Chapter 1413: Forbidden Arts (1)
Watching her go in, she pushed open a wooden door and walked inside. The door was probably old and poorly maintained, creaking with each push, making Ruan Jiaojiao at the entrance of the alley shiver.
She pondered whether to follow, but was too afraid. As she was hesitating, she saw several pairs of small lanterns suddenly flying towards her from the alley.
These small lanterns were very bright and tiny, varying in height, but each pair seemed purposefully rushing in her direction.
Ruan Jiaojiao’s hair stood on end. There was no room for hesitation now, so she almost turned and ran at once.
But as soon as those small lanterns saw her running, they flew even faster, almost swooshing right up to her and circling around her legs, rubbing against her.
"!!!" Ruan Jiaojiao.
When she finally saw clearly what these small lanterns really were, she was both amused and exasperated.
They were actually some cats and dogs!
Amused, she looked at the little creatures rubbing incessantly against her calves. She didn’t expect that even as a soul, she could attract these little animals’ affections.
She bent down and patted the little creatures’ heads.
The little ones felt her gentleness and rubbed against her for more affection, looking at her with joyful eyes.
However, as Jiaojiao continued to pet them, she felt something was off, and her small hand froze for a moment.
She remembered that as a soul, she couldn’t touch physical things in this world; she couldn’t even make a phone call before. So what were these animals she was touching now?
Ruan Jiaojiao’s scalp tingled.
She looked at the little ones still circling her calves; they seemed no different from ordinary cats and dogs and lacked the terrifying appearances she once imagined, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.
While stroking their little heads with peace of mind, she glanced at the half-open wooden door, still incessantly creaking in the wind, and asked, "Do you guys know what’s inside that wooden door?"
This area looked quite ancient and lacked any sign of human presence, making Ruan Jiaojiao suspect it was abandoned.
"Meow."
"Woof."
The little creatures responded.
Unfortunately, the language barrier meant Ruan Jiaojiao couldn’t understand what they were saying.
Ruan Jiaojiao waited about ten minutes, but Feng Nianian didn’t come out. Finally, she decided to go over and look herself. She gave the little creatures’ heads one last rub and said, "Can you accompany me? I’m a bit scared."
"Meow!"
"Woof woof!"
The little creatures immediately nodded.
Then they quickly shook their heads, looking at Ruan Jiaojiao with some urgency in their eyes.
They’d been living here for a long time, and normally, no one came to this place. It had always been their refuge, but a couple of years ago, something terrifying moved in, taking over their home and leaving them homeless, forcing them to find temporary shelter nearby. It also did some frightening things in their old home, and they hadn’t gone inside for a long time.
Such a terrifying place and entity cannot be shown to Little Cutie! It would scare them to death!
"What’s wrong?" Ruan Jiaojiao asked in confusion when she saw their agitated demeanor. She took two steps into the alley, but before she went far, one of the larger dogs, Dahuang, bit her pant leg.
