Chapter 212: Learn How to Behave with Your Tail Between Your Legs
"Is your hand badly injured?" Julian Jennings asked.
Thomas Sterling said, "It’s fine. Just a superficial wound."
"As long as you’re okay."
Rachel Royce asked, "Professor, how is your work progressing?"
Julian Jennings said, "Don’t worry, I have it under control. You and Thomas can just head back to the country tomorrow without any worries."
Rachel Royce nodded. "Okay."
「The next day at 8:00 AM.」
Rachel Royce and Thomas Sterling were all packed.
Miles Sheldon loaded their luggage into the trunk.
Then Julian Jennings went with them to see them off at the airport.
"Be careful on your way, and message me when you land," Julian Jennings said.
Rachel Royce hummed in agreement and said, "Professor, you have to stay safe. Please don’t let anything happen to you."
Julian Jennings’s lips curved into a smile as he reassured her, "Mhm, nothing will happen. Just go back and don’t worry."
Thomas Sterling also urged him to be careful.
Just as Rachel Royce was pushing her luggage cart to leave, she saw someone walking toward them. Thomas Sterling stared at the man.
Julian Jennings turned to look, his gaze instantly turning cold and stern.
Zion Alden walked straight up to them. His eyes fell on Rachel Royce as he said, "Heading back to your country, are you? I came specially to see you off, Evelynn. I hope we can meet again next time."
Rachel Royce said, "The next time I hear your name, I’d rather it be news that you’ve died without a place to be buried."
Zion Alden chuckled. "Evelynn, don’t be so heartless. I haven’t even had you yet. How could I possibly die?"
Hearing this, Thomas Sterling couldn’t stop himself from stepping forward, looking like he was about to start another fight.
Julian Jennings spoke up, "Young Master Alden, I’m surprised you’re still in the mood to be standing here."
Zion Alden’s expression tightened slightly. He looked at Julian Jennings and said, "Mr. Jennings, what do you mean by that?"
Julian Jennings didn’t answer him. Instead, he said to Rachel Royce and Thomas Sterling, "Go to your gate."
Rachel Royce and Thomas Sterling turned and left with their luggage.
Only after the two of them were far in the distance did Julian Jennings and Miles Sheldon leave.
Zion Alden stared at Julian Jennings’s departing back. Just then, his phone vibrated. He picked it up and answered, "Father."
It was unclear what the person on the other end said.
Zion Alden’s expression changed abruptly.
He stared at Julian Jennings’s retreating figure, his dark eyes growing colder and colder.
「Back in the car.」
Ivan Alden called. That morning, the tech stocks held by the Aldens had plummeted by more than twenty percent, and a scandal had broken out in one of their subsidiary companies. It was already all over major media outlets, and reporters were swarming the company building.
"Was it Tristan Sterling’s doing?"
Zion Alden said, "No."
"Julian Jennings?"
Zion Alden’s voice was icy, laced with hostility. "I really underestimated him."
Ivan Alden was silent for a moment, then asked, "Didn’t you say you wanted to confirm Tristan Sterling’s attitude toward Evelynn?"
A cold light glinted in Zion Alden’s dark, gloomy eyes. The corners of his mouth lifted into a sinister smile as he said, "I already know."
「A thirteen-hour flight.」
They landed late at night.
Rachel Royce sent a message to Julian Jennings.
She and Thomas Sterling stayed the night at a hotel near the airport.
The next day, they took a taxi home.
Johnson Royce and Florence Preston were finally relieved to see the two of them back. Florence Preston hugged Rachel Royce and couldn’t help but cry for a while.
"Mom, what are you doing? I just went to handle some work. Didn’t I tell you I’d be back?"
Florence Preston tried her best to control her emotions. "Okay, it’s good that you’re back. It’s good that you’re back. Look at you, you’ve gotten so thin again. Thomas, too. You both need to eat well and recover."
「That evening.」
Peter Preston came home, and everyone had a good meal together.
Knowing that Thomas Sterling was injured, they asked him what had happened.
Thomas Sterling just said he’d been careless. Of course, Peter Preston knew he wasn’t telling the truth, but it wasn’t the right time to press for more details.
「At the dinner table.」
Rachel Royce mainly told them about the successful transfer of the company’s shares. As for everything else, she didn’t mention it.
"Good, good. You only have so much energy. From now on, just stay and develop your career in the country," Florence Preston said, her heart finally at ease.
Peter Preston agreed. He didn’t want Rachel Royce to be too tired either.
「For the next three days.」
Rachel Royce rested at home and adjusted to the time difference. She kept an eye on the news from New York’s financial circles and occasionally contacted Julian Jennings.
Thomas Sterling, however, couldn’t rest properly. Having been abroad for so long, a lot of business was waiting for him at the company.
Rachel Royce was in charge of bringing him lunch at the office every day, which always consisted of nourishing soups Florence Preston specially made for him. After a few days of this care, Thomas Sterling had clearly recovered a great deal. His arm could write documents normally, but he still couldn’t lift heavy objects.
When Joanna Sutton and June Jennings heard she was back, they came to her house to see her. Seeing that Rachel Royce was safe and sound, June Jennings was completely relieved.
「One day.」
Rachel Royce accompanied Thomas Sterling to the hospital for a follow-up checkup.
As they walked into the hospital’s outpatient lobby, they ran into two people walking toward them.
Rachel Royce couldn’t help but frown. ’Evelyn Fitzwilliam and Claire Ainsworth’s mother... why are they together?’ But on second thought, ’Mrs. Ainsworth is good friends with Sylvia Shannon, so it’s not that strange for her to be with Evelyn Fitzwilliam.’
When Jane Sullivan saw Rachel Royce, her gaze lingered on her for an extra moment, but she quickly looked away as if nothing had happened.
Thomas Sterling walked up quickly. "Mom, what are you doing at the hospital?"
Evelyn Fitzwilliam looked at her son, then glanced at Rachel Royce. "I’m fine, Mom’s just accompanying someone. Is your arm still not healed?"
After returning to the country, Thomas Sterling had made a trip home.
Evelyn Fitzwilliam knew he had been injured.
"It’s almost healed. I just came to the hospital for another checkup today."
Rachel Royce walked over and addressed Evelyn Fitzwilliam, "Auntie."
Evelyn Fitzwilliam gave a slight nod.
"So this is Evelyn’s younger son. He’s certainly a fine young man," Jane Sullivan said with a complimentary smile.
Thomas Sterling looked at Jane Sullivan.
Evelyn Fitzwilliam introduced her, "This is the wife of Chairman Ainsworth of MK Group."
The moment Thomas Sterling heard this, he instantly understood something. His eyes darkened a few shades as he said directly, "I wonder if Mrs. Ainsworth knows that her daughter is meddling in someone else’s marriage?"
The words stunned even Rachel Royce.
Jane Sullivan’s face stiffened.
Evelyn Fitzwilliam said, "Thomas, what are you talking about?"
Thomas Sterling didn’t answer his mother. He continued, "Miss Ainsworth’s character is truly unimpressive. Since she’s already decided to be a third party, Mrs. Ainsworth should teach her how to behave with her tail between her legs."
"Thomas!"
"Mom, I’m going to my checkup first. I won’t disturb you any longer." Then he said to Rachel Royce, "Rachel, let’s go!"
Thomas Sterling strode away. Rachel Royce gave a slight nod to Evelyn Fitzwilliam and followed him.
Jane Sullivan remained standing there, her expression utterly awful.
Evelyn Fitzwilliam looked at her. "Jane, are you alright?"
Of course, Evelyn Fitzwilliam already knew about Tristan Sterling and Claire Ainsworth. Jane Sullivan simply wanted Claire to become the legitimate young mistress of the Sterling Family.
But the fact that Tristan Sterling and Rachel Royce hadn’t divorced yet was actually quite surprising to her.
Tristan Sterling, who had always been aloof and arrogant, a man used to being superior and controlling everything, was now facing a situation where the most important thing in his life—his marriage—was not in his hands.
That was why he detested Rachel Royce. The fact they weren’t divorced yet was very likely because of Melissa.
Not even Sylvia Shannon could interfere in his marriage and relationships, so it was even less her place, as his aunt, to pass judgment.
