Chapter 236 - 176: The Jiao of the Canyon Marsh, the Fourth Avatar, Taiping Daoist

Among their companions was Cao Zongxi, the Crown Prince of Great Sui. He saw the copper bell in the Daoist’s hand and found it quite interesting. "How far away can that Magical Treasure detect demons?"

The Daoist holding the bell chuckled and explained, "This is a treasure bestowed by a senior from the Taoist Sect. Its grade as a Magical Treasure isn’t particularly high, but whenever Demon Qi draws near, the bell rings on its own. It emits a clear tone that protects one from bewitchment and serves as a warning. For cultivators, it also helps focus the mind and calm the spirit."

Lu Yunqing, who stood at the head of the group like a crane among chickens, added, "Large ones are called bells, small ones chimes. If it were an Immortal Artifact, it would primarily be used to ward off evil and protect one’s home. Common folk like to hang talismanic wind chimes under their eaves, usually acquired from temples or Daoist monasteries. They are blessed by those with powerful Mana to block Evil Qi and preserve good fortune."

"Prince Chongwen knows so much about even the most common of matters. I’m impressed," Cao Zongxi said with a complimentary smile.

This, however, caused the other Princes and Princesses from the various dynasties to secretly roll their eyes.

This Crown Prince of Great Sui wasn’t just on excellent terms with Great Yan; he spoke and acted cordially with the Crown Princes of all the other nations. No matter who it was, he got along splendidly with them, making him seem like a complete social butterfly.

’Where was his dignity as a Crown Prince?’

RING RING RING!

Suddenly, the copper bell in the Daoist’s hand began to shake violently, and the expressions of everyone present changed.

A Prince from the Song Dynasty turned to look up at the top of the gorge, and his blood ran cold.

A pitch-black head, as large as a water cistern, slowly rose from behind the mountain ridge, finally coming into full view of the group on the stony summit.

It had a pair of silver eyes and a scarlet tongue as long as a log, which flicked in and out with a sharp hissing sound.

The shockingly massive beast slithered halfway onto the stone platform. Its head and back were covered in large, symmetrical scales, and its entire body was as black as ink, shimmering under the light of the setting sun.

Most striking of all was the pair of enormous, fleshy wings on its back.

"What a massive Flying Python!"

"I fear it’s no Flying Python. It’s the Great Marsh Flood Dragon!"

The Daoist from the Daoist Academy formed the sign for the Thunder Character with his fingers and burned a Yellow Talisman at his waist. He then performed a ritual step, exhaled sharply, and finally, pressing two fingers together, pointed at an Earth Talisman on the ground and softly chanted, "By the edict of the Thunder Ministries, I command!"

BOOM!

A massive thunderbolt materialized in the sky and struck the Flood Dragon.

ROAR!

The Flying Winged Flood Dragon roared at the sky, spewing a pillar of purple flame that clashed violently with the lightning. Amidst a CRACKLE and POP, the beast remained completely unharmed.

"Everyone, stand back! I’ll handle this!"

Chu Longxiang, the Eldest Prince of Great Wu, wore a calm expression. Clad in Armor, he charged forward, his steps swift and his fists radiating a fierce power.

He leaped into the air, and a ten-meter-tall Fist Gang solidified around his punch.

The punch struck the beast’s head with a deafening CRASH.

The violent impact sent the Flying Winged Flood Dragon’s head reeling. Its massive, upright torso staggered backward, parts of it crashing against the ground.

A Prince from the Song Dynasty was completely dumbfounded. Having lived a pampered and sheltered life, he had never witnessed such a ferocious beast and was frozen to the spot.

Fortunately, Lu Mingyuan was quick to react, pulling him aside just in time to dodge the attack.

Immediately after, the Flying Winged Flood Dragon lunged forward, sending Chu Longxiang flying and letting out a series of piercing shrieks.

"I am Song Yan You! Thank you, Prince Huai’an, for saving my life!"

Once out of danger, the Prince of the Song Clan quickly offered his thanks.

Lu Mingyuan nodded, his gaze returning to the Great Flood Dragon and the surrounding dynastic prodigies, all of whom were on high alert.

’According to the divination, I’m supposed to create a clone to resolve this crisis.’

’My Blood Shadow Legion has grown stronger, so I can now create a fourth Ninth Realm clone. I just need to decide on an identity for it.’

He glanced at the brown-robed Daoist holding the copper bell, and an idea sparked.

’I’ve got it!’

「At that very moment.」

Chu Longxiang, whose arm was numb from being thrown, gritted his teeth. He wrenched his feet, which had sunk half a foot into the ground, free from the gravelly platform. Instead of retreating, he advanced, charging forward and leaving deep, sunken footprints in the stone summit with every heavy step.

After that head-on collision, Chu Longxiang was confident he still had the power to fight!

The Flying Winged Flood Dragon charged head-on once more. The qi in Chu Longxiang’s body surged like a river bursting its dam. His Blood Qi flared magnificently, and the muscles in his arm bulged, nearly tearing his sleeve. With a furious roar, he viciously smashed his fist right into the center of the foul beast’s head.

The powerful, all-out strike exploded with the resonant boom of a hammer striking a great bell.

The cistern-sized head was smashed to the stone platform, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Something swept in from the side, moving far faster than the Flood Dragon’s previous two headbutts. It instantly slammed into Chu Longxiang, sending him flying dozens of yards.

Though the blow wasn’t fatal, Chu Longxiang was seriously wounded, his skin split and his flesh torn. His face was covered in blood. He rolled across the ground several times, barely managing to halt his momentum. He took a sharp breath, swallowed the blood rising in his throat, and, ignoring the damage to his organs, prepared to charge forward once more and fight the foul beast to the death.

It turned out the Flying Winged Flood Dragon had been feigning weakness with its first two attacks, all to set up for this lightning-fast tail sweep.

Prince Chu Longxiang of Great Wu stared wide-eyed, his heart seizing with terror, subconsciously believing his end had come.

Just at that critical moment, a powerful, resonant voice rang out:

"The Taiping Taoist, Zhang Jiao, is here! Cease your rampage, you foul beast!"
