Chapter 482: What Do You Think
Chapter 482: What Do You Think
After Alisa was arrested, she claimed to have information and promised to hand it over to the country if she was released and sent abroad. But unfortunately, the information is now already in the hands of the authorities, rendering her threat ineffective.
She had done quite a bit in secret, and the people at the Tell Group, fearful of taking responsibility, pushed a lot of the blame onto Alisa. It seems it will be hard for Alisa to get out in this lifetime.
Despite having a strong hand and such beauty, she couldn’t understand how she ended up in this situation.
The Paige Sterling she despised continued to thrive so pleasingly.
After things settled, Paige Sterling went to the Chambers Group to discuss the upcoming holographic movie technology with Evan Chambers.
When she left Evan Chambers’ office, she encountered Mason.
Mason’s eyes sparkled, "God Sterling!"
Paige nodded at her, and Mason blushed, saying, "God Sterling, if you have time, I’d like to invite you to dinner, can I?"
Paige, "No time."
She rejected him outright, then left, not caring in the slightest that her cold words might have hurt a young boy’s fragile heart.
After leaving the Chambers Group, Paige went directly back to Silverstream Bay.
Julian Hawthorne had been staying home lately because it was inconvenient for him to go out.
Seeing Paige return, he hugged her like a big bear, then noticed an envelope sticking out of her coat.
Julian thought Paige was unaware and intended to secretly pull it out and dispose of it quietly, but then decided against it and instead reminded her.
"There seems to be a letter in your bag."
Paige reached into her bag and found an actual letter inside.
She casually tossed the letter aside, showing little interest.
Julian’s lips curved in satisfaction but he pretended to be magnanimous, saying, "Aren’t you going to open it? What if it’s important?"
Paige replied, "Everyone who needs to contact me knows how to; if there’s anything, they’ll call. Who would even write a letter? No idea where it came from."
Paige had no interest in opening the letter.
Julian, however, said, "What if someone specifically wanted to tell you something through a letter?"
Seeing his fascination with the letter, Paige said, "If you want to see it, just look at it. Why the fussy act?"
Julian retorted, "It’s addressed to you, not me; I won’t read it."
But his hand had already opened the letter, and he said shamelessly, "Let me open it for you."
The letter’s paper was exquisitely chosen, somewhat reminiscent of the type teenagers might choose for confession letters, carrying a subtle hint.
It even had a light fragrance, almost imperceptible but revealing the writer’s intention.
Julian squinted, his eyes showing a killing intent.
Writing a letter was one thing, but using such a suggestive paper.
And then spraying it with this implicitly suggestive perfume.
It had been a while since he last asserted himself, and now someone was audaciously coveting his wife.
Julian snorted internally but didn’t read the letter, instead deliberately unfolding it in front of Paige.
Paige, however, didn’t notice and didn’t look.
Julian urged her, "The letter writer put a lot of thought into it; if you don’t read it, you’re wasting their effort."
The sarcastic Julian had returned.
Paige chuckled twice, still not looking; she wouldn’t fall into Julian’s trap.
If she did read it, Julian would accuse her of eagerly reading someone else’s letter, then baselessly accuse her of being interested in young men.
Mr. Hawthorne’s tricks, she had long since figured them out.
Julian, seeing her discernment, said, "If you’re too busy to read it, I’ll read it to you."
Without waiting for Paige to respond, he grabbed the letter again and began reading aloud.
The letter’s beginning was innocuous, merely asking if she had been well recently.
But as it went on, it conveyed a persistent message for Paige: why hang oneself on Julian Hawthorne when there are plenty of other flowering options? Look around; there are so many attractive and talented young men.
Nearly suggesting outright that she should ditch Julian and consider himself.
Signed, Mason.
How shamelessly they were trying to steal his woman!
Did they think he was dead?
Julian was nearly grinding his teeth by the time he finished reading.
Finally, he tore up the letter and threw it in the trash, looking at Paige, "Who’s this Mason?"
Paige replied, "He’s an artist under Chambers Group, the one endorsing the holographic game, that pretty boy."
Julian’s tone was icy, "You sure know him well."
Calling him a pretty boy, hmph...
What kind of tone was this? Paige was speechless.
Some men just have to read letters that will upset them, and then they find trouble for her; it’s truly enough.
"Julian Hawthorne, enough already, that’s it."
Julian didn’t stop, pulling Paige into his arms with a sinister smile.
"In the letter, he said the first time you met him, your smile was as dazzling as a spring blossom, enchanting him. Come, show me how you smiled."
How would she remember how she smiled? She didn’t even recall if she had smiled!
"I never smiled at him." Paige denied, looking disappointingly at Julian, "Do you not believe me?"
Julian, somewhat deflated, said, "I trust you if you say you didn’t."
Then added, "He called me a piece of trash and suggested you leave me for a happier life. What do you think?"
Paige cradled Julian’s face, blinking, "He doesn’t understand you and just talks nonsense. Why get upset with a youngster? Isn’t it enough that I know how good you are?"
Julian was pleased, though he pretended to be angry, coldly snorting, "He’s young, isn’t that an advantage?"
"Nonsense, you’re older, mature, and steady, just how I like."
Julian snorted again.
Seeing he wasn’t letting it go, Paige directly kissed his lips, akin to a female CEO, "Enough, stop talking about irrelevant people."
Julian realized she was right; the more he mentioned it, the deeper Mason’s impression might become in Paige’s mind.
Opening that letter was his own undoing, nothing but self-inflicted trouble.
The next day, Paige returned to the Sterling Family, not expecting her car to be stopped at the entrance to the villa area.
The person forced her car to stop, then ran over, grabbing the side mirror.
"Miss Sterling!"
Paige rolled down the window and glanced, realizing it was Sarah Sutton.
Paige frowned; hadn’t she been taken back to her hometown by her parents? What trouble was she brewing now?
Paige ignored Sarah, rolling up the window and attempting to leave.
But Sarah stuck her hand in the window, loudly exclaiming, "Miss Sterling, I’m pregnant! Here’s the ultrasound from the hospital!"
Paige’s expression was a bit odd, "Is the child mine?"
Sarah’s face suddenly looked as if she’d eaten something nasty, "The child is Mr. Hawthorne’s, exactly two months."
Watching Paige’s reaction, Sarah was surprised to find none.
"Since the child isn’t mine, why are you stopping me?" Crazy.
Sarah hurriedly said, "Miss Sterling, didn’t you understand me? The child is Mr. Hawthorne’s!"
Paige remained completely calm, "And then?"
Sarah was dumbfounded, never expecting Paige to be so indifferent.
She knew Julian Hawthorne had been caught and might end up in prison.
