Chapter 237: If You’re Not Capable, Then Suffer
Tristan Sterling grabbed Rachel Royce’s arm.
Rachel Royce froze.
Just then, two employees who were getting off work greeted Rachel. "Evelynn!" Rachel forcefully yanked her arm back.
The two employees recognized Tristan Sterling and greeted him politely, "President Sterling." Tristan gave a slight nod in response.
"Thank you for the late-night snack tonight, Evelynn. It was delicious." Rachel had just had her assistant pass it out to everyone else.
She only offered a faint smile in reply. "It’s getting late. You two should head home." "Okay." The two employees wondered why President Sterling was waiting for Evelynn here so late, but they naturally didn’t dare to pry.
They said their goodbyes and left.
"You didn’t eat the snack?" Tristan Sterling asked.
Rachel shot him a glare and strode away.
This time, Tristan Sterling didn’t block her path.
It wasn’t until Rachel reached her car that she stopped abruptly, turning to look at the man following her. "Tristan Sterling, are you sick in the head? Why are you following me?"
Tristan Sterling’s voice was calm as he said, "I happen to be hungry too. Let’s go get something to eat together."
Rachel frowned. "Tristan Sterling, can you not understand plain English? Why on earth would I go eat with you?"
The man completely ignored her and said, "If you don’t want to drive, we can take my car."
Rachel: "..." She let out a long breath and took out her phone to call the police.
"Hello, someone has been following me. Could you please come and handle this as soon as possible?" Fortunately, there was a police station near the company.
The police were dispatched in less than ten minutes, arriving remarkably quickly.
But when they saw the so-called stalker, the officers were stunned.
"Officer, I don’t know him at all. I’m trying to go home, and he keeps following me," Rachel said.
The officer looked at Tristan Sterling and asked, "Sir, why are you following this woman?" No matter how you looked at him, the man before them didn’t seem like a stalker. It was more believable that women would be stalking him.
Tristan Sterling took out his phone, pulled up a photo, and showed it to the officer, explaining, "This is our daughter."
The officer was surprised again. He took the phone for a look, glanced at the photo, and then at Rachel.
"Ma’am, is this you in the photo?" Rachel saw that it was the picture of her, Tristan, and Melissa taken at Disney.
She took a deep breath. "I’m in the process of divorcing him. He’s been following me, and it’s causing me a great deal of distress."
Tristan Sterling said, "Officer, this is a matter between us. We’ll resolve it ourselves. Thank you for your trouble." At this point, it was obvious what was going on. It was just a couple having a fight.
"Your child is so cute. Whatever conflicts you have as a couple, you should talk them out properly."
Tristan Sterling nodded slightly and took back his phone from the officer.
Rachel’s face was grim. Seizing the opportunity while Tristan was talking to the police, she turned and strode out of the company’s main entrance, got into her car, and immediately locked the doors.
As she drove away, she saw the man standing on the steps, facing the cold wind.
Tristan Sterling watched Rachel drive off. Soon, his driver pulled the car up in front of him, and he got in.
Rachel drove to the restaurant, though she was already so angry she felt full.
When she arrived at the restaurant,
Rachel parked the car.
After composing herself, she opened the door and got out.
Julian Jennings had already arrived at the restaurant and was waiting for her.
"Sorry, I’m late." "No problem, I just got here myself. Let’s order first. See what you’d like to eat."
Rachel ordered two dishes.
When Rachel returned home that evening,
Florence Preston was waiting for her in the living room.
"Mom." "Rachel, you’re back."
Florence Preston had the housekeeper bring over the stewed bird’s nest soup.
Rachel sat beside Florence, linking arms with her and leaning against her coquettishly. "Thanks, Mom."
"You silly child, no need for such formalities with me."
Rachel smiled, her eyes crinkling. "Mom still dotes on me the most."
The housekeeper brought over the bird’s nest soup.
Florence asked her about what had happened online that day. Although the rumors had been taken down quickly, she had still seen the news reports.
Rachel didn’t want Florence and the others to worry, but since she had asked,
Rachel had no choice but to explain.
As Florence listened, her expression instantly soured. When she had seen the news, she had already guessed that someone was deliberately setting up Thomas.
"For this to blow up online, who exactly is behind this, trying to frame you and Thomas?"
Rachel said, "Claire Ainsworth’s mother."
Hearing this,
Florence’s expression changed abruptly. Her eyes filled with anger, and also a sense of tragic absurdity.
’How could she do something like this to her own daughter?’
Rachel, not noticing the emotion in Florence’s eyes at that moment, said, "She probably wants to ruin my reputation so that Tristan Sterling will divorce me."
Florence scoffed coldly. "Doesn’t Mrs. Ainsworth know what kind of character her own daughter has? And she still wants to marry into the Sterling family? In that case, Rachel, don’t go through with this divorce just yet. I want to see if we can anger that mother-daughter pair to death first."
Seeing how angry Florence was, Rachel reached out, took her mother’s arm, and comforted her, saying it wasn’t worth getting angry over people like that.
The two chatted for a while.
"Alright, you should go back to your room and rest early."
Rachel returned to her room.
Florence stormed back to the bedroom.
Johnson Royce was lying in bed, helping his son fall asleep. Hearing the commotion, he quickly covered Bobby’s ears. Seeing Florence’s furious demeanor, he was so scared that he immediately started racking his brain, wondering what he had said or done today to make her so angry.
"Honey, what... what’s wrong?"
"Where’s your phone?"
Johnson Royce scrambled to sit up, stammering, "Ph... phone... Mine?"
Florence strode forward, snatched Johnson Royce’s phone from the nightstand, and went straight to the study.
She unblocked Jane Sullivan from his contact list.
Then she immediately dialed her number.
Jane Sullivan saw the call was from Johnson Royce and answered it.
"Hello!"
"Jane Sullivan."
Hearing this, Jane Sullivan’s face instantly turned cold. Nowadays, no one dared to address her so directly by her full name.
"What is it?"
"I’m just asking you, do you even deserve to be a mother? Huh? What kind of cruel, malicious woman could do something like this to her own daughter?"
"It was bad enough that you abandoned her back then, but now you’re even trying to ruin her reputation! How could Rachel have such a vicious mother like you?"
"Your own daughter can’t even lock down a man after all these years. She’s so stupid, she might as well just go and bash her head against a wall and die."
"Have you said enough?" Jane Sullivan said furiously.
"Said enough? I could curse you for three days and three nights and it wouldn’t be enough! You want your daughter to take her place? Well, let me tell you something today: we’re not getting this divorce anymore! I want to see if we can anger you to death first! If you’ve got what it takes, go make Tristan Sterling divorce Rachel. If you don’t, then you’ll just have to suffer!"
Florence hung up the phone.
She let out a long breath. After venting her anger, she felt a little better.
「On the other end.」
Jane Sullivan was so furious her face turned pale. No one had ever dared to be so disrespectful to her. In her rage, she threw her phone.
