The Reborn Demon King Girl

Chapter 316 - 3 Travel_2

Chapter 316 - 3 Travel_2

Gela buried her head between her knees, "But I didn’t get an answer, you didn’t give me an answer, and I couldn’t come up with one either."

"During our journey, what have we seen?"

Modoh suddenly asked.

All sorts of things we’ve encountered, and... regions engulfed by war.

"Do you think there’s any difference between this world and the one under my rule?"

No.

In fact, Gela had realized this issue quite early on. She resisted because of the Demon Race’s brutality and their rule, but there really wasn’t any difference—perhaps, in some sense, the Demon King’s rule was even better because she discovered that the current intensity of war is fiercer than in the past, fiercer than when all the major races united to crusade against the Demon Race!

Whether it be humans, elves, or dwarves—they all absorbed the legacy of the Demon Race. After decades of development, their races grew significantly, and then those newly born lives were thrown into the battlefield like firewood. People’s hopes, expectations, and warmth were all decimated in the war.

So, four months ago, they bypassed the routes where wars were occurring and instead plunged into an ancient forest, traveling within its depths.

Yet, Gela’s heart still couldn’t find peace.

The events happening now are destroying the meaning of the Hero.

What is her existence for? What has she done in the past?

All of it is being negated. For Gela, this is truly difficult to accept.

"Do you understand now why I told you that I too have no solution? Because since my birth, such events have never ceased. Since the World Tree spawned the first batch of life, three thousand races have been in constant conflict, selection happening again and again... perhaps this is the very meaning of life. At the very least, in this era, you were born. You killed me, a being that emerged with the world, resembling a deity. Were it not for the entombment of numerous races, for the unending battles, perhaps you wouldn’t have reached this realm. Life has begun to touch the fundamentals of the world."

Gela lifted her head, confusion written in her eyes. She didn’t quite understand what Modoh meant.

"What I mean is—if the world’s lives are considered children nurtured by the world, then now, this child has finally grown, finally begun to have an equal standing with the world, finally able to... give back to this world."

Modoh thought for a moment and offered an analogy, "It’s like you raised a hundred dogs since childhood, letting them fight among themselves, eventually obtaining the strongest one to help you hunt. In the endless cycles of civilization, a life like yours appearing might mean that I and the Goddess, such ancient beings—should be cleared away."

"I won’t do that."

"It would be best if you don’t." Modoh said candidly, "I don’t want to die, you better not kill me."

This remark seemed to lift Gela’s spirits a bit, making her chuckle. Then she looked to the sky, "Modoh, I’ve been having a dream lately."

"What?"

"I dreamt I was a boy, and after killing you, you reincarnated into a black-haired girl, and then I fell in love with you."

"Are you crazy?" Modoh was taken aback, staring at Gela, "Aren’t you becoming desperate as you get older? Just like the old ladies in our town, who don’t hold back on dirty jokes, making many men run away after hearing."

Gela blushed slightly, "I’m not!"

"Then why are you having such dreams?"

"Aren’t you supposed to say, ’Beings of our rank don’t dream easily, but if we do, it must be a sign’?"

"See, you already know this yourself, do you still need me to say it?"

Gela shot Modoh a glance, then fixed her gaze on him, "Then tell me, what is this dream indicating?"

"How should I know?"

Modoh had no intention of answering this question.

"Is there an answer where I fall for you?"

Modoh spread his hands, "Let me think, in your dream, do I like you?"

"You seem to keep rejecting me."

"So there you go, even if you say you like me, I would reject you. Besides, do you have a reason to like me? How did you like me in your dream?"

"In the dream, I was betrayed by Charlette and the others, and then you comforted me."

Modoh chuckled, "In reality, did they betray you?"

The young woman hesitated, "I think, maybe they did."

"Look at you, so cold-hearted, Hero Gela. They haven’t done anything against you. They’re fighting for their ideals. If there really were one or two shameless individuals, you would have been exposed by now. The fact that no one forced a statement out of you already proves they’re being good to you, yet you still feel betrayed by them? Perhaps, in others’ eyes, it’s you who betrayed and abandoned them."

Modoh spoke with considerable sarcasm.

This rendered Gela unable to refute, because she knew Modoh was right.

Conflicts in beliefs with others, it’s happened more than once or twice. Over the past decades, there have been countless debates, numerous conflicts... yet they never erupted. For them, perhaps they were just tolerating the "foolish idealist" in her.

If one must say, it’s that...

They have all grown up.

Matured into wielders of power, responsible for those under them. No longer able to speak naive ideals and believe they would be realized... They weigh the pros and cons in their choices, shouldering the weight of their organizations.

In comparison, she seemingly... can’t bear the weight of "world peace."

"You’re really not gentle with me at all, Modoh."

"Is there any necessity to be gentle with someone who killed oneself?"

"In my dream, you’re the person who gently offers me a lap pillow and promises, ’I’ll always be by your side.’ It’s really quite adorable."

Modoh pondered for a moment, then retrieved something from his treasure trove, "This is called Nightmare Fantasy. With this, you can project your dreams and visit the me in your dream. You can enjoy it."

He handed this item to Gela very earnestly.

And then it shattered.

The Nightmare Fantasy broke in that instant.

"What are you doing! This was my masterpiece!" Modoh lamented as he looked at the broken Nightmare Fantasy. His restored power was insufficient to stop this girl, "It’s a hassle to recreate a new one. I have to remake the Nightmare Race, then construct a collective dream through them, and extract this portion of the dream... sigh! You’ve destroyed a treasure in the world!"

Gela stared at Modoh, "Why do you keep avoiding my questions?"

"What are you talking about? What did I avoid?"

"I’m talking about me possibly liking you."

"Didn’t I already answer this question? I reject your feelings. Do I need to emphasize it again? Or do you think I’m joking?"

"Give me a reason."

Modoh looked at Gela as if she were mad, "I don’t understand human emotions. What’s the point of you telling me this?"
