Chapter 1158: There’s a Promotion Exam?

What now? Well, now that I have kidnapped the Fake Emperor’s wife and son, I don’t have anything else to do in the capital. So I return to Cassau after I brought all my monsters back to Monsters Kingdom.

Sigh... after I finished with gaining fame in Consenza, I need to go to other countries. Then I will do the same thing. Taking care of unfinished quests and gain more fame. Then I might end up gaining the nobles’ attention again and mess with them. They are so much pain in the ass.

But I heard from Albert that in the future, he will make the soldiers he has now, those who have reached master level, to be nobles under him. Then all the current nobles, especially those who are not competent enough, will be removed from their statuses.

I think that’s good. Those soldiers have higher loyalty than those nobles. And since they are master level mages, they must be the people I brought to the Spirit Mountain. Which means that they felt gratitude toward me and it’s unlikely for them to cause me troubles.

That’s what Albert’s plan for the future. Maybe he already changed some nobles in Tatrama by the soldiers under him. But that’s not all. Because he needs those soldiers to fight the cult first. He only changed those who are not good at all.

I don’t know about other countries, but that’s what Albert’s doing with the nobles in Tatrama. Though it seems like he hasn’t finished it since some nobles still caused me some troubles. But I hope it will be better in the future.

It’s the day after all those troubles because of the Fake Emperor. Well, it’s more like a trouble because of the Stampede that I might have caused. Though if it’s not for the Stampede, I will never know that there’s a city in the desert that is most likely already be taken by the cult.

Though it seems like those people have left the cult. They are no longer in contact with the cult and just live however they want. At least that’s what Claudia told me this morning.

Well, with a centaur over there, I think that’s the truth. Which means that we gained some usable people then. And Lynn no longer had to worry about finding her successor in the future.

By the way, Lynn is also planning to reach master level in the future. She said that it would be once the cult is gone. So it means that she can continue sitting on the throne for hundreds of years.

"Mister Roy, I have reported about you to the headquarter of the guild. And they have decided to give you a test for you to be promoted into S-rank hunter," the guild master of the city near the desert said.

Seriously? There’s a test?

When I asked the others in Cassau how they became S-rank, they never told me that they had to take a test.

"Victoria, you’re also an S-rank, right? You took a lot of quest. How come you didn’t take the test?" I asked Victoria.

"Huh? Excuse me, Mister Roy. My name is not Victoria," the guild master said.

"I’m not talking to you."

Then Victoria left my side and transformed into her human form. She also grabbed her own hunter card she put inside my pocket and put it on the table in the guild master’s office.

"That’s right. I never took the promotion test. I just completed quests from the guild as usual then all of a sudden I’m an S-rank hunter like Angela and the others. I think the vampires should all be S-rank hunters by now," Victoria said.

What is this? The hunter guild is looking down on me?

"Why do I have to take the promotion test? There’s no such thing for members of my clan. And this is my familiar who became S-rank. Just one of them. I have another one. There are two other familiars but they’re not hunters. So I don’t need to take the test since my familiar is S-rank, right?" I asked the guild master of this city.

"Umm... I don’t know. I’m just relaying what the headquarter told me. Here’s the letter they sent to me," the guild master offered me a letter from the headquarter.

Hmm... I read this. And it says that I really need to go to the headquarter to take the test.

Victoria is also reading the letter and she’s confused. Maybe it’s because I’m a clan leader of powerful S-rank hunters.

I did get cooperation with several hunter guilds in several cities. But it’s never a cooperation with the headquarter.

If I’m thinking it carefully, it’s obvious what they’re after. They have learned that the forces against the cult are too strong. A lot of master level mages. But the hunter guild don’t have many master level mages. Most of them are in my clan after all.

Now they learned that the leader of such clan is going to be promoted, they want to use every means possible so they can use me. If that’s their plan, I have to make sure that they will never think of it in the future.

And so, I used portal to return to Cassau first and ask everyone’s opinion. Everyone in my clan first.

"I think it’s possible they are going to try to manipulate you. They like to have authority comparable to a kingdom so when we have a force that actively participated with the kingdom to fight the cult and we are even stronger than the others, they felt jealousy instead. Though I’m not sure yet. But this is just too weird that they asked you to come there in three days from Consenza," Kayla said.

"They either know that I can use portal already or they won’t be there at all. Then I asked for the Kings’ opinion.

"Even if you have to take the test?" Albert asked.
