Chapter 208: Nobody Wants Your Man

「Two days later.」

Julian Jennings and Rachel Royce attended a seminar at Stanford University.

Many big shots in the industry were present.

David was there as well.

After the seminar ended,

Professor Michael took the initiative to introduce Julian Jennings to people.

David found Rachel Royce. "Evelynn, how have you been lately?"

She had been busy lately, so it was true they hadn’t had a chance to meet.

"Pretty busy."

"Sigh, I was so looking forward to you finally coming to New York, but we haven’t even had a chance to meet."

Rachel Royce smiled. "Well, aren’t we meeting now?"

David smiled, pursing his lips. He glanced in Julian Jennings’s direction before reminding her, "About this DF Fund business, Evelynn, it’s better if you don’t get involved. This is their war. It has nothing to do with you."

Rachel Royce said, "I’m not getting involved. It’s just that the professor’s hand isn’t doing too well right now, so I’m just helping him organize some data analysis materials."

David nodded. "Is the follow-up work for the stock transfer finished?"

"Yes, it’s all been taken care of."

During this period, Tristan Sterling hadn’t deliberately caused any trouble, so everything went smoothly. From now on, KU had nothing to do with her anymore.

"When do you plan on returning to your country?"

’Tristan Sterling had given her five days, and he didn’t seem to be joking at all.’

Julian’s advice was also for her and Thomas Sterling to return home as soon as possible. Thomas also had work to handle back home, so they had booked a flight for three days from now.

Rachel Royce told David.

David sighed. "It feels like you just got here. Our relationship hasn’t made any progress, and now you’re leaving again."

Rachel Royce couldn’t help but chuckle. "You should probably stop making jokes like that in the future."

’She’d been here for almost a month. Time really flew by.’

"Well, since you’re about to leave, treating me to dinner tonight isn’t too much to ask, is it?"

Rachel Royce smiled faintly. "Of course not."

The seminar lasted until five in the afternoon.

Julian Jennings had a dinner engagement that evening, so it was the perfect opportunity for Rachel Royce to treat David to dinner. She owed him a big thank you for his help with the stock transfer.

Rachel Royce booked a table at the oldest and most expensive restaurant in all of New York.

David drove to the restaurant.

After he parked the car,

The two of them got out and walked toward the restaurant.

Just then,

a familiar figure stood near the entrance.

Rachel Royce paused in her steps.

Immediately after, a car slowly pulled up in front of him. A delicate and beautiful figure emerged from within. The man was visibly stunned when he saw her.

Claire Ainsworth threw herself directly into the man’s arms, hugging him tightly. "Tristan, I’ve missed you so much."

Tristan Sterling glanced at Alexander Sullivan, who had followed her out of the car.

Alexander Sullivan looked at Tristan Sterling and said, "Claire said she wanted to give you a surprise."

Tristan Sterling didn’t say anything more. He placed a large hand on the woman’s shoulder and said, "Alright, Claire, let’s go inside first."

Claire Ainsworth pulled away from his embrace, took Tristan Sterling’s arm, and held on tightly, saying joyfully, "Okay."

As Tristan Sterling turned to enter, his gaze fell upon David and Rachel Royce, who were standing not far to the side.

When David saw him, he gave him a wave.

Alexander and Claire saw the two of them.

The moment Claire Ainsworth saw Rachel Royce, her expression immediately darkened.

’What a rotten coincidence. Why is she in New York too?’

David walked up and greeted them amicably.

"What a coincidence, Tristan. You’re eating here too."

Tristan Sterling looked at Rachel Royce, but she didn’t look back at him.

"Alexander, long time no see."

Alexander Sullivan pulled his gaze away from Rachel Royce and looked at David. "Long time no see."

David then looked at Claire Ainsworth, who was clinging to Tristan Sterling’s arm. He had seen with perfect clarity the cold, sinister look she’d given Evelynn just a moment ago.

’He’d seen plenty of women like her—just pretty vases who needed a man’s doting.’

’He never realized before that Claire Ainsworth was the third party who had interfered in someone else’s marriage. And a homewrecker who was so arrogant, at that.’

"Miss Ainsworth, what’s with that look? You think someone’s trying to steal your man?"

Claire Ainsworth’s face stiffened. She could clearly feel the contempt in David’s eyes, but he hadn’t been like this toward her in the past.

’That bitch Rachel Royce must have said something to him.’

Then she heard him continue, "But you don’t have to worry, Miss Ainsworth. Nobody wants your man right now."

Tristan Sterling stared at David with a cold, dark expression. Unafraid, David retorted, "Why are you looking at me like that? I’m not wrong."

Tristan Sterling’s voice grew cold. "I see you have too much time on your hands."

David was immediately on guard.

Tristan Sterling turned and entered the restaurant with Claire Ainsworth.

Alexander Sullivan glanced at the two of them before following.

David said to Rachel Royce, "Come on, let’s go in too."

The two of them entered the restaurant and found a table.

Tristan Sterling, Alexander, and Claire were seated three tables away from them—not too far, but not too close either.

A waiter came over and handed them the menus.

"You order," Rachel Royce said.

David took the menu. "Alright, I won’t hold back then."

Rachel Royce smiled. "I’d prefer it if you didn’t."

After they ordered,

David suddenly said in a heartfelt tone, "Evelynn, you Eastern women set your moral standards way too high. Your marriage right now is just a worthless piece of paper. You can still date and find a man. Tell me, what’s the difference between your life all these years and being unmarried?"

Rachel Royce said with a smile, "You’re not wrong about that."

David smiled, his eyes crinkling. "Then why not consider me first? Let me show you what a real romance, one a woman deserves, feels like. I promise my world will revolve around you."

Sipping her juice, Rachel Royce said, "I’m not interested in a long-distance relationship."

David said, "That’s easy. How about I go back to your country with you right now? I can afford a plane ticket."

Rachel Royce rejected him again.

David put on a wounded expression. "You won’t even give me one chance? I’m heartbroken."

Rachel Royce replied with a gentle smile, "Are you saying you don’t want to be friends with me anymore?"

David’s tone was both earnest and resigned. "It seems I really don’t have a chance. But I hope that for the duration of this dinner, Evelynn, you’ll be my girlfriend. After that, we’ll just be friends."

Rachel Royce looked at him.

Just then,

a waiter approached with a serving cart, upon which sat a bouquet of vibrant, dewy roses.

Inside the restaurant,

people started to turn their gazes toward them.

Rachel Royce was startled by the sight of the roses on the cart.

David stood up, took the roses, and knelt on one knee before Rachel Royce. "Evelynn, will you say yes?"

At that moment,

everyone in the restaurant was looking at them.

Tristan Sterling, Alexander Sullivan, and Claire Ainsworth watched the scene unfold.

Claire Ainsworth knew what kind of man David was. It was always women throwing themselves at him, yet here he was, kneeling on one knee and offering flowers to Rachel Royce.

’Jealousy surged within her. What right did that ugly woman have?’

Rachel Royce was seen quickly taking the bouquet.

David leaned in close, and the two took a photo together, their faces nearly touching. Because her back was to them, it was impossible to see Rachel Royce’s expression.

After the photo was taken, David couldn’t hide the look of utter satisfaction in his eyes.

Onlookers clapped to celebrate for them.

David announced magnanimously, "Tonight, everyone’s meal is on me."

Another round of enthusiastic congratulations erupted.

Alexander Sullivan turned back to look at Tristan Sterling.

Tristan Sterling coolly withdrew his gaze, reached for his wine glass, and took a sip.
