36: A Familiar Adversary
36: A Familiar Adversary
Kim:The helicopter landed within the perimeters of the Ayutthaya estate, right in the centre of the territory and he helped Kit get off the copter once the blades had settled and his guards had held the door open for them.
Kla and Kaya stood waiting for them to arrive and even from a mile away, Kim could sense the tension between them.
If Kit hadn't already told him about what had happened between his PhiBut now Kim knew that wasn’t the case. So maybe…he could find a way for Kaya and Kla to accept their feelings for each other along with Kit?
Because there was no way he was actually going to listen to Kaya’s insane demands of trying to find a job and moving out. Not under any normal circumstances, and especially not now when there was a madman on the loose who hadn't even thought twice before running off with a Mafia Don’s money and joining hands with the Russian gang for protection.
Kim needed to be very careful about Kit and Kaya’s protection from now on and ensure that there were eyes on them twenty-four-seven.
“Kim!” Kaya came forward to give him a hug, which he gratefully accepted, keeping his injured shoulder out of the way as he bent down to receive her embrace.
“I’m sorry to have worried you.” He whispered into Kaya’s ears before he lifted up to see the tears glistening in her eyes. “Phom okay na“Chan ruter kohok kha“Mai aowjing-jingBut just as the four of them headed to the main building of the Ayutthaya family, Kla stopped Kim with a tab on his shoulders.
Kim looked back at his brother, surprised to find a tense expression on his face. He paused on his way, looking at his brother worriedly. “What’s wrong?”
“Let them go on ahead.” Kla motioned for Kit and Kaya. “We need to talk.”
“Okay.” Kim looked back at Kit and Kaya and motioned for them to continue on their path to the main building.
When Kit gave Kim a worried look, he smiled at him in reassurance, letting him know that everything was indeed ok and that he would follow them soon after. Nodding, Kit left with his sister, while Kla led Kim back to his manor towards the back of the property, away from the main house where they could chat in private.
Kim asked Aawut to head back with Kit and Kaya, and to keep his eyes out for any kind of danger, but he also knew that as long as they were inside the estate, no harm could come to them.
“What is it?” He asked Kla as soon as they stepped inside his study, sans the bodyguards and the doors shut behind them to shroud them in privacy and silence.
“I know about Ayan Ritthirong.” Was the first thing Kla said as he took a seat on the couch and asked Kim to follow suit.
Kim had suspected as much. After all, P’Kla might want to stay away from the Mafia business, but his worry for his brother has made him just as capable of having his own spies in Kim’s business…which Kim was already aware of and perfectly fine with.
“And?” Kim raised his eyes at his brother, wanting to know what exactly his point was going to be.
“And?” P’Kla scoffed, unable to handle Kim’s attitude. “You have a bullet in your chest, Kim! You nearly got shot straight through the heart, all because of that man joining hands with the Russian mob! And all you can say is ‘and’?”
Kim sighed, using his free hand to rub the bridge of his nose while his other hand rested on the sling. “P’Kla…getting shot hasn’t been a new experience for me. Ever since I decided to continue on our father’s legacy…I have always been in danger, be it from family or from foes. You of all people should know that.”
“I do.” P’Kla nodded. “But how do you expect me to sit back and watch you get hurt when I know that Ayan Ritthirong isn't going to sit still unless there’s a bullet in his brain? He fled once more, didn’t he? And mark my words, this won’t be the last time he stirs up trouble for us, for you! He’ll try his best to leech off of his two kids as long as he is alive.”
“And what do you propose we do, P’Kla?” Kim asked with raised eyebrows, wanting Kla to get to the point all along. After all, P’Kla had been the familiar adversary that had stood in the way of him making emotional attachments to anyone, all these years.
It’s not that P’Kla hated the idea of Kim getting close to someone. In fact, it was the opposite. P’Kla was worried not only about Kim but anyone who was ready to form attachments to him, because of the life that Kim had chosen. Because it constantly endangered everyone around him at all times.
Kim used to think that way too, for several long years. And that was one of the reasons why he had never objected to P’Kla giving him relationship advice. But ever since he met Kit…things had changed drastically. And this time, he was ready to fight tooth and nail with his brother to keep the man he was falling for by his side.
“Those two need to go.” Kla said firmly…making Kim burst out laughing.
“Kim!” Kla was enraged to see his brother laughing over such a sensitive matter.
“Karthot, karthotKla sat in stunned silence as he looked at his brother.
Of course he had known that the kid would gossip about him and KhunKla had been struggling with his own feelings about the woman who he had at first considered a gold-digger. He had been keeping a close eye on her ever since, to try and find proof that she was indeed here for their family’s money and that she and her brother didn’t really have any pure motive to be in the family.
But the more he had watched her, the more he had been captivated by her kindness, her beauty. She had slowly taken up the role of a guardian for Som, who was the only female in the family and needed a feminine touch in her life. KhunSlowly, but steadily, she had started to occupy the position in their family that had once been occupied by their mother. And just as surely…Kla had found his heart skipping a beat every time he saw Khun Kanya’s sweet smile and her jovial spirit.
In a moment of weakness, he had given into temptation and kissed her…despite his better judgment. But after knowing about her father’s involvement in Kim’s shooting and with what happened with the Russian Mob, Kla was now extremely wary of what to do next. He had been waging a war with his heart all this time and now, his worry for his own family seemed to have triumphed over his feelings and he knew what to do.
“I had hoped that I could accept my feelings for Khun Kanya, Kim.” Kla sighed now, looking up at his injured brother. The sling on his arm was a reminder that he had just had a close call, and that death could be knocking at his door at any time if the two siblings remained a part of their lives. “But I cannot overlook the fact that their father had been causing you trouble for the longest time now.”
He knew how stubborn his brother could be, that’s why Kla pointed out facts that Kim couldn’t ignore. “From the very first day you met that boy, he had brought you nothing but trouble. First he made you kill those bagmen in front of his apartment, nearly risking a scene with the media and the neighborhood and then he got you into a confrontation with the Channarong family!”
“If you’ve forgotten, Kim, let me remind you, the Ayutthaya and the Channarong family have been enemies for decades! And now the Russian Mob? What’s next Kim? This time, you had a narrow escape with death. But what is to be expected next from that man who seems to have all the luck in the world on his side to have escaped not one, but two very powerful Mafia families?”
Kim listened to his brother’s concerns, knowing the facts already. But was this going to make him back out from loving Kit or helping Kaya? Absolutely not.
“Do you remember what mother used to tell us, PhiBut Kla’s answer took him by surprise as well. “ChaiHowever, before Kim could answer his brother’s questions, the door to his study burst open without a knock and Aawut came running in, gasping to catch his breath. He looked like he had come running all the way from the main house.
“Aawut?” Kim frowned as he got up from the couch. “This better be good.”
“Sir…” Aawut panted, his hands on his knees as he looked up at his masters. “We have trouble.”
“What kind of trouble?” Kim and Kla asked at the same time, both of them instantly alert.
“Its Khun
