Chapter 140: Help Me! (2)
“Monsters?”
Lee Ga-hang widened her eyes and asked again.
“There aren’t any in the Dawn Continent? I’m talking about spellcasters who borrow their strength or directly summon monsters.”
“There are monsters… but...”
She had never heard of spellcasters who commanded monsters.
“There are. I heard that there are people inside the White Tiger Mountain Range who control monsters. If you speak to the White Tiger Mountain Manor, you should be able to find them.”
Upon hearing No Yuk’s words, who was listening beside them, Jang Woo-hyun set his objective.
There was no need for him to step up personally.
He made a request to Lee Ga-hang — to find them.
“Yes! Don’t worry!”
Shouting loudly, Lee Ga-hang immediately left the Black Tortoise Sect and ran toward the White Tiger Mountain Range, where the White Tiger Mountain Manor was located.
And one month later.
Lee Ga-hang appeared in front of Jang Woo-hyun, who was staying in the White Horn Tribe’s village, having captured an old man.
The old man, scorched and with his hair singed as if he’d been brought roughly, prostrated himself upon seeing Jang Woo-hyun.
“I-I greet the Great Being.”
“……”
Jang Woo-hyun frowned at the old man’s excessive behavior and gave Lee Ga-hang a questioning look.
“...It, it’s just some minor education… no, I merely told him a bit. Right?”
Lee Ga-hang awkwardly smiled as she nudged the prostrated old man with her foot.
“Y-yes. That is correct. So please speak comfortably, O Great Being.”
Watching the trembling old man, Kim Min-soo quietly approached from the side. He lowered his head close and whispered to Jang Woo-hyun.
“Junior, are you sure about this? She’s quite the fierce woman.”
Because Kim Min-soo’s Projection was quite weakened, Jang Woo-hyun refrained from swinging his sword this time.
However, he did grip the hilt. Seeing that, Kim Min-soo awkwardly smiled and backed off.
“Can you summon a monster? I mean from another world.”
“Yes, I cannot summon a high-tier monster, but I can call forth an average one.”
“Could you also identify this?”
Jang Woo-hyun took off his upper garment and revealed his left shoulder.
“This is…”
The old man examined Jang Woo-hyun’s shoulder for a moment, then pulled out a talisman.
“May I use a spell?”
Upon receiving permission, the old man recited an incantation and brought the talisman to the shoulder.
Suddenly, wind surged from the shoulder and tore the talisman apart.
The old man’s face stiffened upon witnessing the scene.
“…This is a Brand. I’ve only seen it in ancient texts, never thought I’d witness it in reality. Are you planning to summon the one connected to this Brand?”
“Yes, just summon that one.”
“Originally, I wouldn’t be able to summon such a being. But the power within the Brand is substantial, so although it will take some time, it should be possible. Though, how strange. With such condensed power, I should’ve recognized it immediately.”
The old man tilted his head in confusion and continued.
“Summoning is possible… but isn’t it dangerous? Having this Brand means…”
He held back from uttering the word ‘prey.’
“It’s fine. I can handle it, so just perform the summoning.”
“Understood.”
At Jang Woo-hyun’s firm declaration, the old man began preparing to summon the monster. Though he feared summoning something beyond the norm, being dragged here by Lee Ga-hang left him with no option to refuse.
The preparations took two full days.
The old man placed Jang Woo-hyun in the center of a spell formation drawn on the ground, laying out talismans around him.
“Junior, is this really alright?”
Kim Min-soo was uneasy, not knowing exactly what was going to be summoned. He couldn’t grasp how summoning a monster would help ascend to the Central Heavens either.
“Don’t worry. It’ll definitely help.”
If it was to help, then it had to be a monster of considerable power, yet Kim Min-soo couldn’t even guess what kind of existence would appear, furrowing his brows.
“Then, I shall begin.”
Setting aside his concerns, the spellcaster announced the beginning and chanted the incantation.
Talismans were engulfed in blue flames and flew into the air, and light burst from the spell formation drawn on the ground.
Simultaneously, blue light gradually emanated from Jang Woo-hyun’s shoulder, and a strong wind surged.
The wind was so strong it became difficult to keep one’s eyes open. Tree branches around them snapped, unable to endure the force.
“…Descend upon this place!”
As the spellcaster shouted the final words of the long incantation, a massive whirlwind formed where Jang Woo-hyun stood.
The whirlwind grew as if to consume everything around it, then abruptly vanished with a loud pop.
At the spot where the whirlwind disappeared—
A giant monkey stood, donned in a robe of white and blue hues.
The monkey, far larger than a human, looked around.
“By the heavens…”
At the appearance of a monster with strength rivaling her own, Lee Ga-hang tensed. She had never seen a monster of such power before.
She even thought that if spellcasters had the power to summon monsters like that, they should all be eliminated immediately. That monster was powerful enough to overturn the balance of the Murim.
“Wha…”
More shocked than Lee Ga-hang was Kim Min-soo.
He knew the being before his eyes.
One of the Seven Great Saints. A Great Monster of the Demonic Spirit Realm. Windstorm Great Saint, Miho Wang.
A mad monster who would never associate with humans. Yet Jang Woo-hyun had summoned it, saying it would help him.
While the others remained tense and astonished, the Windstorm Great Saint who had descended upon the Dawn Continent looked at Jang Woo-hyun.
Laughter spilled from his mouth.
“Hehehehe.”
“You’re here.”
Jang Woo-hyun greeted him as if meeting a friend. The Great Monster, summoned by a human, burst into laughter.
“Wahahaha! You crazy human, what on earth is this about?”
“Ha, did I seem that much of a pushover?”
The Windstorm Great Saint’s face twisted as he listened to the story.
He came expecting something interesting, only to be asked to help with an Ascension?
It was absurd. They’d been entangled a few times, but to make such a request of him? What lunacy.
The Windstorm Great Saint believed Jang Woo-hyun looked down on him. There was no other way to explain it.
Naturally, the Windstorm Great Saint had no intention of going along with this.
His aura shifted instantly. Blade-like winds radiated from him, slashing out in all directions.
Sensing the tension, Lee Ga-hang also gathered her strength.
Fwoosh—
Flames spread around her like wings. Kim Min-soo also quietly stepped back, preparing for any possibility.
But Jang Woo-hyun remained calm. He neither reacted nor showed any signs of preparing to fight—he simply stood still.
Jang Woo-hyun and the Windstorm Great Saint did not share a deep friendship. They were of different races, and truthfully, it would be more accurate to call them enemies.
That was why Jang Woo-hyun had anticipated the Windstorm Great Saint would react this way. And naturally, he had prepared countermeasures for it.
Though they had only met twice, Jang Woo-hyun had already figured out what kind of personality the Windstorm Great Saint possessed.
Even when his body had been shattered, he had branded Jang Woo-hyun for fun and cut his own body to pieces to fight at a similar level in the Central Heavens.
To bait the Windstorm Great Saint, Jang Woo-hyun tossed out a lure.
“Heavenly Venerable of the Silver Radiance and Universal Transformation of the Three Pure Ones.”
“What?”
“Ugh!”
He had thrown the bait to the Windstorm Great Saint, but it was Lee Ga-hang who got hit by it. She suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed.
“That guy can’t use his power directly, but someone in the Lower Realm shouldn’t carelessly hear that name. She just fainted, so don’t mind it and keep talking.”
Kim Min-soo casually laid Lee Ga-hang down to the side, as if it wasn’t a big deal. Watching that, Jang Woo-hyun continued explaining.
“It’s the name of the one targeting me. A True Immortal from above.”
“True Immortal? That’s a name?”
“Yeah. He attacked me, and I ended up falling here.”
Jang Woo-hyun gestured downward with his hand.
As soon as the name "True Immortal" was mentioned, the violent aura that had filled the surroundings suddenly dissipated.
True Immortal, True Immortal. Repeating the name, the Windstorm Great Saint crossed his arms and pondered something.
“Never heard of that name.”
“Do you even know any names?”
“Well, I can’t tell you, but I do know a few guys. But the one you just mentioned—I’ve never heard of him.”
With a slight smirk, the Windstorm Great Saint asked.
“So, what are you going to do once you return to the Central Heavens?”
“Search.”
“For what?”
“Anything related to that guy. Would you sit still after being hit?”
At Jang Woo-hyun’s answer, the Windstorm Great Saint grinned from ear to ear.
It was a bizarre sight, but this was his true nature. He was a being known as a Great Monster among all others.
“Wahahahahahaha! Yeah! I got hit, so of course I can’t sit still! Hahahaha!”
The Windstorm Great Saint clutched his stomach and laughed heartily for a while.
‘True Immortal, huh.’
Although the Demonic Spirit Realm was classified as part of the Central Heavens Realm, it was a rather unique place. Even in the Upper Realm, beings of such power that they could be called gods existed in the Demonic Spirit Realm, which was why those in the Upper Realm avoided getting involved with it.
Conversely, Great Monsters of the Demonic Spirit Realm were not supposed to get involved with beings from the Upper Realm. It was a matter on an entirely different scale than being scolded by one’s older sister.
Violating agreements with other realms like the Central Heavens Murim could be resolved by a good scolding. You could just reflect in a cave or be crushed under a mountain.
But if it involved beings from the Upper Realm like True Immortals or Martial Gods, it was a different story.
This was a proper pact.
One established directly by Daehyeong, the First of the Seven Great Saints.
Being scolded by his older sister was one thing, but this could get him beaten to death. He might even have to fight Daehyeong.
‘But what do I care?’
The Windstorm Great Saint burst into laughter again.
A monster crazy about fighting. A troublemaker rivaling even the youngest of the Seven Great Saints.
No, in matters of battle, he was even crazier than the youngest. With such a fun situation, how could he possibly sit it out?
And fighting Daehyeong seriously? That would be good in its own way.
Besides, technically, he wouldn’t be the one taking the lead. He wouldn’t be attacking first, either.
‘I’ll just tag along.’
He simply needed to stay beside Jang Woo-hyun and get swept up in things.
‘Too bad it won’t be my main body.’
His main body couldn’t leave the Demonic Spirit Realm.
Still, thinking ‘Where else can you enjoy this kind of fun even with a Projection?’ the Windstorm Great Saint finished organizing his thoughts.
“Alright, what do you need me to help with?”
Grinning ear to ear, the Windstorm Great Saint agreed to assist Jang Woo-hyun.
Kim Min-soo, Jang Woo-hyun, and the Windstorm Great Saint headed toward the mountain where the Spell Formation was prepared.
“By the way, what are you?”
“What?”
The Windstorm Great Saint stretched his neck and stared at Jang Woo-hyun’s chest.
“You’re different from before. Something’s strange.”
“I learned a different martial art here. What’s strange about it?”
“Hmm, how should I put this… Do you know what a Qi Spirit is?”
“What’s that?”
“It’s not like me. Hmm. It’s like… beings formed from the energy of nature are called that.”
“Elementals. Just think of them as Elementals. Four Great Elementals, Element Spirits, that sort of thing.”
In the middle of the conversation, Kim Min-soo interjected.
“Really? I sort of get it. Why do you bring that up?”
“You seem like one of them.”
“What are you talking about? Explain it clearly.”
“You’re just kind of strange. You don’t seem human. The energy in your chest, how should I say it? It’s just weird.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Ah, I don’t know. Anyway, it’s like that. When we get to the Central Heavens, catch a spellcaster and summon me again. I’ll explain it then.”
“You? Why should I summon you?”
Jang Woo-hyun asked at the sudden suggestion.
“That’s my condition for helping you. Find someone skilled and summon me properly. Otherwise, I’ll just leave.”
“Fine. I’ll summon you, so help me properly.”
“Don’t worry about that.”
As they talked like close friends, Kim Min-soo watched with curiosity and approached Jang Woo-hyun.
“Junior.”
“Yes.”
“What exactly is your relationship with the Windstorm Great Saint?”
“With the monkey? Just… someone I’ve seen a few times. Nothing special.”
Kim Min-soo couldn’t continue speaking out of sheer disbelief.
How could someone be this familiar after only meeting a few times?
And that crazy monkey monster was casually helping Jang Woo-hyun.
“What do you mean nothing special? We’re on the same side.”
“Same side? Why would you and I be on the same side?”
“Huh? What’s with you? You said we’re on the same side and fought together.”
As the Windstorm Great Saint spoke with wide eyes and a baffled expression, Jang Woo-hyun’s face tensed slightly.
“That was just how things were at the time. You and I are not on the same side. And this thing on my shoulder—you said it was a mark for prey.”
“Well, that’s true… but not exactly. It’s also like some kind of communication device to check on each other’s well-being.”
A Great Monster and a human with mysterious talents.
Watching the two bicker, Kim Min-soo shook his head.
‘I don’t get it.’
Deciding not to worry about them, Kim Min-soo focused only on what he needed to do.
