Chapter 699 Continue Exploring

Ling Feng smiled, "You’re right!"

Then, he added, "Since we’re trapped here, I can take the opportunity to learn more about you!"

"..."

An Xue’s face turned red all of a sudden.

She knew she shouldn’t overthink things, but she couldn’t help it, her thoughts straying instantly.

The fish was ready, and Ling Feng handed one to her, "Try it and see how it tastes."

An Xue took it in her hands and immediately bit into the snow-white fish flesh; then her eyes lit up: "Delicious!"

"That’s great!"

Ling Feng smiled and also picked up a fish to taste.

Indeed, the fish flesh was exquisitely delicious, it didn’t even need salt, as it had a subtle saltiness of its own.

Four fish were clearly not enough; seeing how happily An Xue was eating, Ling Feng roasted two more for her.

The wilderness was dark, with only a glimmer of firelight at the entrance of the cave, but it didn’t affect their mood at all.

After eating their fill, Ling Feng looked at An Xue, "Feeling sleepy?"

"Not really, are you thinking of resting?"

An Xue lowered her head, asking cautiously.

"I’m also okay. If you’re not sleepy, how about we chat?" Ling Feng suggested.

"Sure, what would you like to talk about?" asked An Xue.

Ling Feng smiled, "Wasn’t it about getting to know you more? Let’s talk about your childhood."

"Oh."

An Xue nodded, hugged her knees, and gazed out at the sky, reminiscing, "I was a particularly slow child, I didn’t start talking until I was five, and I hardly remember anything from before I was four..."

Ling Feng watched her with a smile, finding this girl quite endearing.

An Xue quickly finished talking about her life, which was almost as blank as a sheet of paper, and turned to look at him: "Your turn!"

"Me?"

Ling Feng was taken aback, seeing her smile at him with twinkling eyes, he had no choice but to say, "Alright."

After a moment’s thought, Ling Feng smiled and said, "Actually, I was also a very ordinary child growing up..."

An Xue listened intently, her large eyes fixed on Ling Feng’s face, her gaze steadfast, somewhat entranced.

As they talked, time flew by, and just as Ling Feng was about to recount the time he accidentally obtained a legacy, she yawned, "I’m getting a bit sleepy."

"Okay, then let’s rest early."

Ling Feng thought to himself that it was just as well, so he wouldn’t have to explain how he started to rise.

After tidying up a bit, he looked at An Xue, "Do you want to sleep further inside, or just at the entrance?"

An Xue replied, "Just here is fine, with the fire, it won’t be cold."

"Alright, you sleep inside, and I’ll sleep outside to keep watch," Ling Feng said with a smile.

An Xue looked at him and remained silent.

Actually, what she wanted was for them to sleep side by side for a better sense of security.

But how could a girl say such a thing?

So, she could only lie down on the other side of the firepit, carrying a sense of loss.

Ling Feng wasn’t very sleepy, but the night had deepened; what else could he do if not sleep?

So, he too lay down, gazing at the night sky, lost in thought.

After a long while, An Xue asked softly, "Are you asleep yet?"

"No."

"What are you thinking about?"

Ling Feng turned his head to look at her, noticing her bright eyes shining in the dark, and replied with a wry smile, "This place might really not be Earth."

"Hm?"

An Xue was startled, "Why do you say that?"

"Look at that night sky; there isn’t a single star. If I’m not mistaken, this might be a completely different world!" Ling Feng explained.

An Xue let out an "Oh," then asked wistfully, "Does that mean we might not be able to go back?"

Ling Feng sighed, "I don’t know either."

In An Xue’s heart, she felt that not being able to return might actually be a good thing.

Because as long as she was with Ling Feng, that was enough.

However, she also knew that Ling Feng definitely didn’t think the same, so with a hint of curiosity, she couldn’t help but ask, "Do you, miss Shiyun and the others?"

"..."

Ling Feng was silent for a moment, "I’m just worried they might be concerned."

"Oh."

An Xue didn’t speak again, and the surroundings quickly fell silent.

After a while, she drifted off to sleep.

Hearing the faint sound of her snoring, Ling Feng turned to look at her and said nothing.

When morning came, and An Xue opened her eyes, Ling Feng had already prepared breakfast.

Coconut juice, grilled fish, food, and drink.

An Xue was initially very happy, but then her expression soured, "It’s a shame there’s no water, I can’t even wash my face."

"There’s a stream in the forest below, let’s go down the mountain to wash after eating!" Ling Feng said.

"Great!"

An Xue was thrilled, ate a grilled fish, and drank a coconut.

After tidying up, the two prepared to go down the mountain.

Ling Feng checked to make sure nothing was left behind before leaving. An Xue asked curiously, "Are we not coming back?"

"Not sure yet, if we find a place to live in the valley, we won’t come back here," Ling Feng nodded.

An Xue felt a wave of sadness in her heart; though nothing had happened the night before, this was still the first place she and Ling Feng had been alone together, so leaving was a bit hard to bear.

But she didn’t say anything, just acknowledged with an "Oh."

The path down the mountain was tricky, and Ling Feng held An Xue’s hand, afraid she might accidentally fall.

However, the shoes the lass had made herself fit well and were not inconvenient at all; they soon made their way down the mountain.

After entering the jungle, they quickly came to a stream.

Ling Feng found a stick and tested the water, making sure there were no meat-eating fish before letting An Xue go wash her face.

Moments later, she stood up with her face covered in water droplets and said with a grin, "I’m done washing, your turn!"

"I’ll pass, no need for a man to be so vain," Ling Feng laughed.

"No way!"

An Xue pouted, "This isn’t about vanity; you get a lot of dirt on your face after a night’s sleep!"

"Alright then."

Ling Feng gave in and crouched to wash his face.

Afterward, they started a new round of exploration.

To find a way out as soon as possible, Ling Feng moved quickly, and An Xue couldn’t keep up after a while.

It wasn’t an issue with the shoes, but her physical endurance was just that of an ordinary person; how could she compare to Ling Feng?

So as they walked, noticing the lack of sound behind him, Ling Feng looked back and found he had left her a dozen meters behind.

Seeing this, Ling Feng quickly returned to her side, "Tired, huh?"

"A little,"

An Xue didn’t want to admit it, but her legs felt like they were filled with lead, indeed very uncomfortable, so she had to nod.

"Then, I’ll carry you on my back!"

Ling Feng thought for a moment, not wanting to delay because of this, so he turned around and squatted down.

An Xue was stunned!

She couldn’t remember even her father carrying her on his back as she grew up!

So with a flushed face, she hesitated for a moment before climbing onto Ling Feng’s back.

Their bodies were pressed tightly together, and Ling Feng couldn’t help but ask, "Why is your heartbeat so fast?"

An Xue was speechless and didn’t answer, thinking to herself that he should guess!
