Chapter 242: Run Fast
Chapter 242: Run Fast
Time passed swiftly on the island. It felt like in just a few blinks of an eye, the scenery in the sky darkened significantly. The night sky, interwoven with stars and the moon, effortlessly enveloped the island below, turning the already unpeaceful daytime environment even more gloomy.
Alajina, Pakhz, and the others didn't find much meat on the island, but there was an abundance of fruit growing on the trees. They loaded roughly five or six small boats full of it to take back. These fruits should be enough for the Iceberg Queen to reach the next supply point.
As for meat, they could only try scooping some fish from the sea to eat. Fisher heard the Iceberg Queen had fishing nets and the like; he would go down to the sea to catch some when day broke.
The Lion-kin Filis had worked herself half to death for quite a while, scooping up quite a few treasures from the beach and piling them behind her. Pakhz and her crew would occasionally bring some over to pile up behind her as well, demonstrating absolute fairness and lack of hidden treasures, just waiting for the digging to finish so they could split it all together.
The not-so-bright Filis actually believed the growing pile of treasures behind her was the result of their combined cooperation, when in fact, she had dug up most of it herself. But as long as she was happy; the atmosphere over here was quite harmonious.
As good as the situation was on Filis and Pakhz's side, that was exactly how bad the atmosphere was on Valentiina's side, naturally because of that damn True Ice Scroll.
The environment on the island was too austere. Originally, according to Valentiina's plan, she prepared to take the scroll back to the Northern Border before opening it. Valentiina's home had an enormous, immovable spatial relic that could relatively safely extract the scroll.
But the problem now was that this scroll couldn't be taken off the island. Extracting the scroll and reading its contents under the current austere conditions posed obvious difficulties.
"I say, aren't you a magician? Didn't you say this was magic set by the Phoenix Race? Then just follow magical logic to cancel the Magic Crests on it, wouldn't that work?"
"Sizzle... I never said this was magic on top of it, only that the principle of the fluctuation is similar to magic.""Then just handle it according to magical theory, wouldn't that work?"
"Sizzle... I can't."
"Your mother..."
Balthazar covered his face. With his irritable temper, he definitely wanted to curse something out at this moment, but he turned and saw a large amount of gray feathers growing again on Herdor's arm, so he shut his mouth again.
Although this fellow Herdor was composed entirely of steam machinery for some unknown reason, his temper was generally quite good, and he wasn't an illiterate like Filis. Therefore, Balthazar had a decent relationship with him within the team, even though they rarely communicated on ordinary days.
"Hey, Steam-man, we're almost out of spare arms to replace for you. If it grows feathers again, try using your foot to study it... I'll help you attach your foot to your hand."
Behind them, watching the steam machinery she had painstakingly built all turn into feather dusters, Sertil speechlessly spat out the finished malt lollipop stick from her mouth. She looked impatiently at her two companions squatting on the ground studying the True Ice Scroll.
"Then let's take a break first. It won't be too late to study it after eating dinner."
"Ah, thanks, Heidelin. What delicious food did you make tonight?"
The big-bosomed sister known as "Heidelin" smiled kindly. Glancing at the dish in her hand, she said,
"It's sea fish soup and barley bread. It tastes very good when dipped... Hmm, why hasn't Filis returned yet?"
"That stupid lion is so Money-Hungry, I'm afraid she wouldn't even notice if we left. Ignore her, she isn't hungry right now."
"Alright then. Miss has already eaten; I'll save a portion separately for her later. You guys take your time eating."
Sitting in her wheelchair in the back, Valentiina watched this scene and sighed with a headache.
At this pace, who knew when they would finally open the scroll and see the contents inside.
Valentiina always liked to prepare well in advance before doing anything. She had made ample preparations prior to searching for the scroll, yet unexpectedly stumbled here, never anticipating that anyone other than the Phoenix Race couldn't take this item away.
Just as she frustratingly rubbed her temples, she suddenly thought of something and turned her head toward the distant jungle.
Over there, a gentleman from Naris still had one leg propped up on a tree, currently using a wooden stick to draw and write on the trunk. It was unknown what he was researching, but Valentiina clearly felt he was simultaneously monitoring their progress.
More importantly... he also wanted to know the hidden contents within this scroll. In that case, was it possible he also had a certain amount of research on this scroll and knew other methods to break the Curse and extract the information?
