Chapter 486: Planning for the Future

Chapter 486: Planning for the Future

After becoming his own housekeeper, Jordan Yorke indeed kept his promise, always being available to serve Penelope Thatcher tirelessly. He tidied up the house, even cooked meals.

When they went out, he would voluntarily carry Penelope’s bags, acting as her porter.

Gradually, Penelope got used to having him around and thought Jordan was pretty alright.

Except when Jordan would chatter non-stop like an old man, and she’d just tell him to shut up.

She only took Jordan out for her shopping sprees as her porter, but whenever they encountered acquaintances, people would assume he was her kept lover. Eventually, Penelope stopped bothering to explain, letting them misunderstand.

After all, it wasn’t true.

So, more and more people teased Penelope, thinking her taste was quite unique for fancying Jordan.

After all, Jordan looked ordinary, with a clumsy demeanor, and setting off alarms at security checks; most wouldn’t be into that.

Every time people teased them, Jordan would just smile goofily, and since Penelope didn’t clarify, it only deepened the misunderstanding of them as a couple, so folks in Penelope’s circle treated Jordan quite politely.

One day, Penelope went shopping with Summer Xavier, having invested in Aura’s company, she got to know Summer better.

Both loved shopping, so they often arranged to go together.

Summer had been busy recently, but now having some free time, they were ready to hit the mall hard.

Penelope naturally brought along Jordan.

Summer saw Jordan’s affectionate demeanor toward Penelope and thought it was harmonious.

Why did it seem to Summer that Jordan was treating Penelope like his girlfriend?

When Penelope was buying stuff, he kept urging her to spend less and live frugally.

When encountering expensive items, he’d advise they weren’t worth buying.

He even urged Penelope not to buy more clothes as she already had plenty at home, stressing frugality.

Like an old man, he just wouldn’t stop nagging.

Honestly, Summer had never seen a housekeeper behave like that.

She asked Penelope, "Is he really your male housekeeper?"

Penelope nodded, "Of course, despite looking silly, he’s actually quite capable both at home and outside."

Summer chuckled, unable to see Jordan’s capability, "Why did you consider hiring someone like him?"

Penelope recounted the circumstances.

Summer looked at Penelope with a strange expression.

Hadn’t Penelope realized she was being stuck with Jordan?

What about repaying a debt of gratitude? Was clinging onto Penelope like that really repaying? If he truly wanted to repay her, why not find a proper job and then repay her later?

Wasn’t it just him having nowhere else to go, seeing Penelope as kind and just latching onto her?

Anyone could see Penelope considered him a housekeeper, but Jordan didn’t seem to be aware of it.

Was Penelope really that naïve to not see it?

But it seemed inappropriate to say it outright, lest Penelope think she was questioning her intelligence.

After all, Summer wasn’t as close to Penelope as she was with Paige Sterling.

So, Summer said, "I think hiring a housekeeper, you’d better choose a female, especially as a single woman yourself. You know nothing about Jordan; what if he tries something with you? Moreover, with the two of you living alone, it’s an ambiguous situation; what if it causes misunderstandings when you find a boyfriend later?"

Penelope found the argument reasonable but said, "I don’t even consider him a man, so what’s there to misunderstand? Besides, my friends all know he’s my hired housekeeper. As for him having any ulterior motives, that’s even less likely; you see how honest he is, just spinning around at my beck and call."

But knowing Summer was concerned for her, Penelope said, "Don’t worry, I’m not that easy to bully. All the guards upstairs and downstairs are my bodyguards; if he dared do anything, I’d make sure he doesn’t see the sun tomorrow."

In her heart, Penelope still saw Jordan as an honest person, believing he wouldn’t dare do anything.

Seeing Penelope’s confidence, Summer kept quiet.

After parting ways post-shopping, Penelope returned home.

She had spent quite some time shopping today and felt a bit tired, so upon arriving home, she just crashed.

Jordan busied himself putting away Penelope’s purchases, all the while nagging about her living like this...

Bla bla bla.

It was like a lullaby that put Penelope into even deeper sleep.

Jordan sighed, though he knew Penelope had money, but he thought it shouldn’t be squandered like this; it should be conserved, considering the future for both of them.

After all, Penelope was living off being someone’s mistress to have so much money, it’s a young person’s game, and when she gets older and isn’t supported, she’ll have no money.

If she doesn’t save now, she’ll face hard days in the future.

In Penelope’s eyes, Jordan was her housekeeper.

But in Jordan’s mind, he had already committed himself, was Penelope’s man, her boyfriend, and hoped to build a future together.

For the sake of repaying her life-saving grace, he didn’t mind Penelope’s past as a mistress; he wanted to repay her.

Even though he had someone he liked, and didn’t truly love Penelope.

But he couldn’t forsake his debt of gratitude; he could only fail the girl who cared for him.

Despite disliking how Penelope only knew how to shop and flaunt, not being a fitting wife in his eyes, he chose the path of repayment and would stay by her side.

He hoped Penelope would change her ways, save money, and think about their future home instead of being so capricious.

Otherwise, he honestly didn’t know how he could continue with Penelope.

After organizing her purchases, Jordan noticed Penelope had bought quite a few men’s items today.

There was a watch, suit, leather shoes, and some men’s accessories, all appearing very luxurious.

These must have been purchased for him, and surely, wearing them he could also be as charming as those successful people.

Sigh, Penelope really knew how to spend money; he truly didn’t like it nor those flashy things.

But since Penelope bought them for him, if he didn’t wear them, she certainly would be disappointed.

After all, his life was saved by Penelope; he would mold himself to her desires.

So, to please Penelope, Jordan promptly put on the suit and leather shoes, along with the watch and other accessories she bought.

Standing in front of the mirror, he believed he looked almost like a successful person, so much that those successful people might show slight deference before him.

He inadvertently straightened his back, mimicking the successful figures on TV, walking a few steps with his hands behind his back.

If Penelope saw him like this, she’d surely love him even more.
