LifeHunter nim! Please visit again!”

LifeHunter smiled gently, placed his hand on Hand Genius’s shoulder, and nodded. Hand Genius was excited at the thought of using the gold he earned today to create and register a new recipe.

Although he could use the Hero’s Flower to move, he wanted to walk for the first time in a while.

Hand Genius walked while admiring the beautiful scenery of Elvens and then sat down in a flower field. He took out a lunchbox from his inventory.

“Ah, right! I forgot to check the update notice.”

There had been another major update.

Hand Genius had been so busy researching that he hadn’t checked the update details for several days.

“Ooh! Mounts added! That’s crazy.”

And it was said that the Arsilan people released from their seals would start to appear.

While he was eating lunch, he felt an unknown gaze. Hand Genius slowly turned his head to the side.

“Huh?”

A fairy was sitting on a flower.

It was a small fairy with wings. Clearly different from the spirits that appeared occasionally. It had four pairs of wings, but two of them had been severely torn off.

“Want some?”

“Yeah.”

The fairy weakly wobbled in the air. Just as it was about to crash to the ground, he caught it.

Hand Genius tore off a piece of bread and gave it to the fairy. The fairy ate it ravenously, then seemed to choke and suffer. When he gave it water, it gulped it down.

“Tastes okay.”

“Y-Yeah.”

The Arsilan people released from their seal.

That phrase from the update notice came to mind.

“Want to try this too?”

“Sure.”

He was hoping for a boost in Affinity, but there was no reaction at all.

“What?”

"Ah, it's nothing."

The fairy was a bit aloof.

“W-What’s your name? I’m Hand Genius.”

“Name..., I forgot. More importantly, your name is weird.”

“Ah....”

The atmosphere became awkward. He had become accustomed to dealing with people while doing business in Arsilan, but there was no hero he had become deeply close with. The fairy looked at his awkward expression and then went into his front pocket.

“You’ll be my wagon.”

“Huh?”

From then on, Hand Genius and the fairy traveled together.

Hand Genius’s awkward expressions started to become more natural over time. The fairy remained haughty, but quickly got used to it.

Hand Genius sketched his next invention in his notebook.

“Ugh, it’s not working.”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Because it’s how I make a living.”

“Hmph.”

The fairy landed on top of the notebook. Hugging his pen with both arms, it drew a Magic Circle.

“Idiot. You need an advanced Magic Circle here.”

“O-Oh! You’re a genius?”

The fairy helped him with his invention.

Thanks to that, his subscribers increased!

"But you, your wings...."

“They were devoured by Erosion. Not even Sacred Techniques can regenerate them.”

The fairy spoke casually, as if it was already used to it.

Hand Genius had a lot on his mind. The fairy could barely fly, and she said she had arrived at Elvens swept in by the wind.

"I'll try to make them."

“You?”

Hand Genius set everything else aside and devoted himself to making wings. But even as his Magic Engineering skill increased, he couldn’t even grasp a sense of it.

“Give up. I’m fine. You’re my wagon, remember?”

“Then what about when I’m not around?”

“I’ll just wait.”

Hand Genius remembered the old days when he sat still, endlessly waiting for his mother. He looked at the fairy and returned to his research. As things didn’t go well, his face darkened.

“Hero-nim, you seem troubled.”

“Ah! Leon nim!”

Leon sat down next to Hand Genius.

Hand Genius shared his concerns with him. Leon looked at Hand Genius with an extremely surprised expression.

“It will be difficult.”

“But having hope is a good thing, right? I also once had vague hope, and somehow, it came true. So I’ve got to give it a try.”

“Truly..., you are admirable.”

Leon smiled more brightly than in any smile he had ever shown. It was a smile that felt as though his soul was smiling.

“I don’t know much about Magic Engineering..., but I have a book left behind by an Archmage.”

“Huh?”

Leon took a book from his chest. It was an old book.

At first, it looked like it was written in a strange language, but upon looking again, it was readable. The cover read: “Magic Engineering for Tiris”. Hand Genius received the book and opened it. Though the content was difficult, it was explained in an easy-to-understand way.

“With this...! Thank you!”

Leon bowed his head and withdrew.

Hand Genius researched Magic Engineering day and night and went out to gather materials. During that time, he even found a secret shop in Marogo.

“Excuse me....”

“It’s one thousand gold.”

“Yes!”

“You seem quite talented.”

Hand Genius looked at the elf before him and then examined the Archmage’s book. The portrait drawn inside and the elf’s face were identical.

“Are you perhaps Tiris...nim?”

“I am not Tiris.”

Swoosh!

The secret shop vanished.

The final material was at the edge of a cliff. The lighthouse herb, which only bloomed in high places.

“I’ll be back.”

Hand Genius put the fairy down and climbed the cliff. Each time he fell in the rough wind, he used magic to survive somehow.

“Gahk!”

“...Wouldn’t it be better to ask someone else?”

“I have to do it. If the material gets damaged during collection, it’d be a disaster.”

The fairy watched Hand Genius continuously fall.

She couldn’t understand why he was so desperate. Even during training in Reinguard, she had been indifferent. Maybe it would be better for her useless race to just disappear for Arsilan's sake.

That was what she had thought.

“Uwaaahhh!”

Thud!

Hand Genius crashed into the ground. He managed to barely survive by casting a Shield spell before hitting the ground.

“A-Are you okay?”

“I got it!”

Hand Genius raised his head. In his hand was the lighthouse herb. His face was covered in mud and a mess. The fairy burst out laughing at the sight.

"What..., that's...."

Tears welled up in the fairy’s eyes.

Right there, Hand Genius opened the book and began concentrating on making it. The fairy sat beside him and watched him seriously. When he added the final material, a shimmering pink cloth appeared.

Hand Genius very carefully brought the pink cloth to the fairy’s severed wings and cut it to the right shape. The cloth soaked into the cut ends like it was fusing with them.

“H-How is it?”

The fairy looked at her wings, now tinted with pink, and tried moving them. At first it was awkward, but as she adjusted, her wingbeats grew faster.

The fairy’s body floated into the sky. She slowly began circling around Hand Genius. Though slow, she no longer looked like she was struggling.

“Hahaha!”

Hand Genius clenched his fist and laughed heartily. From the fairy flying around him, a tiny drop of water fell.

The fairy stopped.

She floated in the air with her back turned in front of Hand Genius.

“Um..., it’s still clumsy, but I’ll keep improving my skills and make them properly.”

Hand Genius said that.

She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and turned toward Hand Genius.

“I’ve decided on a name.”

“Huh?”

“Wing Genius.”

Hand Genius blinked at the sound of that name.

“Hahaha.”

“Hehehe.”

Then they looked at each other and laughed.

“Hey, Wing Genius! You’re doing pretty well!”

“Of course! Hand Genius.”

The two stood there and laughed again for quite a while.

They started walking back toward the city. Leon, who was helping beginner heroes, came into view.

When Leon spotted Hand Genius, he approached him.

“You succeeded.”

"I still have a long way to go. I need to research more."

Hand Genius replied with a smile to Leon.

“I like these wings.”

Wing Genius said that and sat on Hand Genius’s shoulder. Then she looked at Leon.

[Wing Genius spreads the light of the fairies.]

[The Fairy race reveals themselves in Arsilan.]

Fairies with pink wings began to appear one by one.

Leon and Hand Genius stood still and watched the scene.

“Oh, ooh!?”

“So cute.”

“Gasp!”

The surrounding heroes were startled and started taking pictures.

“Ah! That’s right!”

Wing Genius looked at Hand Genius.

Whoosh! Ding! Ding-ri-ri-ri-ring!

A pink-colored aura surged from Wing Genius’s body. The affinity was rising rapidly.

“I totally forgot about this.”

“How could you forget something like that?”

When Hand Genius asked that, Wing Genius was startled and looked at Leon.

Leon only gave a soft chuckle.

Thus passed a peaceful afternoon in Arsilan.
