Chapter 905 Award Ceremony

Chapter 905 Award Ceremony

Zheng Yitong smiled, "It’s not complicated at all, just noodles cooked in chicken soup with a bit of seasoning."

She spoke modestly, but Zhang He went on to say, "Ling Feng, don’t be fooled by how simple it sounds. Let me tell you, this chicken soup is not your ordinary chicken soup!"

"Oh? What kind of chicken soup is it?" Ling Feng asked.

"Hehe, it’s a secret!"

Zhang He raised his eyebrows, a mischievous smile on his face.

Ling Feng gave him a look, "Childish!"

After saying that, he quickly finished his noodles and then drank every last drop of soup from the bowl.

He then showed a satisfied expression, patting his belly, "It tasted incredible, I don’t even want the roast goose now, you keep it for yourself!"

"That’s what you said, no regrets!"

The moment he heard that, Zhang He moved the roast goose in front of himself.

Zheng Yitong looked at the two men and then asked, "Cousin, we should leave early tonight."

"Don’t worry, I won’t delay your plans. Go get ready, we’ll leave in half an hour!" Zhang He said.

Zheng Yitong nodded and went back to her room. Ling Feng then asked in surprise, "What’s happening? Your cousin is also involved in the operation?"

"No, it’s just the two of us attending her event!" Zhang He said as he wiped his mouth.

Ling Feng: "...."

After his bewilderment, he asked somewhat speechlessly, "What do you mean? So what you two were talking about earlier has nothing to do with the matter I came for?"

"Yeah, I didn’t say we were going to confront the Holy Light Society tonight!"

Zhang He looked at him, "Tonight is my cousin’s award ceremony, and we’re going to act as her bodyguards!"

"I..."

Ling Feng was utterly speechless, really wanting to stand up and punch him!

How did he end up unwittingly becoming someone’s bodyguard?

"Don’t get excited, could an older cousin harm you? You’ll see my good intentions after tonight!" Zhang He quickly said when he saw the cold light in Ling Feng’s eyes.

"Really? What if there’s no payoff?" Ling Feng asked.

"If you feel I’ve played you, then you can cut ties with me from now on!" Zhang He said sincerely.

Hearing him talk like this, Ling Feng nodded, "You said it, no regrets!"

"Regret is for fools!" Zhang He rolled his eyes.

Time was getting on, and they soon changed into a new set of clothes and went downstairs together.

By then, an additional vehicle had appeared in the courtyard, the type of SUV often used by celebrities, with an appearance that looked to be worth several million.

Once in the car and seeing the interior, Ling Feng silently marveled, "The flair of a big star really is different!"

This car was far more luxurious than Chu Nan’s, and although Ling Feng couldn’t say exactly what made it superior, the feeling of sitting in it was just different.

Zheng Yitong had changed into a shiny silver evening gown with a close-fitting, cinched waist design, which accentuated her delicate figure.

After she got into the car, the driver started the vehicle and they left the villa. It was only then that Ling Feng asked, "What do I need to do tonight?"

"Just follow my lead. There’s unlikely to be any trouble, but if something unexpected does happen, remember your top priority is to protect Tongtong!" Zhang He said.

Ling Feng thought to himself, that’s obvious, if I didn’t have that sense as a bodyguard, then what am I even doing here?

After the car descended the mountain, it quickly entered the urban area of Harbor Island.

This was a densely populated city with rather narrow streets, so the car could only move slowly. Pedestrians of all sorts filled the sidewalks on both sides.

There were hurried office workers, tourist groups in little red caps, and amongst them, young people with flip-flops and hair dyed in all colors of the rainbow.

These people have a unified name, gangsters.

Seeing them, Ling Feng smiled and said, "This feels so familiar, it reminds me of movies I’ve seen before!"

"Are you talking about the stories of Brother Haonan and Brother Mountain Chicken?" Zhang He asked.

"Exactly!"

Ling Feng nodded and looked at Zheng Yitong, "You know those two actors, right?"

"I’ve met them a few times at events, but we’re not close!" Zheng Yitong said.

Ling Feng suddenly realized it was normal for there to be little overlap between their circles since she was an actress and he was a singer.

At that moment, several people scurried past the car window with cleavers in hand, immediately catching Ling Feng’s attention, "Damn, is the public safety on Harbor Island this bad?"

"They might be filming, or actually seeking revenge and fighting, but they usually don’t harm the innocent and only target those they have conflicts with!" Zheng Yitong explained.

Ling Feng responded with an "Oh," and was just about to ask more when Zhang He gave him a stern look, "Can you not act like a country bumpkin? Remember who you are!"

"Fine."

Ling Feng couldn’t come up with a retort and simply glared back at him.

Soon, the car arrived at the base of a large building and then entered an underground parking lot.

Some reporters seemed to recognize that it was Zheng Yitong’s car and started taking frantic photos from a distance, but unfortunately for them, the car windows were tinted with a thick film, completely obscuring the view inside.

Only after entering the underground parking lot did the environment become quiet.

It was only after they got into the elevator did Ling Feng remember, "Right, what are we here for tonight?"

"I told you, it’s an awards ceremony, have you forgotten?" Zhang He gave him an exasperated look.

"What award is being given?" Ling Feng continued to ask.

"The Movie Golden Statue Awards! Tongtong is a guest presenter!" Zhang He said.

"Holy moly, doesn’t that mean I’ll get to see lots of celebrities?" Ling Feng’s eyes widened.

Zhang He looked at him, "Exactly, so do you want to get some autographs or something?"

Ling Feng hesitated, suddenly feeling a bit tempted!

However, Zhang He immediately quashed his fantasy, "Don’t worry, you won’t get the chance!"

"Damn!"

Ling Feng gave him a disdainful look, "Who cares, as if I was dying for it?"

Zheng Yitong listened to the two men bickering and the corners of her mouth curled up slightly, but she didn’t speak.

The elevator doors opened to reveal a corridor bustling with staff members. A plump woman, upon seeing Zheng Yitong, hurried over, "You’re finally here, hurry up, President Chen is getting anxious!"

"What the hell?"

Ling Feng’s heart skipped a beat, wondering what was going on.

But Zhang He said nothing and quickly followed Zheng Yitong to another corridor, with Ling Feng hurrying behind them.

Passing through the corridor and entering through a large door, Ling Feng found himself backstage at a theater, with sets and props everywhere, staff bustling about, and many men and women dressed in various costumes, seemingly ready to perform.

Leading Zheng Yitong to the door of a room, the plump woman turned to glance at Zhang He and Ling Feng and said something in Cantonese.

Ling Feng didn’t understand, but Zhang He did and nodded, settling by the door.

After the two women entered the room and the door closed, Ling Feng asked in confusion, "What’s the deal? Your cousin’s meeting with some rich boss?"

Zhang He nodded, "Something like that."

Ling Feng’s eyes went round as saucers, "Damn, shouldn’t you be keeping an eye on things, in case they have bad intentions?"
