Chapter 999 - 81: Bearing Witness with Death
"Watch out for the car ahead!" Zhou Ju’an reminded nervously.
"What? Afraid to die?" Li Mengru stepped on the gas, accelerating the car even faster, "I’ll show you, sometimes dying is the easiest thing!"
She laughed loudly as she drove even faster.
Zhou Ju’an and Li Siru both gripped their seatbelts tightly, closing their eyes involuntarily.
Li Mengru suddenly let go of the steering wheel, picked up her phone, and sent a text message: "Lu Beiyao, come save me! I originally wanted to confront you with Sisi, but she not only refused, she also wants..."
"The car is going to fall off the bridge, Li Mengru are you looking for death!" Zhou Ju’an shouted loudly as the car was completely out of control. He glanced at Li Siru and quickly leaned over to unfasten her seatbelt, then pushed open the car door and shoved her out.
The car violently broke through the bridge’s guardrail, plunging into the river below and turning into a mass of flames.
Due to inertia, Li Siru rolled many times on the ground before hitting the edge of the bridge, losing consciousness.
Lu Beiyao kept himself busy all the way until midnight, finally noticing the text message on his phone. He hesitated for a moment but decided to dial back.
The phone was off, and Lu Beiyao was consumed with panic.
As he grabbed his jacket and headed out, the Lu Family’s call came through.
"Beiyao, something has happened!"
Lu Beiyao sat silently at the morgue entrance for a long time, Zhou Mingyu holding onto Li Minghui and crying for quite a while. The police officers made inquiries multiple times, each ending without resolution.
Only Mr. Li asked: "Still no sign of Ju An’s body?"
"The river has a current, the car shattered from the explosion, only the eldest daughter was trapped inside, Mr. Zhou was likely washed away!" whispered a policeman, sighing involuntarily.
Mr. Li seemed to age ten years in an instant, becoming a broken old man.
"How could this happen? Why did they drive out and go to a place like that in the middle of the night?" Zhou Mingyu cried out desperately.
The police replied, "That bridge often has accidents because there’s no surveillance, the cause is unknown. We’ve emphasized repeatedly, don’t take that road at night."
Was it intentional?
Lu Beiyao swallowed his breath and asked quietly, "Has Li Siru regained consciousness?"
Who cares about the Li Family’s second daughter now?
But upon hearing this, Mr. Li was immediately invigorated, having lost two meticulously trained successors. Even if the useless second granddaughter still remained, as long as she married into the Lu Family, gaining their support for his inevitable departure wouldn’t be bad?
"Yes, has Sisi awakened? Go check on Sisi!" He staggered towards the hospital room, with the nearby butler quickly supporting him.
Zhou Mingyu continued to weep, and Li Minghui had no choice but to accompany her.
Lu Beiyao stood silently for a long time before heading to the morgue. The person lying there was burned beyond recognition by the flames, but the faint resemblance was still there.
If only he had seen the message earlier, could he have saved her?
Lu Beiyao clenched his fists, standing there, exuding an icy aura.
"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have doubted you!"
Li Siru had only suffered minor injuries and a brief concussion, regaining consciousness shortly after. Upon opening her eyes, she saw everyone gathered around the hospital bed, including the police!
She suddenly sat up straight!
The Li Family remained silent, seemingly not all that pleased about her survival. Awkwardly, a policeman glanced at everyone before stepping forward to ask, "It’s good that the second daughter has awakened. Can you tell us what exactly happened when you drove to the old bridge?"
