The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 1385 403: The Beginning of Chaos (Part 3)

Chapter 1385 403: The Beginning of Chaos (Part 3)

The cold and damp air accumulated in the narrow corridor, almost turning into a tangible entity, as five young female apprentices cautiously advanced, each breath filled with turbid moisture.

Although the vast majority of apprentices were stalled by the first layer's undead, quite a few managed to break through the undead blockade and reach the deeper parts of the maze.

Unexpectedly for many magic apprentices, starting from the second layer, did the difficulty of the maze trial suddenly decrease?

Here, there were no wandering undead of inconceivable nature, and even the traps had finally turned into forms they had seen in their textbooks...

"Finally got rid of those damned skeletons..."

"That Merk is really neurotic; where did he get those troublesome guys from?"

"Could it be someone is controlling them from behind? I think their actions don't seem like ordinary undead at all. They seem manipulated by a necromancer..."

"Don't talk nonsense, where in the Academic State would a necromancer come from, and how many mages would it take to control so many undead?"

"Could it be Hell..."

"Ha, unless those demons have gone mad. Would they bother going through so much just to create trouble for us apprentices in the maze trial?"

"Anjie, I have to say... Your mind is getting worse and worse."

"I really worry if you can graduate. You can't be troubling Miss Lassitina over every little thing, can you?"

"Right, I'm sorry..." Faced with the "closeness" of Lassitina's two good friends, Anjie shivered and shrank her neck.

Watching Anjie seemingly bullied, Ilana frowned slightly, wanting to say something but unsure if this was just a joke between friends.

Anjie had mentioned more than once that she was very close to these three senior sisters, though Ilana always felt that this one-sided tolerance and appeasement was abnormal.

She thought she should ask her once the trial was over...

Just as Ilana was looking at Anjie, the gaze of a "captain" seemed to land on her ever so faintly.

Lassitina's fingers rubbed against the storage bag at her waist, clearly feeling the hard outline of that square box through the leather.

It was something she had bought from a shop introduced by a senior a few days prior.

The box was entirely black, wrapped in a layer of rune black cloth, which was said to cause great turmoil if opened in the maze.

Should she use it now?

Lassitina was still hesitating in her heart.

The old witch who sold her the "box" exuded an ominous aura that still gave her a chill. She had no doubt about the box's power, but she was hesitant to take things to that extent.

She just wanted to teach a certain someone a lesson for not recognizing herself, without letting things spiral completely out of control... though it was, ironically, the safest course for her.

Lassitina took a deep breath, temporarily dispelling the chaotic thoughts in her mind.

She decided to look for another opportunity, only using this box in an absolute necessity...

It would be great if they encountered a few acidic slimes just now.

And at that moment, sounds were indeed coming from the corner of the passage ahead, with several large figures squirming, completely blocking the group's path.

Those were three slime monsters, each about two meters tall. Their hulking, gray-green translucent bodies looked like huge jellies, emitting a faint acidic stench.

They had no facial features, only occasionally puffing bubbles on the surface to prove they were living creatures.

In Ilana's mind, the records from the "Monster Atlas" instantly flashed—

Slime Monsters!

The attack method is to swallow prey whole!

They have decent resistance to slashing, piercing, and magic. The best way to deal with them is to freeze them with ice magic, then destroy them with wind or earth element attack magic!

Even though the slime monsters in the trial maze won't digest people after swallowing, they still pose a significant danger by suffocating and fainting the prey whole!

As Ilana was quickly analyzing the weaknesses of the monsters in front, a perfect idea simultaneously exploded in Lassitina's mind.

This was simply a godsend opportunity!

Her sharp gaze swiftly swept over the two sidekicks by her side, and Anjie and others immediately understood, revealing eager and mischievous smiles.

"Don't worry! Ilana, these small fries are nothing! Watch me and I'll take care of it right away!" Anjie raised her voice, sounding like she was cheering herself up, or perhaps deliberately speaking for Ilana to hear.

"Flame Burst Technique!"

"Haha, watch my Fireball Continuous Fire! Go get them, my little darlings!"

The two mage apprentices standing next to Anjie raised their magic wands almost simultaneously. Amidst their chant, scorching fireballs and explosive flames howled towards the bodies of the slime monsters.

"Wait! They can't—" Ilana's heart jumped at the sight, her warning cry was barely out before it was drowned out by a thunderous hissing sound.

Flames struck the slime monsters, and not only did they fail to cause effective damage, but it was as if boiling water had been poured into a pot of hot oil!

In an instant, an incredibly dense white steam suddenly burst forth, engulfing the entire passage in an all-consuming momentum!

This is the mistake that almost every self-taught wizard would commit; fire magic, which seemed to restrain slime monsters, was actually a trap!

With their bodies containing a substantial amount of moisture, slime monsters were certainly not like slimes and wouldn't be vaporized that easily, unless the spellcasters had overwhelming magic power!

It's understandable for adventurers to make this mistake, but for "formally trained" wizards, it's something that should never be committed.
