Chapter 1564 446: Plague Tooth Assassin (Part 4)
Chapter 1564 446: Plague Tooth Assassin (Part 4)
What drove them to despair was that they had already left more than twenty corpses on the ground, yet still had not caught so much as a glimpse of that Spellcaster.
They didn't even know if he was actually inside this castle; they could only watch helplessly as those rampaging Knights, under the cover of Magic, butchered them.
Seeing the Walking Knight charging straight at him, Gini Rotten Tongue drew the Scimitar hidden beneath his cloak and swung hard, taking the Knight's helmet off in a single slash.
But what made him despair was that even with its head chopped off, the Knight still acted as if nothing had happened, whirling its Nail Head Hammer down at him; only thanks to his agile footwork did he manage to dodge that frenzied blow.
His opponent had gone from a Walking Knight to a Headless Knight.
Not only that, just as he reversed his grip on the Scimitar and prepared to cut that Headless Knight in half at the waist, an invisible giant hand suddenly seized his wildly pounding heart.
His eyes bulged, and he felt as if every blood vessel in his body had been flooded with poison; his Strength was draining away at an unbelievable speed…
Undead Magic!
"Soul Drain?!" he screamed in terror, trying to break free of those unseen chains, trying also to dispel the fear in his heart.
The Headless Knight was closing in on him, and with it came the sweeping Nail Head Hammer!
Howling steel let out a ferocious roar; that single strike would have been enough to shatter a city gate unprotected by Magic in an instant!
Gini Rotten Tongue kicked back hard, barely dodging the lethal blow, then used the rebound to flip himself over the edge of the castle toward the ground below.
This was his only chance at survival!
He had already seen clearly that the Mage toying with him had the power to completely crush him!
Let alone a mere Gold Level Plague Tooth Assassin like himself— even a Diamond Level Chaos Chosen would probably suffer a disastrous fall in front of that guy…
The dozens of meters vanished in a heartbeat!
Gini landed heavily, kicking up a noisy plume of dust at the edge of the training ground!
The agonizing pain lancing through his ankles and knees twisted his rat-like face for an instant, but that expression of pain was quickly replaced by the wild ecstasy of having escaped with his life.
He'd made it!
The giant hand gripping his heart seemed to have loosened, and he had successfully slipped out of the casting range of Soul Drain.
There was no time to mourn his butchered subordinates; he didn't dare pause for even a second, throwing every ounce of his Strength into a sprint toward the hedges beside the training ground, trying to flee this blood-soaked Hell.
He had to bring back the news that there was a Diamond Level Undead Mage guarding the Holy Daughter!
This might become the most direct proof of the Hell Power interfering in the Twilight Province situation!
However—
He had celebrated far too early.
His foreclaws had only just brushed the castle's inner courtyard when a hair-raising chill climbed up his spine.
That feeling…
It was like being locked onto by a natural predator.
His legs felt as heavy as if they'd been filled with lead. Gini Rotten Tongue forced his neck to turn and finally saw the figure standing by the fountain, and the pair of ears pricked atop her black fur.
Bloodthirsty cruelty flickered within her vertical pupils; she seemed to have been waiting here for quite a while.
In the final second of his Life, Gini Rotten Tongue once more heard that offhand voice.
"Sarah, he's yours."
He had never escaped that invisible giant hand, not even for a single second…
"As you command."
The last 0.1 seconds.
A cold Dagger and the sound of rending air pierced into his paper-thin skull together…
...
The slaughter along the castle corridors was over; from start to finish, it had taken barely three minutes.
If it hadn't been for wanting to test the new Spells he'd learned on the road, Luo Yan could have made these little rats die in a way far more excruciating.
Space twisted slightly, and a cerulean butterfly flashed into view and vanished again.
When Luo Yan once more stood in the corridor, a wide-eyed Carian appeared at his side as well.
"What on earth…" Carian's face was full of shock as she took in the blood slurry and scattered limbs littering the floor.
"Ratmen from the Ten Thousand Ridges Mountain Range," Luo Yan let go of that soft little hand and said mildly, "I should have mentioned before: the Green Forest Army isn't a simple rebel army. They probably hooked up with the Ratmen a long time ago."
"What I actually wanted to ask was just now…" Carian sneaked a glance at him. "How did I suddenly end up outside the castle?"
Luo Yan explained casually.
"That's my Magic. Mm… could you keep it a secret for me for now? I don't want too many people to know about it."
In truth, it wasn't Magic at all, but a gift called the "Butterfly of All Things" given to him by the Solipsians.
But that was too much trouble to explain, so he didn't intend to.
Carian nodded earnestly.
"I'm willing to swear on my Life that I'll guard this secret with my whole lifetime."
"No need to be that dramatic."
If it were really that serious, he wouldn't have used this Skill right in front of her.
Carian took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down quickly as she swept her gaze over the bodies around them.
"I understand now why you said not everyone hopes this great blaze will end… Even if we want to live in peace with them, they'll still come for us for the sake of their own desire and ambition."
"Correct." Luo Yan nodded in approval, looking with satisfaction at this simple country girl.
She was growing quickly.
And that saved him quite a bit of training time; he could skip the prelude and get straight to the main act.
Carian bowed respectfully, her sincere voice asking for an Oracle.
"…Please tell me what I should do next."
There wasn't a hint of doubt in that voice.
Just like when she'd taken his hand earlier, there was no hesitation at all.
"…The Rock Sword Saint is on his way here. He may arrive at the castle by dusk. That man is also extremely kind. He's willing to use the sword in his hand to cut away all the thorns for you and let your Order spread into Griffin Cliff Territory, where people are living in dire straits."
Passing on the intel he'd gleaned to Carian, Luo Yan continued in a relaxed tone.
"I need you to follow your destiny and, in the name of the Holy Daughter, spread the light of Order there, bringing bread and the 'new doctrine' to those suffering in the flames."
"I believe that with the way you are now, even if you never again listen to my Oracles, you'll still know exactly how to carry this through."
He couldn't possibly go with Carian.
After all, with a Sword Saint coming here, he had to take Sarah and Taufu and leave this castle for a while…
