Chapter 194: What Is Their Relationship?
Ivan Alden stood still, watching Rachel Royce’s retreating figure. He let out a soft chuckle and looked away.
The driver pulled the car up in front of him, and a doorman hurried over to respectfully open the door.
Ivan Alden took his phone out of his pants pocket and got into the car while making a call.
The call connected quickly.
Ivan Alden’s voice was playful. "Bro, guess who I saw today?"
「During the dinner party.」
Rachel Royce informed the senior management that she planned to transfer her shares and withdraw from KU’s operations.
Although Tristan Sterling was no longer interfering, she had only temporarily withdrawn her divorce petition.
Some of the executives tried their best to convince her to stay.
But Rachel Royce’s mind was made up, so they couldn’t press the matter further.
Until the matter was settled, she would stay here and continue to participate in management and operations.
「After the dinner party.」
As Rachel Royce walked out of the building, she saw a flashy Apollo sports car parked by the roadside. A blond, blue-eyed man was leaning against the car door. He wore black sunglasses and a flamboyantly patterned shirt with several buttons undone, a look that was surprisingly fashionable and eye-catching on him.
David saw Rachel Royce, immediately hung up the phone, and stood up straight. He waved at her with a bright, bold smile.
Rachel Royce walked over to him. "Wearing sunglasses at night... impressive."
David laughed. "Just trying to look cool. Come on, get in. Let’s go for a drink."
David had helped her out. He had already found a company willing to buy her shares at a high price, one that had no connection to Tristan Sterling and was guaranteed to be beyond his interference.
「Two days later.」
She could negotiate with the other party and finalize the contract.
He had just called, and she had offered to buy him a drink.
David opened the car door for Rachel Royce like a gentleman.
Rachel Royce got into the car. As soon as she sat down, she smelled the familiar scent of a Dior women’s perfume. As she put her feet down, she stepped on something.
She bent down to pick it up. It was a tube of lipstick.
David got in and saw the lipstick in her hand. He smiled. "No need to touch up your makeup, Evelynn. You’re already beautiful enough. Of course, if you want to be even more beautiful for me, I’d be very happy."
Rachel Royce handed him the lipstick, a slight curve on her lips. "This is a limited edition. Someone probably dropped it by accident."
David instantly understood. A flicker of coldness crossed his eyes, but as he took the lipstick, his handsome, chiseled face showed no sign of embarrassment. "Sigh, Evelynn, you never get jealous."
"Alright, let’s go," Rachel Royce said.
David said no more and drove off.
"By the way, I have to tell you something."
"What is it?" Rachel Royce asked.
David said, "Zion Alden has been released on bail."
As he finished speaking, the color drained from Rachel Royce’s face. Hearing that name filled her with a visceral sense of disgust and revulsion, and goosebumps broke out uncontrollably all over her skin.
David glanced at her. "I only found out about this two days ago myself. But he’s restricted to a specific location and can’t leave. There’s no way he knows you’re back."
Hearing this, Rachel Royce couldn’t help but clench her fists.
’But I just happened to run into Ivan Alden today. Zion Alden must already know.’
Seeing her silence, David asked worriedly, "Evelynn, what’s wrong?"
"It’s nothing," Rachel Royce replied.
David reassured her, "What’s there to be afraid of? You’ve still got me. If he dares to try and get revenge on you, I definitely won’t let him get away with it."
Rachel Royce smiled. "In that case, I’ll buy you a couple extra bottles tonight."
David replied, "I won’t hold back."
The two of them drank until ten o’clock at night.
David had his driver come pick them up. He had originally planned to take Rachel Royce home, but Thomas Sterling had called her in the meantime.
Only then did David realize Rachel Royce hadn’t come to New York alone.
Thomas Sterling came directly to the private room to find her.
This was the first time David had met Thomas Sterling.
When Thomas Sterling saw David, his eyes were clearly filled with wariness.
A man’s sixth sense. David, of course, understood what was happening at a glance.
’Sigh.’
’How does Evelynn have so many men around her?’
’Their relationship seems even closer than the one between her and Julian Jennings.’
"Rachel."
Thomas Sterling stepped forward to help Rachel Royce up.
Rachel Royce had drunk quite a bit, but it wasn’t high-proof alcohol. Aside from feeling a little dizzy, she was still perfectly lucid.
"I’m fine."
David walked over and extended his hand to greet Thomas Sterling. "A pleasure to meet you, sir. My name is David."
Hearing his fluent Chinese, Thomas Sterling shook his hand. "Thomas Sterling."
Hearing this name, David was startled. "What is Tristan Sterling to you?"
Thomas Sterling was surprised. "Mr. David, you know my cousin?"
"So you’re cousins. Yes, I happen to know your cousin."
Thomas Sterling grunted in acknowledgment, his attitude cool. "It’s getting late. I’ll be taking her home now."
"Alright," David said with a smile.
Rachel Royce said goodbye to David.
"I’ll be in touch in two days."
Rachel Royce hummed in agreement.
Thomas Sterling helped Rachel Royce out of the private room.
Watching them leave, David took out his phone and dialed a number. The call connected quickly.
"Tristan, when are you arriving?"
He had originally arranged to meet with Tristan Sterling tonight but had carved out two hours to have a drink and a chat alone with Evelynn, knowing she wouldn’t stay out too late.
"Almost there. I brought someone with me."
"Alright," David said.
He hung up.
Thomas Sterling and Rachel Royce walked out of the lobby, with him supporting her as they headed toward the parking area.
They came face to face with two men walking in.
Tristan Sterling was dressed in a black shirt and matching straight-leg trousers. His shoulders were broad and his waist narrow, and he looked as handsome and noble as ever. But perhaps it was Rachel Royce’s imagination, for standing here on this foreign soil, the repressed, primal, and sinister aura about him seemed even more pronounced.
The man standing beside him had short, neat hair styled into a wolf cut mullet, a delicate face with deep-set, narrow eyes. It was the face of a man who was insidious, cold-hearted, and ruthless.
The moment she saw the man, she was even more horrified than when she saw Tristan Sterling. Her whole body began to tremble.
Supporting Rachel Royce, Thomas Sterling clearly noticed the abnormal change in her body.
Tristan Sterling saw Rachel Royce’s unusual reaction, but it was obvious she wasn’t reacting to him. He couldn’t help but frown slightly.
He glanced sideways at Zion Alden.
Zion Alden, however, didn’t notice Tristan Sterling’s change in expression. He walked straight up to Rachel Royce, a smile on his thin lips. "Evelynn, long time no see. You really came back."
If you didn’t see the sinister look in the depths of his eyes, an unknowing bystander would have thought it was just an old acquaintance saying hello.
"You seem to have gotten even more beautiful."
As he spoke, an unconcealable greed filled his eyes.
Rachel Royce’s soft cheeks were flushed with a rosy blush from the alcohol, and under the crystal lights, her beautiful eyes shimmered with a watery sheen, like a peach in March, drenched in spring rain.
Rachel Royce’s eyes narrowed as she stared warily at the man.
"Rachel, let’s go!"
Thomas Sterling’s voice pulled her back to her senses, and he guided her away.
As they passed Tristan Sterling, they acted as if they were looking at a complete and utter stranger.
Zion Alden turned his body, his gaze locked on Rachel Royce’s slender back, lingering on her delicate waist.
Tristan Sterling’s dark eyes stared at him. He stepped forward and asked, "What is your relationship?" His tone betrayed little emotion.
