The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 855: Who Hired You?

Chapter 855: Who Hired You?

Ling Feng’s move was a bit ruthless—the car’s engine was directly sabotaged and rendered useless!

A plume of white smoke arose, and the driver inside was instantly dumbfounded.

"What are you spacing out for, get out of the car!"

Seeing the driver’s stupefied look, Ling Feng smirked and asked.

The man was terrified, shuddered, and then carefully pushed the car door open with an "Oh."

After getting out, he didn’t dare to meet Ling Feng’s eyes and stood there with his head down, his legs trembling slightly.

"Tell me, why were you following me?" Ling Feng asked.

"Someone paid and hired me to do it," the man said quietly.

"Oh?"

Ling Feng was taken aback, then inquired, "What do you do?"

"I, I am a private detective!" said the man.

"Uh..."

Ling Feng was speechless; so he wasn’t someone’s underling, huh?

Looking at the man, he furrowed his brow, "You say you’re one, but why should I believe you?"

"I, I have credentials, in the car!" the man said, looking up.

"Show me then!"

Ling Feng sighed in resignation and said.

The man hurried back into the car and fumbled for a stack of documents.

Ling Feng couldn’t read the text on them, so he handed them to Feng Ling, who after a glance said, "These are indeed detective credentials."

Ling Feng gave a wry smile and asked the man, "If I asked who hired you, you would definitely say you don’t know, right?"

"Yes, that’s right!"

The detective nodded, then added, "But it wasn’t just one party that approached me; in total, there were five groups who came to me, all asking me to investigate your whereabouts!"

"What?"

Ling Feng was so stunned he thought he had heard wrong!

"Yes, it’s true, there were really five groups!" the detective reaffirmed.

"Who are these people then? You can’t possibly not know a single one of them," Ling Feng demanded.

"There are rules in our line of work; I’m only responsible for taking the money and doing my job, and it’s not appropriate to inquire about the employer’s information!" the detective explained.

"Hmph!"

Ling Feng narrowed his eyes: "Since you don’t know, then there’s no point in keeping you around!"

"Don’t, don’t kill me!"

The detective shivered with fear and knelt on the ground with a thud.

"Give me a reason not to kill you!" Ling Feng barked angrily.

"I, I, I can help you!" The detective’s face was ashen, realizing he had provoked someone he shouldn’t have; had he known how fierce the person was, to be able to demolish a car in an instant, he wouldn’t have taken the money for this job!

Ling Feng narrowed his eyes: "Help me? How can you help me?"

"I am the most famous private detective in Guo City, those people came looking for me because they trust my abilities, so I can use their trust to provide them with false information!" the detective stated quickly.

"Oh?"

Ling Feng’s interest was piqued at this!

He then gave a slight smile and asked the man, "You took their money and you’re playing them; doesn’t that lack a bit of professional ethics?"

"Compared to staying alive, professional ethics don’t count for much," the detective said shamefacedly!

Ling Feng nodded, "That’s quite true!"

So he turned to look at the car, took a step forward, and kicked the vehicle into the woods. Then he said, "Get in the car with me!"

Having witnessed such formidable strength, the detective naturally didn’t dare utter a word of refusal and hurriedly got into the car.

Ling Feng turned the car around and headed toward the southern suburbs, glancing at the detective while driving. "What’s your name?"

"I’m Gu Li," the detective said.

"You speak Mandarin quite well, I thought you were from Huaxia!" Ling Feng remarked.

Gu Li shook his head, "I studied in Huaxia, then returned to my country to develop my career. I’ve been in this business for over a decade now."

"Oh, you don’t know the identity of the person who hired you, but you must have some guesses, right? What kind of people do they feel like?" Ling Feng asked.

"Uh, they are not local forces from Guo City, they all come from abroad. I only know that these people are not ordinary, and they are not to be mess with," Gu Li said.

Ling Feng rolled his eyes, deeming the information as worthless, no better than saying nothing at all!

So he didn’t ask any more about the clients, instead, he looked at him and said, "Then how do you plan to help me?"

"They want me to provide your itinerary, who you’ve met, where you’ve been. I can just make something up!" Gu Li said.

"Fine, later I’ll watch you while you fabricate. If it’s not good enough, I’ll still have to settle the score with you!" Ling Feng said with a cold laugh.

"Don’t, don’t worry, I’ll make sure it’s good!" Gu Li quickly assured.

The car sped through the sunset, and after about half an hour, they finally drew near the abandoned farm.

Since Ling Feng didn’t know the situation there, he didn’t rashly approach, stopping the car in a concealed spot amidst the trees before getting out.

Gu Li looked bewildered at this point, surveying the surroundings and cautiously asked, "Mister Ling, what are we doing here?"

"Looking for someone!" Ling Feng simply replied.

With that, he turned to Li Fei’er and said, "Let Yellow out for a scouting mission, it’s less likely to raise suspicion."

"Sure!"

Li Fei’er nodded, with a flick of her little hand, Yellow appeared before everyone.

The sudden appearance of the large yellow dog startled Gu Li, nearly making him shout out in alarm!

Fortunately, a glare from Ling Feng kept the young man from crying out.

Li Fei’er gave Yellow some instructions, and with a nod, the dog darted into the bushes, heading straight for the farm hundreds of meters away.

After a moment of stunned silence, Gu Li said in a low voice, "Mister Ling, there are indeed people here, very formidable ones at that. I’m afraid your big yellow dog might encounter danger!"

"How do you know there are people here?" Ling Feng asked with narrowed eyes.

Gu Li: "I was involved in the sale of this place. It was a group of foreigners who bought it!"

"You double as a real estate agent?" Ling Feng inquired.

Scratching his head, Gu Li chuckled sheepishly, "Whatever makes money, I’ll do a bit of it."

Ling Feng was speechless and then continued, "What was the supposed reason for their purchase, and how long ago did they buy it?"

"It was some foundation, and they’ve had it for three months now. At the time, I thought those foreigners were a bit foolish, buying an abandoned farm with no water or electricity. I wondered if they just had too much money and nowhere to spend it!" Gu Li explained.

"Hmph, they are not foolish at all!"

Ling Feng sneered, and then asked, "What’s the name of that foundation?"

"The American Freedom Foundation!"

Before Gu Li could reply, a woman’s voice came from a distance.

Then, Zhou Yi slowly walked over.

Upon seeing her, Ling Feng was taken aback, "Why are you here?"

"I’m investigating the Holy Light Society, and the trail led me here. What about you?" Zhou Yi asked.

"What a coincidence, I’m tracking down Sun Shaofeng. It looks like the kid has joined forces with the Holy Light Society!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.

However, Zhou Yi shook her head, "It’s not that simple, this place isn’t under the control of the Holy Light Society!"
