The Kingpin's Possession

47: All This Time

Kanya:Inside her room, Kanya got settled on the bed with N’Som’s help, and the younger woman was so gentle with her, as if she was a fragile egg ready to break at any moment, that she couldn’t help but laugh.

“Nong Som, thank you for your help, I can get on the bed myself,” she joked, smiling. “In case you forgot, I actually did not sustain any injuries from the shooting—if you can even call it that, given that it only happened once. If anything, you should pay closer attention to the car, since it actually got hit.”

N’Som hit her arm playfully. “Ow, but PhiKanya’s grin widened, and she reached up to ruffle Som’s hair, and the latter pretended to huff in annoyance and fixed her hair.

Over the course of her stay at the estate, she had gotten incredibly close to Nong Som, treating her like her own little sister since she knew how difficult it must have been for her to grow up alongside two strict older brothers. But aside from that, Kanya could feel a deeper bond with the little Nong, more than she had felt with anyone else. It was like…Som just understood her in ways no one else did.

“And for that I am grateful, really,” Kanya said to N’Som now. “But still… I’m not a fragile glass doll. I have faced several difficulties in my life already, and I’m not about to break so easily, not after that tiny little incident. I didn’t even get scratched!”

“I know that too, Phi,She turned suddenly to Kit. “Right?” she prompted, and he nodded without speaking.

Nong Som had been looking at her so intensely that Kanya honestly forgot that Kit was also in the room with them. It didn’t help that he was so quiet as well…

“Ah, my sweet little Som, you are making me emotional.” Teary-eyed, she spread her arms, inviting her in for a hug. “Get in here, you.”

Som happily obliged, and she turned to Kit and said, “Come on!”

Kit smiled at them as he approached, but it was strained. Even his steps seemed reluctant. He was stiff as he joined the group hug, but he tried his best to appear as normal as possible for the sake of P’Kanya and N’Som.

“You are everything to me,” she said to the both of them, and to Som, she said, “Never change who you are at heart.”

Some time after they pulled apart, Kit excused himself from the room. “I’m a bit tired as well,” he said, and the poor kid did sound exhausted. “I’ll head to my room now. You should rest up, Phi Nong“No promises,” Som giggled as he made for the door. He only shook his head in response.

“Rest well, Kit,” Kanya called after her brother. “You must have had a hard time earlier. Don’t worry about me; Som will keep me company.”

“I sure will!”

Kanya was his sister; so she could immediately tell that there was something off about him. Something must be bothering him… but Kanya didn’t know what it was yet. She didn’t want to pester him further either, seeing as he already looked stressed enough as it was. Maybe she’ll ask him another time, when they’ve both had the time to recuperate their nerves and forget about the incident.

“Alright!” Som exclaimed forcefully, making Kanya blink back to the present. “Now that it’s just the two of us, you have to tell me what happened at the clinic. How did it go? How did it feel? How are you feeling now?”

“Questions… so many questions…” Kanya couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm.

“And I demand answers!”

Kanya snorted. “Fine, fine. Well, they’re not as exciting as you might think. It went well without any problems, and I barely felt a thing.”

“Are you really pregnant already?” Som gushed as though they were gossiping.

“NongSuddenly, Som’s joking smile faded, replaced by a serious look, eyes devoid of any playfulness. “So what now?” she asked, her voice grave. “What’s going to happen between you and P’Kla?”

At that, Kanya’s energy for banter, too, shut down. She couldn’t keep the distress off her face, and Som must have felt sorry because she softened a bit, though she still remained firm. “That’s for the future to see,” Kanya said evasively.

“No!” Som shook her head sternly. “You have to talk to him!” she insisted. “Communication is the most important key to a healthy and happy relationship.”

“NongSom stayed silent, holding her gaze. She was nothing if not a good listener, and that was one of the reasons why Kanya adored her so much.

“P’Kla had always suspected me ever since I entered this house,” she continued. “He thought that I was a gold digger who was only after Kim’s money, and even when I later proved him wrong, it was clear that he never fully trusted me.” Kanya sighed. “Even when I made the first move and kissed him to show him that I liked him, he never came to talk to me after that.”

Kanya leaned heavily on the bed, letting her head sink into the pillows. She heaved another deep sigh. “It’s like I’ve been chasing after a wall after all this time,” she admitted. “And honestly, it’s getting quite tiring. So if P’Kla doesn’t show any effort or assure me that he has any interest in me, I won’t chase after him either.”

She crossed her arms over her chest with a huff. “Maybe after the baby is born, and Kim and I terminate our marriage…maybe then I will find someone who truly appreciates me for who I am. Someone who will love me with my flaws and still accept me and remind me of how much they care about me every single day.”

“Oh, Phi“I should be the one to say that!” Kanya whispered as she buried her face in Som’s shoulders.

Unbeknownst to either woman, Kla stood outside Kanya’s room, listening to her all this time.
