Chapter 353 - 325: Eavesdropping
Hotel GardenChu Zhengran came out of the venue, almost circled the entire hotel, and finally heard Qin Xia’s voice in a small ornamental garden behind the hotel on the hillside.
It was almost April, and at night, Chu Zhengran wore a long coat, yet he was sweating.
If he hadn’t asked the Chu Family to confirm that Qin Xia hadn’t left, he would have suspected that Qin Xia had already gone home to sleep.
The ornamental garden on the hillside was full of flowers.
There were flowers that bloomed all year round, as well as those cultivated in a greenhouse.
Few people came at night.
Because at night you couldn’t see the beauty of the flowers, the garden lost its appeal.
So Chu Zhengran was just passing by and didn’t intend to look there.
But as he passed by, he heard Qin Xia’s voice and stopped.
After hearing her speak and realizing there was someone else with her, he didn’t go in but waited outside the garden.
It wasn’t long after Qin Xia finished speaking that he noticed the person with her was Xiao Zhe.
The spot where Chu Zhengran stood was not conducive to hearing Qin Xia clearly.
But after hearing Xiao Zhe’s voice, he quietly moved closer.
He eavesdropped.
Qin Xia and Xiao Zhe were sitting on the steps, surrounded by a pile of beer bottles.
The party over there was almost over.
The two were chatting, bits and pieces for a long time.
They also drank a lot.
Xiao Zhe was sitting beside her, his coat was on her, and there were two cases of unopened beer between them.
They talked for a long time, mostly about past events.
They talked about how they met, about Xiao Zhe’s various investments.
They also talked about the various challenges Qin Xia faced while filming.
Disagreements with the director, not getting along with co-actors, arguments with the screenwriter over drastic changes to the original story.
Many times Qin Xia wanted to quit.
But every time she thought about quitting, she thought about how Xiao Zhe and Qiao Yuxian might lose money, so she forced herself to continue and negotiate with all sides.
Sometimes the pressure was immense.
And to maintain her fame, she had hardly rested over the years.
"You know what? Last year, when I was hospitalized." Qin Xia’s voice carried a hint of drunkenness, smiling as she spoke, "It wasn’t a big deal, just dislocated my arm while hanging on wires. But I insisted and asked the doctor to let me stay in a high-end ward for three days."
"Why?" Xiao Zhe asked.
"Too tired." Qin Xia replied, "I really love being an actress. Before I was hospitalized, I went almost two years without rest, constantly on set. Even when I was sick, I stayed on set. When I’m not on set, I don’t know what to do. It’s like being sick, anxious, nervous, and insomniac."
Xiao Zhe listened to her.
"But then one day I suddenly saw someone. Seeing him, my numb self suddenly woke up." Qin Xia said, "I suddenly felt so tired, as if all my energy was drained away. It was so bad that just seeing the cameras made me tremble uncontrollably, so I could not film. That’s how I accidentally dislocated my arm."
She didn’t say, but Xiao Zhe knew.
The person she saw was likely Chu Zhengran.
No one else could evoke such a reaction from her.
"So, to hide and recover, I forced myself to stay in the hospital for three days," Xiao Zhe said.
"Yes." Qin Xia said, "During those three days, I only ate two meals. The rest of the time was spent sleeping."
"Exhausted to that extent, you allowed yourself only three days of rest." Xiao Zhe said.
"Couldn’t help it. Any more days and the crew would lose money." Qin Xia said with a smile, "I had to force myself to recover quickly."
Xiao Zhe didn’t speak.
Qin Xia clinked her beer with his, then tilted her head back and drank it all, tossing it aside before grabbing a new one.
"Don’t drink anymore." Xiao Zhe said, "You’ve had too much."
"It’s fine, I handle alcohol well." Qin Xia said, "I’m happy today, so I’ll drink a bit more."
Xiao Zhe looked at her profile, at the smile on her face that never faded, and after a while, he said, "It’s because you’re sad, isn’t it."
The smile on Qin Xia’s face paused for a moment, then she smiled again and said, "Happy or sad, it’s all the same."
Xiao Zhe didn’t say anything more.
Qin Xia opened a new can, took a sip, and said, "Xiao Zhe, stop wasting time on me."
Xiao Zhe looked at her.
Qin Xia turned her head to look at him too.
Her face was flushed from drinking, and her eyes were somewhat blurry.
Xiao Zhe looked at her, clenched his fingertips, then shifted his gaze to the distance and said, "You still can’t let go of the person in your heart?"
Chu Zhengran, standing behind the wall, heard this and his fingertips trembled.
Qin Xia didn’t speak.
Xiao Zhe said, "You know, I don’t mind."
Qin Xia shook her head, "It’s unethical for me to marry you while having someone else in my heart. It’s also unfair to you. Your heart is with me, but my heart is with someone else. I can’t reciprocate your feelings."
Her words were slow, with occasional pauses, each word carefully enunciated.
She was a little drunk.
"I don’t care." Xiao Zhe said, "I just want you by my side."
Eavesdropping, Chu Zhengran narrowed his eyes, exuding a slight threatening air.
"You don’t care now." Qin Xia extended a finger, put it in front of her, and then retracted it, thinking it was unnecessary, "But as time goes by, living together with a rift between us, how can we always live harmoniously?"
Xiao Zhe wanted to say more.
Qin Xia extended her hand to stop him. Then she said, "You know, my personality doesn’t match well with your mother’s. Your mother doesn’t like me."
Qin Xia had met Xiao Zhe’s mother.
She had mentioned this to Xiao Zhe before.
Xiao Zhe didn’t say anything.
"Parents are the most important people in everyone’s heart." Qin Xia took another sip of beer, "Compared to parents, anyone else pales in comparison. I totally understand choosing parents first in any situation. Really, I totally get it."
Xiao Zhe still didn’t speak.
He knew in his heart.
He couldn’t convince his mother, he had no way to deal with her.
Unless he found a partner by his mother’s standards, things would repeat.
"But Chu Zhengran’s mother doesn’t approve of you two being together either." Xiao Zhe said.
Upon suddenly hearing that name, Qin Xia’s expression stiffened. She tilted her head back, took several gulps of beer, her voice hoarse, "Yes, so I plan to look forward, spend some time forgetting the person in my heart, and then find a boyfriend."
Qin Xia joked with a smile, "I can’t avoid falling into your pit and then just turn around and jump into his, can I?"
"Still looking for someone who looks like Chu Zhengran?" Xiao Zhe joked halfway.
"Of course not." Qin Xia said, "I’m serious this time, really planning to move forward. Forget him, throw him out of my heart, and never want him again. Then find someone to marry, have a child. I actually do like kids a lot."
Xiao Zhe looked at her smiling face.
The more she smiled, the more it broke one’s heart.
Qin Xia muttered again, "I really do like kids."
