Chapter 207: Flesh Grafting
Chapter 207: Flesh Grafting
"Xi Yate!"
Fisher and Jasmine passed all the way through the corridor ahead. At a certain place not far away, they vaguely heard hurried hoofbeats. Presumably, Xi Yate was in this direction.
However, the direction they just came from was not quiet either. From the second floor of the treasury and the rear, countless dense footsteps akin to drumbeats sounded successively. Coupled with those unconscious, humanoid roars and shrieks, it was like a pure infernal waltz.
In order to accurately determine Xi Yate's location, Jasmine shouted her name loudly while running,
"Xi Yate, where are you?!"
"Waaah! Come quickly! Help!"
Xi Yate obviously heard Jasmine's shout and responded. Fisher's gaze shifted slightly, pinpointing the direction the voice came from,
"Over there."
Black's treasury wasn't a single straight corridor to the end. There were exceedingly complex connecting passages between corridors, and Fisher didn't know where these corridors led either. But roughly, the rooms beside every corridor contained a certain amount of treasure.
After Xi Yate's voice sounded, Fisher fiercely raised the Fluid Sword in his hand, because he had already heard the noises of quite a few Human-Insects coming from the direction of Xi Yate's voice."Roar!"
In the next second, a giant monster rushed out from the nearby corridor. Differing from the Human-Insects Fisher had encountered previously, the Human-Insect appearing before Fisher's eyes at this moment possessed an even higher degree of deformity. Moreover, the Human-Insect before his eyes wasn't created by combining a human with other creatures; it simply seemed to be composed of two individual humans.
The monster before his eyes, growing human skin and flesh, was roughly three meters tall. Two drooping, bell-like heads hung right in the middle of that deformed monster. Simultaneously, layers of complex mana circuits unconsciously lit up on this monster's body.
The structure of those mana circuits was already nearing chaos and collapse, just like two twisting and entangled wires, making anyone who saw it feel their scalp go numb.
"Is this also the monster we saw before?"
Jasmine first met it head-on with a kick, knocking the monster before her back a distance. Following that, Fisher used the Fluid Sword again to neatly split it into two halves.
"No, it's different from the Human-Insects we encountered before, at least the technology used to create them is different."
Fisher and Jasmine watched helplessly as the monster in the distance fell painfully into a pool of blood. But amidst its constant squirming, the monster's body was continuously bonding together. It wasn't the flesh and blood growing first; rather, at the separated parts, Fisher, endued with rather keen perception, abruptly saw illusory shadows constantly growing.
Was that the soul?
"Ignore it for now, let's go find Xi Yate first!"
Fisher's brows furrowed slightly. Time was tight right now; he ignored the subsequently regenerating monster and instead continued toward Xi Yate's direction.
Originally, there were many rooms around the corridor, but in this direction there were none. There were merely straight, deep, and secluded corridors leading to unknown depths, and from those depths, hoofbeats and roars constantly transmitted out.
After less than three minutes of running, what appeared at the end of the corridor before Fisher and Jasmine's eyes was an enormous plaza. The overall topography of the plaza presented a situation where the center was high and the surroundings were low. On the rather high place in the center sat a relic with an extremely bizarre shape. That relic resembled a tall tree, yet had many drooping branches hanging down like tentacles.
And beneath that tree, an operating table only used by doctors was placed there. Beside it was also a small table covered with all kinds of medical tools, items similar to forceps, needles, and silk threads.
The adjacent areas with lower topography were covered with a faint layer of a strange mixture of blood and water currents. In that pool of blood, a group of strange monsters Fisher and Jasmine had just seen earlier were currently chasing after Xi Yate, who was sprinting wildly ahead with her eyes closed.
One could see arrows belonging to Xi Yate still stuck in the monsters behind. It seemed Xi Yate had tried combating them first just now, only to discover they fundamentally couldn't be beaten to death, and it subsequently turned into this current game of "you chase me".
However, Fisher completely failed to see the figure of Lady Anna wearing traditional Naris attire, not knowing where she had gone.
"Fisher! Jasmine! Help! These things can't be beaten to death!"
Seeing Xi Yate already panting for breath, Fisher knew she had been sprinting wildly like this for a while. Worried she would collapse from physical exhaustion, Fisher pulled out a piece of magically engraved paper from his inner pocket while simultaneously shouting loudly at her,
"Run towards my side!"
Hearing Fisher's words, Xi Yate immediately reversed direction, trampling up a large mass of foul-smelling bloody water to sprint wildly toward his side. Jasmine had just wanted to move when she discovered the monster they knocked down earlier behind them had also caught up.
She paused in place and took a deep breath. Sizing up the specific timing, she simply performed a turnaround spinning motion. The fishtail behind her acted like a speeding racket, instantaneously swatting that monster flying backward, violently smashing it against the wall behind.
Fisher on this side wasn't slacking either. The Weaver recorded on the paper in his hands surged out at flying speed. Large quantities of transparent silk threads quickly by-passed Xi Yate's body and entangled those monsters chasing behind her.
Seeing the Weaver securely tie up those monsters, Fisher gave a fierce tug. Like an enormous net, the Weaver trapped them inside. Large monsters squeezing against each other were thrown aside by Fisher.
"Roar..."
Seeing these things couldn't be killed for the time being, Fisher could only use magic to imprison them first. Xi Yate also finally let out a sigh of relief, somewhat exhaustedly halting her galloping hooves.
"Thank goodness, you guys finally arrived..."
"Where is Anna? She wasn't with you?"
Xi Yate walked up onto the higher platform in the middle, and then looking at the corridor ahead, she said,
"No, but when we came down I heard her voice. She seemed to be in a deeper location. So, I called for her while moving towards this side, but for some unknown reason I ended up walking here, and there was a large group of unkillable monsters chasing and beating me..."
Xi Yate's expression was somewhat bitter. Fisher, however, looked past her figure entirely at the large tree-like relic behind her. If his guess wasn't wrong, this thing was very likely the item Black used to create those monsters?
"Hey, wait a minute, I smell the scent of knowledge."
Right when Fisher prepared to approach the location of that operating table, from his inner pocket, Sir Book, who had been playing dead because of the battle just now, abruptly flew out. He flew a circle around Fisher, then hurriedly ran to spin around beside that operating table, even shouting loudly at Fisher,
"It's right here!"
Fisher stared somewhat vigilantly at the giant tree above his head that had a somewhat terrifying appearance, deeply afraid this thing would suddenly spring up and injure someone. But very obviously, it seemed to have absolutely no desire to attack Fisher's group, merely standing quietly in place.
"Rest assured, this guy has no attacking capability. Its sole function is maintaining biological activity. To be accurate, this thing is a healing-type holy artifact called the [Tree of Babel Artifact]. I saw quite a lot of them when I was traveling..."
"Healing holy artifact?"
Sir Book flew in front of that tree and gently patted the trunk of that tree, yet it produced a hard collision sensation akin to metal,
"Yes, this thing can maximally maintain the activity of biological organisms, and its efficacy is very strong. To put it this way, even placing a piece of meat inside here can guarantee you won't die!"
The more Fisher listened, the more an ominous premonition arose. Ignoring Sir Book spinning around nearby, he slowly walked near the operating table. Skimming past those surgical instruments stained with faint traces of blood, he squatted down, and spotted the "scent of knowledge" Sir Book mentioned just now beneath the shelf.
Actually, it was just a simple piece of parchment. Fisher reached back, pulled out that parchment, and began reading it.
It turned out this piece of parchment wasn't any miraculous ancient text, but a letter, a letter sent to Black, reading,
"Respected Mr. Black, I have received your reply. Since you have already made up your mind, please carefully read all the subsequent content, and strictly operate according to the steps I have attached to avoid accidents from occurring."
"The traits of life are colorful and complex; every race, every person possesses unique characteristics. If you wish to obtain the traits of other lifeforms, please consider this method: Flesh Grafting."
"Flesh Grafting technology can completely implant any part of any lifeform into your life. The implantation process is extremely complex, but once successful, you will completely share the entirety of another kind of life, its lifespan, abilities, and characteristics."
"You need to prepare the following materials in advance: the relics [Tree of Babel Artifact] and [Soul Calming Bell Artifact]. The Soul Calming Bell Artifact will be relatively difficult to find, but it shouldn't be a problem for Captain Black. The former is used to guarantee the removed fleshly body can maintain the activity of life and soul; the latter is used to ensure no aftereffects are produced after the surgery. Especially the latter, please be absolutely sure to safeguard it well."
"However, this technology is still in my experimental research stage. Even though I have already done a few experiments first, the ultimate results were all not ideal. Thinking about it, it might be due to lacking a relic like the [Soul Calming Bell Artifact]. If you have thought it through, you can write back to me and first prepare an experimental subject that is not yourself for me to test it on."
"Wishing you good luck, my friend."
The further he read this letter, the more terrified Fisher became. In this instant, gazing at those lines of emotionless text, he gradually understood everything...
Flesh Grafting... Flesh Grafting!
He swiftly crumpled that letter lacking a sender into a small ball and stuffed it into his inner pocket. He smoothly grabbed Sir Book, who was still suspended in midair nearby, and stuffed him into his pocket.
"What are you doing?! Let go of this book!"
"Shut up, we are going to find Black now."
Upon hearing they were going to find Black, Sir Book instantaneously shrank his size several times, finding a comfortable place in the pocket anew to stay.
This was Eimhart choosing to hide himself, not Fisher Benavides forcing him to hide himself; there was an immense difference between the two.
"We need to hurry and find Anna now, I know where she is..."
Fisher looked outside the room. Continuing backward from this direction, which was behind the stained glass of the hall earlier, that seemed to be the location where Black stored his own relics.
And Anna must be there.
