Chapter 720: Void Thunder
Chapter 720: Void Thunder
Twin Moon Star was originally an inconspicuous planet. When the Red Alert Empire expanded its territory here, the humans of this planet were nearly annihilated by a meteor shower from the vast expanse of the universe.
This was a true catastrophe!
Even with the protection of an energy shield, the population of Twin Moon Star suffered immensely. After the meteor shower, nearly forty percent of its inhabitants perished. Those who survived bore various injuries, and the entire planet was shrouded in thick dust from the meteors, obscuring the sky.
To make matters worse, figures of the Zerg emerged from within the meteor shower, and the inhabitants found themselves on the losing end of the battle against these invaders.
If not for the timely intervention of the Red Alert Empire, the planet would have inevitably fallen to the Zerg.
From this incident, Su Chen discovered that the Zerg traversed galaxies in this manner, appearing on different planets.
For the people of Twin Moon Star, the Red Alert Empire was nothing short of their savior. The Feathered Warbler Empire was a distant memory.
During the planet's crisis, it wasn't the Feathered Warbler Empire that came to their rescue. And since they never felt any sense of belonging to the Feathered Warbler Empire, they overwhelmingly supported the rule of the Red Alert Empire.
One day, the residents of Twin Moon Star noticed an increase in the number of Red Alert Empire soldiers, and flying weapons frequently soared across the skies, which made them uneasy.
The Planet Controller then revealed the truth. When they learned that the Feathered Warbler Empire's army intended to attack their planet, they were filled with righteous anger, openly cursing the Emperor of the Feathered Warbler Empire.
In the space outside Twin Moon Star, a fully-formed fleet was awaiting the arrival of the Feathered Warbler Empire's fleet. The temporary commander of this fleet was Su Yi!
As someone possessing a superior commander template, Su Yi had seldom been responsible for such large-scale battles, which was a waste of his talent.
This time, Su Chen specifically designated Su Yi to take charge, with others assisting.
Regarding the commander's decision, no one objected. They were all aware that from Su Yi to Su Jiu, these nine soldiers were the earliest to follow the commander. Even Ju Ling couldn't compare.
In the flagship's command room, Su Yi looked ahead with a stern expression, asking, “How long before they arrive?”
“According to Officer Alice's calculations, it will be another 5 hours before they enter our detection range,” the Deputy replied.
Although Alice was an artificial intelligence, she held a significant rank within Red Alert Base. Many soldiers viewed her as one of the most reliable officers.
From their inception, the first entity they encountered was Officer Alice, making her invaluable to them.
“Then bring out the latest technology from the combat laboratory. Let's give our guests a proper taste of our hospitality,” Su Yi said with a smirk, much like Su Chen's.
The universe's beauty might initially appear mesmerizing, but prolonged exposure could cause one to tire of it. For the soldiers of the Feathered Warbler Empire, such sights had long lost their allure.
“General, it won't be long before we reach Twin Moon Star. Once we occupy it and establish a small Spatial Folding Device, we can rapidly appear on other planets. According to our calculations, it shouldn’t take more than two years to suppress the forces here,” the Deputy informed.
For them, completing a mission in two years seemed like a breeze. Many viewed this journey as a leisure trip. After all, they might never have visited such a remote planet if not for this mission.
Suddenly, the flagship trembled. Hu Song's eyes widened in surprise as he bellowed, “What’s happening?”
The Deputy swiftly contacted the other warships. Within moments, he understood the situation, though his face grew pale, “General, we’ve been ambushed!”
“What?” Hu Song was in disbelief. They had used the Spatial Folding Device to arrive and had chosen Twin Moon Star on a whim. How could they have been ambushed?
“Was there a leak? Or do they have more advanced detection systems?”
Either scenario spelled bad news for Hu Song.
“How did they ambush us?” He looked around but saw no enemy warships. He only noticed sporadic flashes of light which quickly vanished.
“It appears they've placed concealed explosive weapons in the void. Our warships collided with these devices, causing explosions. Currently, 45 of our warships are damaged, and 60 have been destroyed.”
Bang!
Hu Song slammed his fist on the table in front of him, his eyes filled with rage. This mission had seemed like a walk in the park, but they'd sustained substantial losses even before reaching the enemy's planet. How would he explain this to the Emperor?
“Why didn’t our scanning system detect them?” Hu Song glared at his Deputy.
The Deputy, sweating profusely, stuttered, “General, their concealment technology seems to surpass our scanning capability. None of our warships detected these weapons.”
Hu Song took a deep breath, knowing that berating the Deputy further was pointless. If the scanning system couldn't detect them, they had only one option: manual mine clearance!
He directly ordered all the Powerhouses of Small Galaxy rank and above to move to the forefront of the fleet and locate the concealed weapons. If they were blown up in the process, it would be their misfortune!
No one dared defy the General's orders. Those who were typically captains or deputy captains now had to engage in menial tasks.
But there was no alternative. Only they had the ability to remain stationary in the cosmic void and stood a chance at discovering the concealed weapons.
This scene, observed through the galaxy-scale spy satellites, was broadcast to Su Yi and his team. Watching the disarray of the enemy, they couldn't help but chuckle.
“Yun Ru, these mines you developed, what did you call them? Their power is impressive. They're undoubtedly the best weapons for ambushes,” Guangtou Qiang said, rubbing his bald head and giving a thumbs up to Yun Ru.
Yun Ru raised her head proudly, saying with an air of nonchalance, “It took a lot of effort to develop the 'Void Thunder'. It combines previous mine research with a touch of Qiluo Civilization's technology. It's a new product and is ideal against large fleets like this. So satisfying to use.”
“It's a pity they arrived too quickly. Even with accelerated production at the base, we only managed to deploy so many.” (To be continued...)
