Chapter 337 - 306: Jinbao Complains: Daddy Keeps Going in Circles (Part 2)

After lunch, Wen Wan took Jinbao to the room to change clothes, while Song Wei instructed Uncle Lin to prepare the carriage.

For convenience during the outing, Wen Wan specifically chose a jacket with narrow sleeves.

Outside it was sweltering hot, and the light blue color she wore made people feel cool and refreshing.

Song Wei stood at the main door, watching the two figures, one big and one small, slowly approaching him, and suddenly a deep sense of indescribable satisfaction welled up in his heart.

When Wen Wan came close, Song Wei smiled slightly, "Have you decided where to go?"

"To the lake." Wen Wan finished speaking and didn’t forget to consult with her husband, "How does that sound to you?"

Song Wei nodded, "Today is your special day, whatever you say goes."

Wen Wan smiled, "Though it’s my birthday, today’s focus is on our son. As parents, missing two of his birthdays is really irresponsible." With that said, she bent down to look at the little one, her voice softening further, "Jinbao, do you agree with mommy?"

The adults spoke in long sentences, and Jinbao couldn’t understand. Seeing his mommy looking at him, he responded with a couple of "ah ah" sounds, a rather perfunctory reply.

No matter what was said, he knew changing into new clothes meant going out to play.

Every time they took him out to the street, the little guy was particularly excited, and today was no different.

Wen Wan noticed her son’s cunning response and found it amusing. She was about to carry him onto the carriage, but Jinbao pointed to the footstool, indicating he wanted to get on by himself and not be carried.

Wen Wan asked, "It’s so high, can you get up there?"

Jinbao pulled his little hand back from his mother’s grasp and walked towards the footstool. He couldn’t take big steps, so he used both his hands and feet, climbing up step by step. After a hard struggle, he finally got to the shaft, and clumsily stood up slowly, then let out a breath, clearly tired.

Wen Wan and Song Wei exchanged a glance, their faces filled with undisguised affection for their son, and the couple quickly followed suit.

They sat Jinbao in the middle seat, and Wen Wan instructed Uncle Lin outside, "To Mirror Lake."

Mirror Lake was in the western part of the city, named because "boats float as if in the air, and people move as though walking in a mirror."

Along the long embankment were rows of weeping willows planted, and at intervals, there were pavilions for tourists to rest.

When the family of three arrived, every pavilion was occupied by tourists, and Wen Wan didn’t want to mingle with others so she didn’t plan to go up.

She looked around and saw a stall selling sour plum soup not far away.

It was too hot, and Wen Wan suggested having a bowl of sour plum soup first, then renting a small boat to enjoy the lake.

Song Wei had no objections, and the couple, holding Jinbao by each hand, headed to the stall.

Considering Jinbao was still little, Wen Wan only ordered two bowls of sour plum soup.

When it was served, she was about to feed Jinbao, but Song Wei scooped half a spoonful to feed the little guy first.

The little guy stuck out his tongue, and upon tasting the sourness, wore a somewhat peculiar expression.

Wen Wan asked him, "Can you drink it?"

Jinbao shook his head fiercely, not liking sour but preferring sweet.

Wen Wan then asked the stall owner for a bowl of sweet soup.

Though there was no ice to chill it, it was still cold. Worried that Jinbao might drink too much and upset his stomach, Wen Wan only fed him three spoonfuls. After the third, no matter how much the little guy drooled, she didn’t let him drink anymore, and set the bowl aside, paid, and proceeded to rent a boat.

After midday, the sun wasn’t as scorching, occasionally a breeze blew by with a hint of coolness.

By the lakeside there were several painted pleasure boats and small wooden boats, specifically for lake tours.

Following Wen Wan’s request, Song Wei rented a small wooden boat and beckoned them over.

Wen Wan took her son’s hand and walked over, then stopped to ask the little guy, "Jinbao, do you want to get on the boat?"

Jinbao glanced at the small boat docked by the shore, looking a bit dazed.

Wen Wan added, "There are many fish inside!"

Upon hearing about fish, Jinbao got thrilled.

"Come, mommy will carry you up." Wen Wan bent down and effortlessly lifted him, letting him lie on her shoulder, and then carefully stepped onto the small wooden boat via the stone steps.

The boat wasn’t large, just right for the family of three, with mats on the floorboards.

After sitting down, Wen Wan placed her son in front of her, ensuring her hands shielded his sides to prevent the little guy from suddenly falling in.

"Ready?" on the other side, Song Wei was already holding the oar.

Wen Wan nodded, "Let’s go, let’s row to the other side and take a look, then come back."

For the first time rowing, it was a challenge for Mr. Song, who was successful in officialdom, as the small wooden boat spun in circles several times in its original spot.

Wen Wan graciously didn’t laugh, instead, Jinbao, sensing the boat wasn’t moving, giggled cheerfully.

On a nearby small boat, the person holding the oar was about a seven or eight-year-old boy, and skillfully paddled past them at a leisurely pace, casting a glance their way with a hint of smugness.
