Chapter 214: How Could You Tell I Was Getting Ahead of Myself?
Rachel Royce was wearing a white coat today. Her long hair was down, strands fluttering gently in the wind, and a pearl headband adorned her head. Her fair, delicate face seemed even more lovely and beautiful than the fresh flowers in her arms.
She stood there quietly, her gentle and serene aura making it hard for anyone to look away.
Tristan Sterling watched her with his deep, dark eyes. Alexander Sullivan, who was beside him, was about to say something, but the man had already strode toward Rachel Royce on his long legs.
Tristan Sterling stood in front of Rachel Royce and reached out, pulling one of her hands toward him.
Rachel Royce was stunned. "You..."
The man took a purple bracelet from his pocket and slipped it onto her wrist.
Its texture was as smooth as fine jade, a high-transparency glassy type that gleamed even under the gloomy sky. A single glance was enough to tell it was incredibly valuable.
For a moment, Rachel Royce found herself lost in its purple halo.
She heard the man ask, "Do you like it?"
Rachel Royce snapped back to reality, pulled her hand back, and looked up at him. "You didn’t have to be so serious about this," she said coolly. "Even if you just told Melissa you gave me a gift, I wouldn’t have exposed you."
Tristan Sterling’s brow twitched almost imperceptibly. "Who knows if you’d go tattling to Melissa?"
’What does he mean by that?’
’Does he think I’m the type of person to drive a wedge between him and Melissa?’
Rachel Royce lowered her gaze, deciding not to bother with him.
Tristan Sterling watched her as she stood motionless, clutching the flowers.
The air fell into a brief silence.
Seeing that the man in front of her had no intention of leaving, Rachel Royce couldn’t help but look up at him and ask, perplexed, "Aren’t you leaving?"
Just as she finished speaking,
a voice called from ahead, "Rachel."
Rachel Royce angled her body to the side and saw Julian Jennings walking out of the airport terminal. She paid the other man no further mind, naturally missing the dark expression that fell over his face.
Clutching the flowers, she strode toward Julian Jennings with a gentle smile and presented the bouquet to him with both hands. "Professor, congratulations."
Julian Jennings took them with both hands, smiled, and said, "Thank you."
"Let’s get in the car first!"
Julian Jennings hummed in agreement.
When Rachel Royce turned back, she saw that the other man had already gotten into a different car. She actually let out a sigh of relief.
Miles Sheldon put the suitcase in the trunk, then got into the driver’s seat and started the car.
The Rolls-Royce in front of them slowly pulled away.
Inside the car.
The atmosphere was heavy.
Alexander Sullivan looked at him and couldn’t help but tease, "Did you think she was here to give you flowers?"
When he saw Rachel Royce standing there, his first instinct was that the flowers weren’t for Tristan Sterling.
He had no idea why Tristan would think they were for him.
Tristan Sterling gazed out the window, his handsome face cold and somber. He didn’t respond.
"This is really the first time I’ve seen you get ahead of yourself like this."
As soon as the words were out,
Tristan Sterling’s expression darkened even more. He turned to look at Alexander Sullivan, his voice low and cold. "How could you tell I was getting ahead of myself?"
Alexander Sullivan chuckled. "Fine, I was wrong. You gave her an expensive bracelet, and she wouldn’t even give you a single flower."
Tristan Sterling: "..."
Alexander Sullivan shrugged and said no more.
In the other car.
Julian Jennings explained the situation to Rachel Royce in detail.
Tristan Sterling wasn’t sincerely cooperating with Zion Alden; he had even set a trap for him. In the end, Zion Alden was the only one who suffered devastating losses.
For the next year or two, at least, Zion Alden wouldn’t be able to act so arrogantly.
Rachel Royce said, "A man like Tristan Sterling really isn’t someone you should get deeply involved with."
He and Zion Alden are both the type to do anything for profit. This time, they were scheming against each other, but Zion Alden was clearly no match for Tristan Sterling.
"Oh, right, Professor, your injury?" Rachel Royce suddenly asked.
Julian Jennings replied, "It’s fine now. Don’t worry."
"That’s good."
Julian Jennings noticed the bracelet on her wrist. "The bracelet is very pretty."
Only then did Rachel Royce remember it. She took the bracelet off and said, "It should fetch a good price, then!"
Julian Jennings said, "At this quality, it could sell for at least ten million."
Rachel Royce was taken aback. Tristan Sterling was quite generous. ’Still,’ she thought, ’compared to the black card he gave directly to Claire Ainsworth, this is nothing.’
She sneered inwardly.
’The bracelet is beautiful, but looking at it is unsettling. I should find some time to mail it back to him.’
A little over an hour later.
Rachel Royce returned to her company.
Miles Sheldon drove her car to take Julian Jennings home.
On the way back.
Julian Jennings called June Jennings. "Rachel said you had an upset stomach?"
June Jennings was lounging on the sofa, leisurely eating fruit. "What upset stomach? I just made up an excuse. It was all to give you a surprise, Bro."
Julian Jennings had already guessed as much.
"So, Bro, have you and Rachel parted ways for now?"
"Yeah, she went back to her company. I’m heading home now."
"Oh," June Jennings said.
After returning to her office, Rachel Royce received a call from Melissa. "Aunt Evelynn, weren’t you supposed to pick up Daddy from the airport today?"
Rachel Royce froze for a second, her brow furrowing.
’So he’s the one who tattles after all.’
For a moment, she wasn’t sure how to explain it to Melissa.
"Melissa, Aunt Evelynn had promised my friend something. It’s my fault for not making it clear to you. I’m sorry."
Melissa sounded disappointed. "Okay, then! Daddy said he gave Aunt Evelynn a present. Can Aunt Evelynn give Daddy a bouquet of flowers?"
Rachel Royce hesitated, but could only agree for the time being.
That evening.
Ian Quinn organized a dinner to welcome Julian Jennings back.
The profits from the fund project they had wrested from Zion Alden were a pleasant surprise. Not only did it expand their market and solidify certain connections, but the gains also completely covered Eastgate’s previous losses, with some left over.
"It’s just a shame we couldn’t drag Tristan Sterling down with it. As expected, he’s not just your average shrewd and calculating person," Ian Quinn sighed.
"Can’t anyone make him bleed for once?"
She had only just found out that Zion Alden was out of prison. But seeing that Rachel was all right now was a relief. Knowing that Zion Alden had suffered a major loss this time certainly made her feel gratified.
"Now that won’t be easy," Ian Quinn said with a laugh.
Joanna Sutton said, "If Alexander Sullivan could be turned to backstab him, that would probably be enough to make him suffer."
Ian Quinn retorted, "Those two are thick as thieves right now. It’s a shame you didn’t marry into the family back then. If you had married Alexander Sullivan and become Mrs. Sullivan, you could have whispered in his ear at night... Aigh."
Joanna Sutton stomped hard on his foot and shot him a glare. "Who would want that!"
"In that case, if he refuses to divorce, won’t it be very difficult for Rachel to leave him?" June Jennings pouted.
A man with such a calculating mind is terrifying. Even Zion Alden was no match for his schemes; Ivan Alden isn’t even worthy of carrying his shoes.
Then there’s no way Rachel could be his opponent.
Hearing this, Rachel Royce’s heart sank. She had originally planned to use the trip to the United States to deal with the equity matter as a way to avoid Tristan Sterling, hoping his attitude toward her would gradually cool down. She never expected so many other things to happen that would bring them into contact again.
Joanna Sutton said, "Claire Ainsworth is an idiot, too. After all this time, she still hasn’t managed to get pregnant and secure her position."
June Jennings said with disdain, "I think she’s just a brainless vase. Besides her face, she’s got nothing. She’s just someone for men to play with."
Rachel Royce interrupted, "Alright, it’s such a nice day today. Let’s not talk about such unpleasant people and things."
