Chapter 241: Who’s Pursuing You, Rachel?

After a moment’s thought, Florence Preston decided to call Peter Preston.

Since Desmond Howard had managed to find his way directly to the villa, he must already know the location of Peter Preston’s company.

She had to warn him to be on his guard.

Peter Preston was shocked when he received his mother’s call.

"Mom, you don’t need to worry. I’ll handle his affairs. Just in case, have Zachary Dudley go with you when you leave the house." "Okay. And about your uncle... Whether it’s Desmond Howard or your uncle’s side, it’s clear someone is deliberately targeting me." Peter Preston frowned. "Who?" Florence Preston let out a breath. "Besides Mrs. Ainsworth, I can’t think of anyone else." She was just a housewife with a simple social circle. Who could she have possibly offended? Who else could it be but Jane Sullivan?

This was surely revenge for the humiliation she had dished out the other day.

"Why would she target you, Mom? What’s your connection to her?" Florence Preston explained the situation to her son, telling him the truth. "She’s Mr. Royce’s ex-wife. Rachel’s biological mother."

Upon hearing this,

Peter Preston froze, stunned.

He suddenly thought of Alexander Sullivan.

He knew a little about Alexander Sullivan’s internal power struggle at MK. Alexander wasn’t a child of the Ainsworth Family; he was the son of Mrs. Ainsworth, the chairman’s wife.

He also knew that when Mr. Royce and his ex-wife had divorced, she had taken Rachel’s older brother with her, while Rachel had stayed with Mr. Royce.

Connecting all the pieces,

it meant Alexander Sullivan was Rachel’s brother.

He recalled how Vanguard had acquired Mr. Royce’s company five years ago. The acquirer had been none other than Mr. Royce’s own son, a move that nearly plunged his father’s company into crisis.

A half-sister had meddled in her own biological sister’s marriage, standing by and watching as Tristan Sterling subjected Rachel to such humiliating treatment in the past.

How ironic it all seemed.

Perhaps after so many years apart,

Rachel no longer held a place in her brother’s heart; there was only room for his other sister.

And now, Rachel’s own mother was so willing to tarnish her older daughter’s reputation for the sake of her younger one. It was truly pathetic and absurd.

He had long ago seen through the fact that not all parents in this world cherished their children.

His heart ached for Rachel.

"So, does Mr. Royce know what Mrs. Ainsworth has been doing to Rachel?"

Florence Preston sighed. "I haven’t mentioned it to him." Now that she had seen Jane Sullivan in person, she finally understood why Johnson Royce had never been able to forget her.

Given Johnson Royce’s current attitude toward Jane Sullivan, even if he found out, he probably wouldn’t be able to take a hard line with her. The most he could do was sulk about it on his own.

Peter Preston said, "Then don’t tell Rachel, either, to spare her the pain. I’ll resolve the matter with our uncle." "Okay, I won’t tell Rachel. I can’t imagine how heartbroken she would be if she found out her own mother was doing this to her." Florence recalled how, back then, Rachel would call for her mother and brother in her sleep. She had been fiercely resistant to any woman who got close to Johnson Royce, wanting only her mother.

Yet now, that same mother was doing this to her.

Florence Preston’s eyes grew red with sorrow for the girl.

After hanging up with his mother,

Peter Preston sat in his office chair, composing himself.

He picked up his phone and called Rachel Royce.

After a moment,

the call connected.

"Peter, what’s up?" He could hear she was in a hurry.

"Are you busy at work?" He had arrived at the office early that day and hadn’t eaten breakfast with them, so he didn’t realize Rachel was dealing with something urgent.

"Yeah, I’m in a meeting."

Peter Preston said, "Sorry to bother you. Go on with your work."

"Okay, I’ll call you back later."

Rachel Royce hung up and returned to the conference room to continue the meeting.

Peter Preston contacted his uncle.

「Around ten o’clock.」

He received an internal call from the company’s front desk.

"President Preston, there’s a man here who claims to be your father who wants to see you. He says his name is Desmond Howard."

Peter Preston’s face fell. He had certainly arrived quickly. This confirmed that they had been thoroughly investigated; a simple idler like him wouldn’t have this kind of ability.

"Have him wait downstairs."

「In the conference room.」

A company involved in a merger and acquisition case that Rachel Royce’s team had been handling suddenly sent representatives over, announcing they wanted to cancel the deal.

The reason they gave was a decision to terminate based on dual considerations of market changes and strategic adjustments.

However, Rachel and Joanna Sutton had already done their due diligence, and the merger and restructuring were perfectly aligned with the other company’s future interests.

No matter how Rachel tried to negotiate, the other party was resolute in their decision to terminate. They assured her that all related expenses incurred would be paid in full to Rowan.

This went on until twelve noon.

Rachel saw them off downstairs.

Watching the car drive away, Joanna Sutton said, "I can’t imagine anyone else giving them a more thorough proposal than ours."

By the end of the negotiation, both sides knew what was really going on.

The other company had simply found a better partner.

Rachel let out a breath and instructed Marcus Sheldon, who was standing beside her, "Go find out who the people at Norvane have been in contact with recently."

"Yes, ma’am," Marcus Sheldon replied.

As they turned to head back,

they happened to see a uniformed hotel employee walking toward the company’s front desk, carrying an insulated bag and a bouquet of roses.

The bright red roses were incredibly eye-catching.

Rachel and Joanna Sutton couldn’t help but glance in the employee’s direction.

Joanna Sutton wondered aloud, "Which rich heir is making a grand confession now?"

That particular brand of roses started at a five-figure price tag, and the employee’s uniform and the logo on the delivery bag were from a luxury hotel.

It wasn’t uncommon for wealthy heirs to pursue female employees at their company.

So Joanna Sutton didn’t find it particularly strange.

The employee reached the front desk.

The three of them headed toward the elevators.

Just as they were passing through the security gates,

they heard the receptionist call out, "Evelynn!"

Rachel Royce stopped in her tracks.

The hotel employee walked over to them.

Seeing this,

Rachel’s gaze darkened. The moment she’d seen the hotel employee, she’d had an inexplicable feeling.

Just as she’d suspected.

"Miss Evelynn, these flowers are from Mr. Sterling. He also had this lunch prepared for you. Shall I bring it upstairs for you?"

At these words,

Joanna Sutton looked at Rachel in shock.

Rachel refused. "That won’t be necessary. Please take it back."

Hearing her refusal,

The employee froze, looking troubled. "But Mr. Sterling specifically instructed that I must deliver it into your hands."

Joanna Sutton griped, "Is Tristan Sterling sick in the head? What is wrong with him?"

"Well, well, who sent these roses?" Ian Quinn’s voice came from behind them.

Julian Jennings and Ian Quinn were walking out from the security gates.

"President Jennings, President Quinn," Marcus Sheldon said respectfully.

The two men nodded slightly and walked over to Rachel. Ian Quinn smiled and asked, "Who’s this pursuing you, Rachel?"

Joanna Sutton replied, "They’re from that scumbag Tristan Sterling."

Ian Quinn’s eyes widened in shock. "Tristan Sterling? Did hell freeze over?"

Julian Jennings’s gaze rested on Rachel.
