Chapter 198: Shouldn’t You Give Me an Explanation?

She wanted to hang up immediately.

But in the end, she answered the call.

A man’s deep voice came through the phone. "Shouldn’t you give me an explanation now?"

Rachel Royce had no energy left to deal with him. "Tristan Sterling, just say what you want."

After she spoke, the other end of the line fell into a silence so oppressive it was almost suffocating.

When Rachel didn’t hear a response, she was about to hang up. Just then, the man’s imperious voice cut in, "In two days, you’re coming with me to an event. Be ready."

Without giving Rachel a chance to refuse, he hung up.

Rachel froze for a moment, then tossed her phone aside.

After lunch,

Rachel worked from the villa.

That afternoon, after finishing his work at the New York office, Julian Jennings arrived at the villa where Rachel and the others were staying.

Thomas Sterling wasn’t surprised to see him, as he knew Julian was coming.

"Julian, you’re here," Thomas greeted him.

Julian nodded. "How have you been?"

"Yeah, everything’s been good."

Rachel was still in the study, working.

The two of them chatted downstairs.

Julian and Thomas prepared dinner together.

"Thomas, your cooking skills look pretty impressive," Julian said with a smile, looking at the shredded pork dish he had prepared.

Thomas smiled slightly. "This is the result of failing a dozen times. Rachel is busy with work, and I’ve pretty much handled my own business here. When I have free time, I teach myself to cook. We’re not used to the local food, so I’m the only one who does the cooking."

Just as dinner was ready, Rachel came downstairs.

The four of them had dinner together.

"Has Zion Alden been looking for Rachel these past two days?" Julian asked.

Thomas had already told Julian about running into Zion Alden the other night and had taken the opportunity to learn more about him.

The Alden Family was quite influential in the local Chinese community and had deep connections with the upper echelons of North American society.

Putting Zion Alden in prison in the first place had been extremely difficult.

So, it wasn’t surprising that he had now been released on bail.

Rachel didn’t hide it. "He came to my company today."

Thomas looked at her with concern.

Rachel gave him a faint smile. "Nothing happened, don’t worry."

Julian turned to Miles Sheldon. "Miles, you need to stay close to her."

Miles Sheldon nodded. "I know."

Rachel also told Julian about the share transfer negotiation scheduled for the next day.

After dinner,

Julian stayed over.

Conveniently, there was a spare bedroom on the first floor.

「The next morning.」

Miles Sheldon drove Rachel Royce to the company.

Thomas Sterling went along with them.

The two of them went upstairs.

At ten in the morning,

David arrived with the representative from the other company.

Rachel went forward to greet them and shake hands.

In the reception room,

Rachel had already prepared all the relevant documents for them to review.

They talked in detail for nearly two hours. The other company had already conducted market research on KU beforehand.

As a result, the negotiations went very smoothly.

Once everything was confirmed, they would move on to the follow-up work: drafting and signing the contract, handling the equity transfer, and taking care of tax-related matters.

Rachel invited them to dinner that evening.

Afterward, Rachel personally saw them off downstairs.

She watched as their car slowly drove away.

Rachel turned to David and said, "David, thank you so much for this."

David smiled. "It’s not like I helped for free. Evelynn, you owe me a favor."

"Of course."

"Perfect. In that case, there’s an event tomorrow. How about you be my date?"

His words made Rachel freeze. She suddenly realized the event David was talking about must be the same one Tristan Sterling had called her about yesterday.

Seeing that she didn’t agree immediately, David’s face fell with disappointment. "Is there a problem? You’re not going to turn me down, are you?"

Rachel replied, "It would indeed be rude of me to refuse."

David smiled. "Great. I’ll pick you up at nine tomorrow morning then."

Rachel agreed.

Having made the arrangement with her, David got into his car in high spirits and left.

Rachel went back upstairs to her office.

Seeing her return, Thomas Sterling said, "All settled?"

Rachel replied, "All settled. Everything went smoothly."

"That’s good. How long will the follow-up process take?"

"About a week," Rachel said. "I’ll leave the rest of the follow-up matters for the company staff to handle."

Thomas couldn’t help but remark, "From what I see, the company’s business development is going quite well."

Of course, Rachel Royce felt incredibly reluctant to let it go, but there was nothing she could do. ’Since it’s already come to this, there’s no point in feeling sentimental.’

"Evelynn!"

The receptionist knocked and entered, holding a bouquet of roses.

Rachel couldn’t help but frown.

"These roses came by delivery," the receptionist said.

Rachel said flatly, "Take them out and throw them away."

The receptionist turned and left with the roses.

Watching Rachel’s reaction, Thomas guessed what was happening. "From Zion Alden?"

Rachel scoffed, "Who else could it be but that madman?"

Thomas’s expression darkened. "He really doesn’t know when to give up."

"..."

The next day, Rachel didn’t go to the office, but she received a call from the front desk saying that another bouquet of roses had been delivered.

Rachel said, "From now on, throw away any roses that arrive."

The receptionist replied, "The delivery man says he has to hand them to you personally, Evelynn, and that you need to sign for them. Otherwise, he risks being fired. I told him you’re not in the office, and he said he could deliver them to your home."

’Just like Zion Alden,’ she thought.

"This isn’t something I should have to deal with."

Rachel hung up.

"What’s wrong?"

Julian Jennings’s voice came from nearby.

Rachel turned around.

Julian stepped forward and handed her a glass of juice.

He was staying there temporarily.

Three years ago,

Zion Alden had gone directly to the place she shared with June Jennings and had taken her by force.

So, to be safe, Julian was now staying with her.

Rachel took the glass. "Thank you."

"Who was on the phone?"

Rachel took a sip of juice and briefly explained.

Julian’s eyes turned cold. "We need to be wary of him using KU to threaten you. We have to prepare for that."

Rachel had already considered that.

She hadn’t signed the contract with the other company yet. If anything went wrong, they could back out at any time.

She couldn’t let the company fall into a crisis.

That madman Zion Alden was capable of anything—he was even more hateful and perverse than Tristan Sterling.

"I know."

"If you don’t have anything else on today, how about visiting Professor Michael this afternoon? I just contacted him, and he happens to be home today."

Rachel hadn’t been to see the professor since she arrived. "I’m afraid I can’t today," she said.

She told Julian about attending the event with David today.

Julian asked, "What kind of event? Where is it being held?"

"I’m not sure about the details," Rachel said.

"Ask David."

"Okay."

After lunch,

The doorbell rang.

Thomas Sterling went to open the door. When he saw who was standing on the doorstep, he froze in shock.
