Chapter 896 Undercover
Chapter 896 Undercover
"Mr. Ling, there’s no need to be modest. Your divine aura is quite strong; I’m sure you will have plenty of support!" Master Kong Kong said.
Ling Feng was somewhat surprised, "Divine aura?"
"The aura of the God Race, I can feel it, and not just one strand!" Master Kong Kong said.
Ling Feng thought to himself how incredible it was; the master really was a master, able to guess that there were members of the God Race around him just by meeting him?
Just as he was about to ask the old man how he knew, Pete came running over in a hurry, shouting from a distance, "Mr. Ling, Mr. Ling!"
"What are you yelling for so early in the morning, I see you!"
Ling Feng glared at him, speaking angrily.
Pete shrank his neck and dared not speak loudly any longer. He came running over and lowered his voice, "The matter you asked me to investigate has been looked into!"
"That quick?"
Ling Feng was taken aback, then asked, "So, that Kong Sheng is really from The Holy See?"
"Yes, he joined the Order of the Temple Knights two years ago!" Pete nodded.
Ling Feng was speechless, then sighed, "This guy, how is he everywhere!"
"This man is now a captain of the Knight Order, currently in Northern Europe. Are you looking for him?" Pete asked.
"What? You want to help me find him?" Ling Feng didn’t answer directly but looked at him and asked.
Pete nodded his head, "On my way over here, I’ve already made up my mind. I don’t want the job of a missionary anymore. From now on, I’ll stick with you!"
Ling Feng was speechless, "You think you can just follow me? Did I agree?"
"You two talk, I’m going back to my room to change clothes."
Master Kong Kong said this and then left on his own.
Watching him leave, Ling Feng then looked at Pete, who had eyes wide and a face full of disappointment, "I’m not familiar with you. If you want to follow me, you need to show some sincerity!"
"You say it, as long as I can do it, I will not hesitate to die!" Pete said immediately.
Ling Feng chuckled, "You don’t need to die. Aren’t you a person from The Holy See? Later, you can just go back and help me keep an eye on Kong Sheng!"
"Ah?"
Pete was stunned, then with a shocked face, "You... you want me to go undercover?"
"Exactly, help me gather information. If you do well, I’ll let you come back and stay by my side," Ling Feng nodded.
After a moment of hesitation, Pete said with some difficulty, "But the members of the Order of the Temple Knights already know that I was captured by you. Going back now, I’m sure to be interrogated!"
"Oh, and they would even use that BH serum on you?" Ling Feng asked.
"That shouldn’t happen; the thing is too potent. Whatever I say, I’m one of them; they won’t use it on me!" Pete shook his head.
Ling Feng smiled, "Then there’s nothing to fear, right? Go back and gather information for me; I definitely won’t forget you!"
"This..."
Pete hesitated again, then as if making a huge decision, nodded firmly, "Alright, how will I contact you once I’m back?"
"Wait and I’ll give you a number; it’s a satellite phone. You can use it to send messages or call me!" Ling Feng said.
"Good, I definitely won’t let you down!" Pete said.
Ling Feng smiled and said nothing. To him, Pete was like a chicken rib, of little use; he might as well send him to The Holy See, perhaps he could be of some use?
He didn’t expect much, but if Pete could actually help him find out Kong Sheng’s whereabouts, that would be a good choice.
After that, he asked Pete to leave, then looked up at the big tree.
But before he could get up the tree, Liya and Li Fei’er arrived.
"Uncle, you’re up so early!"
Li Fei’er, rubbing her eyes, seemed like she hadn’t woken up yet.
Ling Feng laughed, "You look like you haven’t had enough sleep, why did you get up?"
"People from Buddha Master called to invite us for breakfast, and I feel Buddha Master might have something serious to discuss with you!" Liya said.
"Oh, then let’s go!"
After saying this, Ling Feng turned to leave.
But Liya added, "I won’t join you guys, I need to pay my respects to my master. I didn’t get the chance to speak with him last night."
"That’s fine, we’ll see you later then."
Ling Feng nodded, understanding the deep bond between a master and his disciple; of course, he couldn’t comment on that.
He then led Li Fei’er towards the grand hall in front of them, based on his memory from last night.
By now, the sun had risen, and the whole layout of the village finally became clear.
It was only a few steps later that Ling Feng realized this place was heavily guarded; not only were there tall wooden walls all around, but there was also a watchtower every hundred meters, staffed by people in military uniforms on duty.
"It looks like a concentration camp!" Li Fei’er muttered under her breath.
Ling Feng couldn’t help but chuckle; it really did give off that vibe!
As they walked, he said with a smile, "It’s not hard to understand, after all, they used to do business where they risked their lives. Be it the military, the police, or some criminals, they probably all have their eyes on Buddha Master."
"Why would criminals be interested in him?" Li Fei’er asked.
"Money, of course. Buddha Master has been in business for so many years, he must be very wealthy!" Ling Feng replied.
"That makes sense!" Li Fei’er nodded in agreement.
During their conversation, they arrived at the grand hall where they had dined the previous night. Upon entering, they saw only Buddha Master inside.
When Buddha Master saw Ling Feng, he immediately stood up and greeted him with a smile, "Mr. Ling is up, sorry to disturb you so early."
"Not at all, I have been up for a while!"
Ling Feng smiled and took a seat, noticing that the table was set with simple porridge and small dishes—a modest breakfast.
"I suppose Mr. Ling already knows, our amenities here are somewhat rudimentary, please don’t laugh at us!" Buddha Master said.
"How could I!"
Ling Feng laughed, then asked, "But I imagine you’re not short of money, is it that supplies are hard to come by?"
"Pretty much. Recently, the blockades by various countries around the Golden Triangle have been strict, and it is indeed hard to get supplies. But that’s only part of the reason; the other part is that I indeed don’t have much money left!" Buddha Master said with a laugh.
Ling Feng was taken aback, "How could that be?"
"Nothing is impossible. When it comes to money, no matter how much you have, it can all be spent if you choose to spend it!" Buddha Master spoke lightly.
Seeing that he didn’t seem keen to discuss how his money was gone, Ling Feng didn’t press further.
During breakfast, Buddha Master finally got to the point, "The matter I’ve asked for Mr. Ling’s help with, I can now tell you."
"Please go ahead!" Ling Feng nodded.
Buddha Master hummed in affirmation, "I know that Mr. Ling is well-versed in jade raw stone and can spot gems within. I’ve invited you because I want you to examine the mountain to the north; I’m planning to start a mine there!"
"As you know, I’m tight on funds right now, so I can’t afford to make fruitless efforts!"
Ling Feng now understood, and said with a smile, "You flatter me by trusting me so much, and since it’s a venture that will benefit the people, of course, I must help!"
