Chapter 461 - 429: What are you doing?!
Qiao Yuxian arrived at the West Mountain Manor, took off her mask and gloves, and flipped through the account book.Just as Yuan Wei said, this account book was very much like the one used by a cafeteria auntie to buy groceries.
Everything in it was encrypted, nothing could be deciphered.
Qiao Yuxian put the account book away, placed it in a drawer, and then took out her phone to check it.
Seeing that Gu Yanjing had called her twice, she called him back.
Gu Yanjing answered quickly, "Back home?"
"Hmm?" Qiao Yuxian asked, "Honey, you haven’t gone home yet?"
Gu Yanjing was silent for a moment before answering, "You haven’t gone back either?"
"Yeah." Qiao Yuxian smiled and said, "I just handled something important."
"Was it successful?" Gu Yanjing inferred from her tone.
"Yes." Qiao Yuxian replied, "I’ll go home and share it with you."
"Alright." Gu Yanjing said, "Where are you? Shall I pick you up?"
"No need." Qiao Yuxian said, "I’ll be back in a bit. What about you? It’s so late and you’re not back yet. Have you been drinking?"
"No, I haven’t." Gu Yanjing said, "Huai Shu has some issues, I need to head over."
"Hmm?" Qiao Yuxian took clothes from the cloakroom, preparing to shower, "Do you need any help?"
"No need, I can handle it." Gu Yanjing said.
Hearing his words, Qiao Yuxian was silent for a moment before saying, "From what you said, I feel it’s going to be a lot of trouble for the other party."
Gu Yanjing did not deny it.
Qiao Yuxian said, "Good luck, darling. Stay safe. I’ll head home and wait for you first."
"Alright."
After hanging up the call, Qiao Yuxian took her clothes and went to shower.
Over half an hour later, she came out of the bathroom wearing a robe, her hair half-dried.
Her dewy face was rosy, and her beautiful fox-like eyes were slightly reddened.
The usual obedient demeanor was replaced by an intensified allure.
Qiao Yuxian wandered around the bedroom, then went downstairs to the kitchen for a drink of water.
She intended to drink directly from the tap.
But after filling her glass, just as she was about to drink, she decided to boil some water instead.
Once the water was boiled, she poured herself a cup of warm water, just about to drink, a blast rang out from outside, shaking the kitchen.
Startled, she flinched, spilling some water from her cup.
Qiao Yuxian looked towards where the thunderous explosion came from, gauging the distance—it seemed something had been blasted. She brought the water to her lips again, when another blast resounded.
She flinched again.
Water spilled once more.
Qiao Yuxian’s expression suddenly turned cold.
She glanced towards the kitchen door, drank all the water in one go, slammed the cup on the bar counter, and stormed out of the kitchen.
In the living room, she headed straight for the door.
But after a few steps, she turned and headed upstairs.
She was still in her robe and needed to change.
Yet before she could ascend the stairs, far from them, the living room’s floor-to-ceiling window shattered under a hail of bullets.
With a crashing sound, Qiao Yuxian looked over as several smoke grenades were thrown inside.
Instantly, the entire living room was engulfed in smoke.
Qiao Yuxian quickly lost sight of everything, surrounded by white smoke.
She covered her mouth with one hand, fanning away the smoke with the other, listening to her surroundings as she slowly navigated towards the stairs.
Unable to see, she relied solely on her hearing.
A few seconds later, she deliberately made some noise, quickly drawing someone from the left.
She sensed someone approaching and struck swiftly.
She missed, nearly getting hit herself.
She frowned slightly and attacked again.
This time, she made contact.
The opponent seemed to let her hit them on purpose.
As she connected, they immediately grabbed her wrist with force.
She could clearly feel that they intended to disable her arm.
She struggled free and counterattacked.
Both, unable to see each other, fought based on sound.
Qiao Yuxian could tell the opponent was strong.
But the stronger they were, the more exhilarated she felt.
Qiao Yuxian was grabbed by the arm once more and shook them off again.
Yet as she freed herself, the ring on her ring finger was snagged and pulled off.
Feeling the ring gone, she touched her ring finger, slightly panicked, "Give it back to me!"
She paused, stopped attacking, and so did the other party.
Qiao Yuxian waited a moment, seeing no further action yet unable to see the person.
She became more alert, staying aware, "Are you with Moonlight Vineyard’s people? I just dislocated his arm. Was that enough for you to hold a grudge? Are you trying that hard to disable my arm?"
The opponent remained silent.
Qiao Yuxian waited, then added, "You can take revenge for your friend. We’ll rely on our skills, but give me back the ring first."
The opponent made a move, stepping forward.
Qiao Yuxian waited for them to get close and struck again.
This time the opponent took a solid hit before grabbing her hand.
She instinctively pulled back but suddenly felt the touch was very familiar.
She reacted, then said, "Gu Yanjing?"
"Yes." Gu Yanjing answered.
Qiao Yuxian’s eyes widened in shock.
In an instant, everything became clear to her.
The person competing for the account book was Lin Huai Shu.
The trouble Gu Yanjing mentioned was her.
Gu Yanjing held her hand and led her out of the smoky area.
Outside, where they could see each other, Gu Yanjing looked at Qiao Yuxian now only in her robe.
Qiao Yuxian pulled her robe tighter, looked down and remained silent.
Gu Yanjing noticed her arm, red and swollen.
He frowned, swallowed hard, and grasped Qiao Yuxian’s chin, making her meet his eyes.
Qiao Yuxian’s eyes were rimmed with redness, glanced at him briefly, then looked away again.
Gu Yanjing said, "I’m sorry."
Qiao Yuxian looked back at him, her eyes red, "You hit me."
Gu Yanjing noticed her eyes turn redder, "I’m sorry."
"You hit me." Qiao Yuxian said again.
"I’m sorry." Gu Yanjing repeated.
Qiao Yuxian pouted, "You actually hit me."
Gu Yanjing’s lips moved, but he couldn’t utter a word.
For someone unaccustomed to showing emotions like Mr. Gu, his eyes were brimming with frantic heartache and guilt.
Qiao Yuxian, teary-eyed, looked up at him mournfully.
At this moment, Lin Huai Shu’s voice sounded from a distance, "Yanjing, this place is too big. Did you catch anyone?"
Hearing Lin Huai Shu’s voice, Qiao Yuxian quickly leaned into Gu Yanjing’s arms.
Gu Yanjing instantly held her, enveloping her completely.
"I can’t be seen like this." Qiao Yuxian said softly.
With only a robe on, it was very inconvenient.
Gu Yanjing held her, gently patting her head.
"I circled around with He Shangchen for ages and found nothing, you..." Lin Huai Shu’s voice trailed off when he saw them, then shouted, "What the heck! Gu Yanjing! What are you doing? Who’s that in your arms? What are you doing? How can you face your little sister-in-law like this? Weren’t you coming to get vengeance for me? What exactly are you doing now?! I’m asking what are you doing!"
