Chapter 533: You’re a Troubled Youth, Too
Robert rented a house and worked as a priest at a nearby church, always carrying a Bible around looking all profound.
Every day, he gets up early and prays at every meal, even dragging Xiaoze into it. Initially, Xiaoze found it boring and refused to cooperate, but after a few days, he surprisingly adapted.
Honestly, during this visit, Mu Yiliang strongly opposed him bringing anything electronic besides his phone, so he was bored out of his mind. Listening to Uncle Robert’s Bible stories was at least some form of entertainment.
The only comfort was that Housekeeper Li came along to take care of his meals.
But every time they ate, he’d already be wolfing down his food, while Robert was still praying, completely ruining his appetite!
"Uncle Robert, seriously, with all your devotion, can the Lord really hear you?" Xiaoze rolled his eyes in annoyance.
Robert glanced at him dismissively, not bothering to argue.
Xiaoze, feeling choked with anger, said for the umpteenth time to Housekeeper Li, "Uncle Li, let’s leave right after we eat! This place is unbearable!"
Robert immediately smiled and said, "Then I won’t see you off, give my regards to your mommy."
"Hmph! If you think you can drive me away, not a chance!" Xiaoze wouldn’t leave that easily!
He’d searched everywhere nearby these past few days, but found no clues! Where could Uncle Robert possibly have hidden anyone!
"If you’re bored, there are plenty of kids around here you could make friends with," Robert said, smiling warmly.
Xiaoze scoffed, "I don’t want to!"
He’d already met those kids Robert mentioned; a few were even older than him and still climbing trees to rob nests or fishing. If not, they were playing with slingshots, utterly childish!
Robert patted his head sympathetically, "You’re a troubled youth, no wonder your mommy worries so much about you."
Xiaoze suddenly had a stroke of insight, "Uncle Robert, did mommy say something to you before I came over?"
Robert showed an expression of ’finally understanding’, "You’re finally catching on. Your mommy said you’re too arrogant and asked me to knock you down a peg."
"Who’s arrogant!" Xiaoze bristled immediately!
"Then why won’t you play with the other kids?" Robert’s eyes flashed, "Those games they play, you might not even win!"
"Robbing bird nests, catching sparrows, those games?" Xiaoze’s face was expressionless.
Robert spread his hands, "In any case, your mommy said she hopes you’ll interact more with your peers. If you really don’t want to, I won’t force you."
Xiaoze was fuming!
He should have realized; when mommy sent him away, she specifically arranged for Housekeeper Li as well. Clearly, she intended for him to stay here longer!
The town of Z is remote, thus relatively safe. Moreover, this area is filled with familiar faces; any strangers appearing would be immediately noticed by the bodyguards, ensuring his safety to the greatest extent.
Xiaoze understood mommy’s intentions, but... to actually go play with those little kids?
Too childish!
The thought of that scene made him feel disgusted!
After dinner, he strolled to the river nearby again; at least the scenery here was quite nice.
His ears were filled with the sounds of boys playing around, making him frown. He was about to find another spot when he noticed out of the corner of his eye that those boys seemed to be surrounding someone, their jeering filled with a hint of malice!
