Chapter 1154: The Cities in the Desert

I found one of the cities in the desert. And as the Fake Emperor said, this city seems to have been destroyed by the Stampede. Though there’s no more monster there.

The weird thing is that there are several master level mages in the city. I doubt that they are too weak against the monsters. But the fact that they are enjoying themselves in the buildings that weren’t destroyed meant that they never care about other people at all.

I suspect that they are from the cult. Even if they aren’t, I don’t like them.

Among all the surviving building, the church is one of them and is also used as a shelter for people who had their homes destroyed. They must be purposely protecting the church from getting destroyed so they can gather more believers.

I can see people praying in that church. But even then, there are not many members of the cult here it seems.

It’s more like they were from the cult, but they never really cared about the cult’s goal to destroy the world. Using the power that they gained, they simply live freely without obeying the cult’s order. Because I don’t think that taking over the city here is beneficial for them at all.

Maybe if they want a hiding spot with a lot of members like the huge city I destroyed with Angela before, it’s fine. But here, there are just too few powerful people. As if they don’t care about anything at all.

Well, I’m not the one who will interrogate them. I’ll just kill many and capture some.

But not now. I need to check other cities first.

The only good news is that there’s no one hiding underground. So everyone is out there. And it seems like the security is really low.

"Victoria, leave a Blobby somewhere in the desert. We’ll come back later," I said to Victoria.

After we mark this place with Blobbies, we search for the other city.

That city was rather huge for a city of criminals. Maybe the Fake Emperor did a good job for real. But it doesn’t matter to me.

We search for the next city. It should be around the second oasis. And when we get there, there’s no city. Not even an oasis. So we landed there in where the city should be.

"No one here. No oasis. No trees. I guess this place has been gone for years and no one knows about it," I said.

"Is the city covered by sand?" Victoria asked.

"Yes. The city is buried. And there are corpses as well. As for the oasis, it seems like there’s no more water coming out. Well, we didn’t find anything. But let’s mark this place in case Lynn wants to see the condition of this city," I said.

The second city is gone. So we’re going to the third city.

But we’re not just going to check three cities. We will also check if there are any other places where people can live. Maybe there’s a hidden new city built or something.

The third city is... more like a village. No, it’s more like a slum. The oasis is there but the water is limited. Everyone is barely surviving. If we leave them be, they could die anytime.

I’ll just mark this place again and let Lynn handle it. Now, let’s scout more places in case there is another city here.

"Ray, let’s go."

We fly at Ray’s highest speed. Using my Divine Vision, I checked every place to see if there are any other cities.

I could see several small oases. But there’s no city. I’ll check a bit more before I return to the capital.

With Ray’s speed, we could check a huge area and probably almost the entirety of the desert in just a few hours. But there’s no other city. We only found two.

"Well, I guess it’s time to return. Victoria, tell Lynn that we’re coming back soon," I said.

"You’re not going to suddenly appear like before?" Victoria asked.

"Not this time. Should I?"

"I’ll call her now," she said.

I’m also riding Ray in the path from the first city to the capital. A path that the Fake Emperor should be going to take today when he was running away from the scorpions. In case I see some people or something suspicious on the way.

And when Lynn said that it’s fine, we didn’t find anything. So we just return there directly using a portal.

And we somehow end up in an audience room with the Fake Emperor and the other four people standing as the guests. There are also other influential people in the audience room. Some knows me, some don’t. They were shocked to see a portal suddenly opened.

Well, some of them should be the people who tried to make contact with me. That’s why Lynn told me when I should go to her location. But I never thought it would be in the audience room during an official event and also a sudden one. It seems like all the nobles in the capital is here.

"Roy, what did you find?" Lynn asked.

"From the three places that you mentioned before, other than the first city where these guys were from, it’s not worth mentioning. The second city is already gone. Buried by probably the sandstorm. The oasis was also dried. The third city is like a slum. If no one is doing anything to help, it will probably be gone anytime soon," I said

"Then about the first city, you and some other people will infiltrate that place tonight. The others will have their own mission. While your mission will be to take this guy with you to locate his family and bring them here safely," Lynn said as she pointed to the Fake Emperor. She really didn’t say his name knowing that I would have forgotten about it.

Still, she’s so capable. But because Claudia was more capable, everyone seems to be underestimating her. But now, the truth is revealed.

...Though it’s still fun to make fun of her when she’s not being a good leader. I’ll continue making fun of her like that. But not in a situation like this. Just a situation where she doesn’t need to use her brain.

She had tried to converse with the people there. Including the one who might be the one in charge here. More like the elder.

And it seems like they have all given up on living. So Claudia suggested to bring them to a village and see if they will change for the better or not.

The oasis is also too small now. Before long, the same thing would happen like in the second city.

If there’s any water mage in the desert city, even just one, then their lives would be better. But I guess water magic is rare. And even if there are many, if they live in the desert, it’s hard for them to increase their level. So it’s not like they can survive long.

Then I brought everyone to the second city.

"It’s empty. Is this really that place?" someone asked.

Then Celestine simply used her earth magic and raised the buried buildings in the area. All of a sudden, some people stand on top of a rooftop of a building.

"It really is empty. Everyone here has died for a long time," Lynn said.

"It’s also possible that the newcomers in the first city came from this one. Princess Celestine, can you feel any water from the underground? Maybe there’s still a bit of water left," Claudia asked.

"No. there’s no water at all. It’s all dried up," Celestine said.

"Then it’s possible in the near future that the first city will receive the same fate. Well, the safety of the imperial family member is important. So at least we need to save his family," Claudia said.
