Chapter 1480 426: Three Wishes (Part 3)
Chapter 1480 426: Three Wishes (Part 3)
The amusing part about people is this: they always remember others' cunning but forget what they themselves are like.
Ultimately, the Divine is merely an anchor created by the masses to stabilize their Spirit.
He stands above all yet does not lead anyone. He can satisfy some of the desires of the faithful, but he cannot take them to lands they themselves have never seen.
Sitting in that car, Luo Yan smiled as he appreciated that defiant face, waiting for this slick person to lie.
"Alright! I agree with you."
Brennan looked straightforwardly at the Nun in front of him, as though looking at Saint Sis himself.
"If He can truly fulfill our wishes, let alone follow His teachings, what difference does it make if we fight for Him?"
After a pause, his tone shifted, and his cheerful smile turned sinister as he glanced over Lady Carian.
"But let me say the ugly words first, if He fails to keep His promises and hides away again..."
Lady Carian showed no fear, her expression equally straightforward, and said calmly.
"I will accept the consequences."
Brennan smiled slightly.
"I was waiting for you to say that—"
He had just finished when a dazzling light suddenly emphasized his shadow on the ground.
Brennan hesitated instinctively, then looked up at the sky, and was stunned the next second.
He saw a shining ball of light appear in the sky.
It was like a burning hot iron stamp, poking into the lead-gray clouds, burning a hole in the sky!
At that moment, it seemed like there were two suns in the sky!
Everyone standing on the country dirt road was astonished.
They had believed in the Holy Sis Church all their lives, but it was the first time they had seen such a sight!
"What is... going on?!"
"Magic?"
"Impossible... if it's magic, it must at least be Platinum Level! That's the Bishop's Strength!"
"It's, a, miracle!"
The Bishop was clearly not here; that esteemed person was not even in this Twilight Province.
There's only one possibility!
The Nun named Carian in front of them was the Chosen One of Saint Sis!
He had never abandoned them, but had already sent His messenger, and they were just a moment away from meeting her!
The soldiers wearing Green Turbans stood helplessly as their previously boastful faces now showed panic.
This time, it was them who were clueless about what to do.
Before the refugees' faith could waver, it was this group of Green Forest Army whose faith faltered first...
Unlike those flustered soldiers, the followers of Lady Carian exclaimed at the unbelievable miracle before them.
They dropped to their knees, with two blazing suns overhead, praying sincerely.
"It's a miracle!"
"Saint Sis above!"
"I implore Your mercy to forgive my sins... bring my Soul to Your side."
The noisy voices rose one after another; Brennan widened his eyes as he stared at his brothers, wanting to scold them to wake up, but his jaw felt as heavy as if filled with lead.
That wasn't due to any Magic, but his inner reverence had been awakened again.
The Divine was watching him...
A cold sweat dripped from his forehead, silently merging into the dry soil.
His expression quickly contorted; his bloodshot eyes trembled as if in a fight.
"This can't be... if you truly exist, what have you been doing! Why come out only now!"
While he wrestled with his inner turmoil, Lady Carian walked up to him and spoke gently.
"Mr. Brennan, I too have felt resentment, cursed, and doubted... why let me, without reason, fall into Hell, betrayed by loved ones, dragged by Demons to endure incessant fear and torment."
Brennan squeezed a hoarse voice from his throat.
"What do you understand..."
"I haven't experienced your Hell."
Lady Carian lowered her gaze and after a moment slowly spoke, recounting her story.
Including how she was sold by loved ones to Lady Lina, how she narrowly escaped the Demons' clutches, how she wandered in the desolate snowfields for three days and nights, saw hope, plunged back into Hell, and finally survived and realized her mission...
Brennan was stunned, and his gaze gradually carried a hint of incredulity.
Not because he could empathize with her suffering, but due to the disbelief that someone could climb out of Hell so many times and still remain resilient.
What made him even more in awe was that, after all those trials, she still held onto her piety.
He suddenly began to believe that she might indeed carry something... from Saint Sis.
Perhaps, she really was sent here by Saint Sis.
But that was still merely a perhaps.
"The wager isn't over... your faith won't fill our bellies," Brennan stared at her, wavering, and continued slowly, "But you are different from other Priests; you've at least fulfilled a promise. I can make an exception and allow you to leave here with your belongings, as though we never met."
He suddenly remembered his principles, which only recently came to mind.
He only killed Nobles and teachers and their lackeys, and this Nun... evidently wasn't either according to her description.
He used to rather kill ten thousand wrongly than let one go, but now he's decided to show leniency.
Yet Lady Carian gently shook her head.
"I won't leave; the God sent me here; I originally came to save you..."
Before the Green Forest Army "General" could speak, she continued softly.
"Now it's time to fulfill my second promise... please let your soldiers help me."
Brennan was taken aback, unconsciously led by her words.
"Help you? With what?"
"Of course, with transporting food."
Lady Carian turned to the convoy and looked at the stunned Mr. Thomas.
"Please lend me your convoy; I assure you I will return them to you intact."
With a thud, Mr. Thomas kneeled, sincerely as though facing Saint Sis himself, his shoulders uncontrollably trembling.
"Please tell me what to do... Holy Daughter."
Regardless of others' belief, he truly believed.
After all, the glowing sphere in the sky, if it were Magic, must at least be Platinum Level Magic!
He acknowledges Mr. Colin's strength, but Platinum Level seems overly exaggerated.
Such a level counts as Upper Extraordinary, at least a renowned War General in the Kingdom, at least a Demon King's sidekick in the Maze.
Besides, if that gentleman possessed such Strength, why not simply crush this group of bandits?
That might even be easier!
Thus, there's only one explanation: the Holy Light hovering above was not crafted by a Mortal hand but was the descent of Divine majesty upon the Mortal World!
Eliminating all unreasonable possibilities, this was the closest explanation to the truth he could think of!
Saint Sis above, he and Hawke naively thought Mr. Colin saved Lady Carian that morning!
Clearly, the one who acted was Saint Sis himself!
At this moment, Mr. Thomas finally realized the true meaning behind Mr. Colin's "this is interesting."
The Mage had long seen that behind the Sister stood a Divine...
Recalling his and Hog's betrayal of her, Thomas trembled with fear.
Yet facing his panic and penance, Lady Carian smiled warmly and soothed his inner terror.
"I'm not such an important person, not worthy of the title Holy Daughter and Highness."
"Just call me Sister or Lady Carian."
