Chapter 1165: The Mermaids Joined
Right now, we’re in my Monsters Kingdom. I brought all the mermaids here. Then I asked them again about everything they told me but this time, in the presence of the centaurs.
Anyway, it seems like we will have another tribe of monster residing in my kingdom. But that’s not the most important one. It’s the island they were on. The island that can be swayed by the waves. It seems like that island is more of a ship than an island. I need to check it.
Because the size of that island is just a bit bigger than the average floating island we have, I could still create a portal large enough to bring that island here. And right now, it’s in the middle of the artificial lake that somehow got bigger as my kingdom grew.
I’m going to show this island to Albert and the others. Maybe Kayla or Celestine can inspect the island to see if it’s really an island or a ship. Because there’s that thing under the island that is like a window that lets us see the water, I think that it’s a ship. Then there’s also some metal plate in the island covered by soil. I guess it was a ship or something at first.
Anyway, the mermaids are here. And Victoria is disappointed because they don’t have fish tail and don’t have great singing voice as the mermaids of the legend in her world said. And let’s ignore her.
With the centaurs around, I understand that they didn’t say any lie about wanting protection and willing to fight. Though of course I told those who want to fight can fight and those who don’t want to fight have to do something to contribute in my kingdom.
Well, with all the other battle-freak monsters in the kingdom, they might change. Let’s hope that change will be positive.
So, the mermaids fight using trident. It’s not that different than a spear. It just has three sharp blades instead of just one.
Then how they fight, they use their poison. Sometimes, they would use it on the trident and let the poison get into their enemy’s body or they can just shoot it at them. Applying the poison directly to the skin will not be as effective since it won’t make people hallucinate or die in the end. But it would be really itchy when it applied on the skin.
Just in case, I tried one of them to apply their poison into my skin. And it was really itchy!
The good news is that if it’s applied like that, we can simply wash it off with water. But for consuming the poison or if you’re slashed by the trident covered by poison, you have to take the antidote that the mermaids themselves can make.
So they can create poison and antidote. When they use their magic, it’s not like any normal magic where something magically appeared. It’s magic that let them take out poison or antidote from their body and shoot them or apply them on anything. But they were not hurt at all when using that magic.
Though seeing with my Divine Vision, rather than magic, it’s more like their race’s physical trait. They can make the blood inside their body to get out from their skin without hurting them at all. I can see everything. But I won’t tell them because I don’t know if they can use magic for real or not.
"So, how long will it take for someone to get poisoned to hallucinate and die?" I asked.
"We can adjust it. We don’t know the exact time but we can make the poison react instantly or have delayed reaction. But the effect is the same. We can’t change it no matter what. It will still be itchy if it touches your skin, or will make you hallucinate and die when you consume the poison or slashed by a poisoned weapon," the mermaid leader said.
"Right, I forgot. What’s your name? And I have terrible memory of remembering names so you should really think of an easy name for me to remember whatever your name is," I said after I asked for his name.
Since he’s the leader, it should be him I asked for his name. As for the rest, I don’t really care as long as they will follow me.
"My name is Ray," he said.
"Change it. That’s my horse’s name," I said.
"...My name is... I’ll use my childhood nickname, Swift. It’s because I’m the best swimmer," the mermaid said.
"Alright, I think that’s easy to remember. Welcome to my kingdom, Swift. As for your welcome party, we will start with a battle. Pick one of the strongest from your race and I will arrange a fight with my strongest angel, Graham. Don’t worry, I won’t allow anyone die in a friendly match. So, please don’t use dangerous poison. Graham can use healing magic but we don’t know yet if it can cure your poison or not. We will test how potent your poison later," I said.
"...Huh?" Swift acted confused after I told him that there will be battle.
"Ah, don’t worry about it. It’s just a friendly battle to let the monsters here see how strong the newcomers are by testing the strongest newcomer. There is no hierarchy in this kingdom other than me as the King and some other people. But the monsters here decided to figure it out by their strength. Although they won’t discriminate against newcomer, I think it’s best to do it this way because you will also learn the culture and tradition of my kingdom," I said.
"...I understand. I’m the strongest one so I will fight. But will the fight be outside of water?" Swift asked.
"For now, yeah. I have watched how some of you fought Crabbe underwater before. You were good, but Crabbe was stronger. And it seems like you can’t use your poison freely underwater, right?" I asked.
I doubt they can shoot their poison well underwater. Maybe the poison will be diluted in the water and it won’t be as effective anymore. But when they fought Crabbe, none of them used poison.
"I understand. I will fight against the strongest angel then," Swift said.
"Good. I don’t expect you to win since several of you lost against Crabbe alone. But you should still show your best to gain everyone’s attention. The more powerful you are, the more likely they will act friendly to you. And don’t worry about losing since everyone here knows that Graham is one of the strongest monsters here," I said.
Then the fight started. It’s obviously in the Arena. And everyone come to watch. Everyone in my kingdom. I didn’t brought Albert and the others here. I didn’t bother to do that.
The mermaids are all sitting in one area while the others already filled the seat completely. Some who can fly decided to watch from above. I think instead of building houses, increasing the size of the Arena here is more important.
They are monsters. They can live anywhere so a house is not necessary. But they like fighting. So the Arena is more important.
In the middle, Graham and Swift are ready to fight. Graham has the spear that the previous Spider Knight he defeated used. As for Swift, he has a trident. From the look of it, that trident is stronger than Graham’s original spear. Now let’s see how good he is in fighting.
Two people fighting using pole technique. One is a spear and another is trident. They are good. Though Graham is holding back so everyone can see how a mermaid’s fighting technique while Swift seems like he’s trying his best.
Swift used poison but Graham dodged it. Though when the poison touched Graham’s skin, Graham used healing magic right away. If it’s on the skin, it seems like healing magic is useful. We’ll try out more later.
Compared to the angels when they came here, Swift’s fighting skill is better. Seems like mermaids can fight better than the angels. And can fight even better underwater.
But the end result was obvious. Swift lost. Though the monsters here accepted the mermaids as one of them after seeing how well Swift can fight.
Just like that and we got another race of monsters here. They will mostly be like the Crab People. Staying in the lake while sometime leaving.
Since they are both water monsters, Crabbe and Swift got along really well. It’s good that they are close.
Now, it’s time to tell Albert and the others about the new race I recruited and also the ship island I got. Sunglasses should be able to find a way to use the ship island since it can go around in the ocean without being stuck in one place.
Sunglasses once thought that maybe the floating island could float in the water. But that’s not the case at all as when we tried to do it, we lost an entire floating island as it sunk into the ocean. But now, we have one that won’t sink. He will surely be happy.
