Chapter 1478 426: Three Wishes
Chapter 1478 426: Three Wishes
Dark clouds hung low, the atmosphere was murderous!
On either side of the road, in the forest, soldiers armed with firearms and grass forks encircled Thomas's caravan tightly, with numbers reaching at least a thousand.
Yet, it seemed more accurate to describe these men as hungry farmers rather than soldiers.
Their weapons were varied, but the only unified attire appeared to be the green turbans tied to their heads.
Facing the terrified caravan guards and the shivering refugees, there wasn't a shred of pity in their eyes.
A burly man walked right in front of the caravan.
He wore a bear skin, carried a round shield in his left hand, and a broad-bladed battle axe rested on his shoulder, highlighting his powerful physique.
The mottled dark red on the axe blade, whether rust or blood, did not hinder his menacing smile.
"Robbers? Us? Pal, I can't pretend I didn't hear that; which eye did you use to see us committing robbery?"
The mercenary leader looked at him, face sullen, muscles tense, the flintlock gun in his hand trembling slightly.
Bronze? Fine steel? Silver?
Or... even higher?
The overwhelming aura made him tremble all over.
He could not fathom the strength of the man before him, it was his first encounter with a robber of such power!
After all, someone with such abilities could live well anywhere, why resort to being a bandit struggling for sustenance?
Suppressing his inner fear, the mercenary leader signaled to Ben at his side, indicating the latter should quickly go to find Mr. Colin.
At the same time, he stared at the man of uncertain strength, pretending to be calm.
"Isn't it so? You encircled us without a word, apart from this possibility... I can't think of another reason. Of course, if you have no intention of robbery, I will apologize to you."
Seemingly amused by this statement, the burly man with the battle axe grinned.
"Your name?"
The mercenary leader said in a low voice.
"Hog."
"Hog..." The man with the green turban nodded, grinned, and said, "You are calm, although a bit weak... I'm Brennan, people call me 'Iron Bull', how about joining me?"
The mercenary leader froze for a moment, seeing that he did not seem to be joking, a flash of struggle appeared in his eyes.
However, in the end, he responded in a low, deep voice.
"Sorry, I can't. Since I've accepted the money, I must ensure my employer reaches the destination... In my hometown, breaking a vow sends you straight to hell."
Brennan laughed heartily, glanced around, then looked behind.
"Hell? What's the difference between here and hell? You're already there!"
Hog remained unmoved, calmly spoke.
"The difference is... I remain human, not a demon, nor have I fallen to consort with demons."
Brennan's expression turned grim, moving the axe from his shoulder to his side.
"Won't you reconsider?"
"Nothing to reconsider."
Hog stared at him unwaveringly and suddenly smiled.
"Seems you've decided to shed your disguise? For a moment I thought I might be mistaken."
"You're not mistaken; we're indeed not robbers, but the Green Forest Army."
Brennan let out a cold laugh, narrowed his eyes as he stared and said.
"However, it's true we won't let you pass; the Sparrow Wood Territory ahead has been surrounded by us. No goods can enter except people."
Hog continued to stare at him and said.
"Looks like we're blocking your siege, we'll turn around now."
Brennan gestured to let them pass, yet the soldiers surrounding them showed no intention of letting them leave.
Neither did he.
"Do as you please, but your supplies must stay as provisions for the siege; they've been requisitioned. Also, we'll check whether there are nobles and priests in your ranks; we won't miss anyone who sells their soul to Chaos."
This is one of the siege tactics.
Although Sparrow Wood Castle's walls stood firm, they could erode the morale of the castle's soldiers with starving refugees consuming each other.
These soldiers were believers; they couldn't bear this sight.
Especially not long ago, these lord's minions had just scoured the territories for grain, and even if it didn't shake their morale, it could shake their faith.
No Earl, no matter how hard-hearted, could guard a castle alone without yielding ground.
So continued the righteously spoken Brennan, Hog burst into laughter.
"You indeed are robbers."
Facing Cavalry of Rhode Kingdom, even just two would make him tremble and dare not defy.
Yet somehow, facing the obviously stronger robbers in front of him, he felt no fear at all.
Rhode Kingdom is a land of mercenaries.
Perhaps he was born to fight bandits, this is his reason for standing here.
Seeing Hog ready for battle, Brennan displayed a cruel smile.
"Seems you no longer understand human speech. But fear not, my brethren will teach you... what humility and etiquette mean."
The Green Forest Army soldiers behind Brennan were ready for the slaughter, their eyes revealing a ferocious gleam.
Just as Brennan was about to give the order to attack, a sudden change occurred; in the crowd mingled in confusion, a path unexpectedly cleared itself.
