Chapter 988 Formation

Ling Feng leapt up the hillside and swiftly located the spot Chen Yuhe had mentioned.

It was a small mound not far away that had been neglected over the years. The original grave mound, eroded by wind and rain, had turned into its current state.

If you didn’t look closely, most people wouldn’t even recognize it as a grave anymore.

Ling Feng looked down and noticed a hole in the ground as wide as a water jar, emitting a stench.

A sweep of Divine Sense revealed the situation in the grave at a glance.

It was a common grave. The wooden coffin had long decayed, only a few planks remained.

Mud and water had seeped in, enveloping the corpse that had likely been there for years.

What Ling Feng could now discern were two human shapes on the dirt, clearly left by those two zombies.

Wrapped up in the earth for so many years, and suddenly crawling out of the grave today, it was indeed a bit too mysterious!

Ling Feng crouched and pondered for a moment. Finding no Formation or anything peculiar nearby, he could only scratch his head and descend the hill.

"Did you find anything?"

Lin Xue and Chen Yuhe asked simultaneously.

"Nothing at all, it’s really strange. Could zombies be remotely controlled?" Ling Feng said helplessly.

"Remote control?" Chen Yuhe asked.

"Yeah, if it’s not that, I don’t know what other methods someone could have used to achieve this effect," Ling Feng explained.

Lin Xue opened up the map again, glanced at it a few times, then murmured, "If it’s remote control through a Formation, covering the whole county surroundings, that would require a massive Formation!"

Hearing her words, Ling Feng had a sudden inspiration!

He immediately said, "I think I understand something now!"

Facing the puzzled looks of the two women, he continued, "Why are all the incidents on the outskirts? Because there are no graves in the city! So we can only look in the neighboring villages!"

Ling Feng didn’t object, and with the two women, they returned to the car and drove back to the county town.

Underneath Yongmao Department Store, the trio got out of the car, looking up.

It was a sixteen-story building; the first few floors were a shopping mall, and above were office spaces, with dozens of companies operating there.

Searching each company was clearly impractical, so Ling Feng decided to go up the floors, intending to scan each layer with Divine Sense from the top down for maximum efficiency.

The trio took the elevator to go upstairs, planning to start from the highest floor when Ling Feng found something off about the rooftop terrace!

He sought out the building’s manager and, after showing his credentials, the manager unlocked the iron door leading to the rooftop.

Upon reaching the rooftop, Ling Feng stepped forward and discovered a peculiar pattern made of white stones on the ground.

Not just in one area—after a sweep of Divine Sense, Ling Feng found eight such spots with these white stones on the terrace.

However, it was disappointing that even after having learned the Compendium of Array Formations, he couldn’t figure out what kind of Formation this was!

But it wasn’t without findings. At least, it confirmed his suspicion that the one who started resurrecting the zombies had launched the Formation here, causing those uncorrupted bodies to crawl out from the ground.

Looking at the bewildered building manager, Ling Feng asked solemnly, "Is this iron door the only way to get up to the rooftop?"

"Yes, the only other way is to fly up here!"

The employee’s comment was a mere jest, but it reminded Ling Feng, because the iron door was locked, the person involved indeed might have accessed the rooftop through a different route!

He walked around the fence, looking for any traces the one who set the Formation might have left.

Unfortunately, he found nothing.

With no other options, he could only tell Lin Xue, "Let’s take the dumb approach and check if any unrelated personnel have entered or exited this building in the past few days."

Lin Xue clicked her tongue, "That’s a massive task, the lower floors are shopping malls, tons of people come and go every day!"

"It’s okay, copy the video footage and let Director Chen’s people analyze it," Ling Feng said with a sly smile.

"Uh..."

Lin Xue rolled her eyes, but still nodded, "Alright, I’ll say it was your idea, otherwise I’m likely to be scolded."

She went downstairs to copy the data, while Ling Feng stayed above, destroying some of the stone arrangements.

This was a precautionary measure to prevent the individual who set the Formation from causing more trouble, although Ling Feng felt it likely that they wouldn’t appear again, one can never be too safe.

After finishing, he saw Chen Yuhe standing on the rooftop, gazing into the distance. Ling Feng approached her, "What are you looking at?"

"Just looking around. See there, Ling Corporation has already secured dozens of buildings!" Chen Yuhe pointed towards the distance.

"Secured? You mean not bought them?" Ling Feng asked.

"Of course not, we don’t have enough capital to buy so many buildings!" Chen Yuhe shook her head.

Ling Feng uttered an "oh" and then asked, "What’s the purpose of securing them?"

"To transform them into apartments for rent. In the future, our county will experience a large influx of population. They’ll need places to live!" Chen Yuhe explained.

"A good idea and a good way to make money!" Ling Feng nodded.

Chen Yuhe smiled smugly, "Certainly, the company has its own team of strategists!"

While they were talking, Ling Feng’s phone rang.

Seeing it was Ye Qian calling, he quickly answered, "Are you here?"

"Yes, I just got off the expressway. Captain Ling, where are you?" asked Ye Qian.

"Yongmao Department Store, just come straight up to the top floor!" Ling Feng stated.

"Got it!" Ye Qian hung up the phone.

Seeing Chen Yuhe watching him, Ling Feng scratched his head, "Why are you looking at me?"

"Is that Ye Qian pretty?" Chen Yuhe asked with a teasing smile.
