Chapter 623: A Bit Annoying
Chapter 623: A Bit Annoying
Upon arriving at the bureau, Chen Ping saw Ling Feng and asked, "Tell me, what do you need my help with this time?"
"Heh heh, they say you’re the Director for a reason, you really do have a sharp eye!" Ling Feng chuckled.
"Cut the crap, if you’re visiting me late at night, it’s definitely not to bring me a gift, just spit it out!" Chen Ping glared at him.
Ling Feng laughed: "Well, you see, I want to catch someone."
"???"
Chen Ping’s face was full of question marks; he didn’t understand at all!
"The person is abroad, and I can’t just run that far to catch him, and even if I did, I wouldn’t know how to bring him back, so I was wondering if our bureau has any methods..." Ling Feng said with an awkward smile.
"..."
After hearing this, three black lines appeared on Chen Ping’s forehead as he asked incredulously, "What do you think the Security Bureau is for? Running around the world catching people for you?"
He paused for a moment, then looked into Ling Feng’s eyes. "Ling Feng, you have merits in our bureau, but you can’t be spoiled and arrogant, making any demands you like!"
"Director, aren’t you even going to ask why I’m looking for this person?"
Ling Feng smiled and then said, "If you still feel the same after hearing me out, you can say that I’m overstepping my bounds."
"Then speak!"
Chen Ping, after hearing him say this, could only listen patiently and nod, thinking that no matter what grand story Ling Feng came up with, the higher-ups surely wouldn’t care about his ridiculous demands!
Instead of going straight to the point, Ling Feng smiled and asked, "Director, do you know why I’ve been able to provide the bureau with so much meat rich in spiritual energy?"
Chen Ping was taken aback. "I don’t know, and you wouldn’t tell me when I asked!"
"Now I can reveal a bit to you."
Ling Feng smiled slightly, "Director, you should know about the existence of other spaces in this world, right?"
Chen Ping nodded. "I do know that. The Secret Realm that the Li Family guards is one such place, and the higher-ups have been researching this matter!"
"Hmm, if I told you that some spaces are not on Earth and the flora and fauna there are different from ours, would you accept that?" Ling Feng continued to ask.
Chen Ping looked at him. "What exactly are you trying to say? Can you stop beating around the bush?"
"I’m not beating around the bush. I need to start from the beginning for you to understand the significance of this matter!" Ling Feng laughed.
"Fine, I can accept that. Continue!" Chen Ping nodded.
"What I’m about to discuss is the incident that occurred previously in the Demon Capital!"
Ling Feng then recounted how Lin Huaqiang had been poisoned, and how he had discovered that the poison didn’t originate from Earth.
He also talked about the appearance of mysterious individuals, as well as the matters concerning the Spirit Stone and the jade bracelet.
After hearing everything, Chen Ping fell silent.
His eyebrows had formed a deep frown, tightly knitted together as he went over everything Ling Feng had told him once more.
Ling Feng wasn’t in a rush and just watched him, waiting for him to speak.
After a while, Chen Ping looked up, a sharp glint in his eyes. "Are you saying that the person who poisoned Lin Hua is likely from another space?"
"That’s a strong possibility!"
Ling Feng nodded. "That’s the worst-case scenario. If not, then those people merely have a very special space like mine, where they have mastered the toxicity of Crimson Root Grass, using it to harm others. Even so, the matter is still of great concern!"
"I understand what you’re saying!"
Chen Ping pondered for a moment, "These people are secretive and of unknown origin, and they indeed seem like the targets our Security Bureau should be in charge of investigating!"
"Exactly!" Ling Feng spread his hands, "The most important thing is that this bunch isn’t up to any good. If they were like me, making contributions to the country, dedicating their youth and strength, that would be one thing, but they’re harming others!"
"Go on! Stop flattering yourself!"
Chen Ping glared at him, then nodded, "I’m aware of the situation now, but as you know, my authority is limited to our own turf here. For overseas matters, we need the higher-ups to give the green light!"
"I know, I’m one of your soldiers after all. This matter has to be reported to the higher-ups through you!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.
This bit of flattery was somewhat clever because once the matter was exposed, it would definitely be taken very seriously by the higher-ups.
And once it came under scrutiny, when the time came to acknowledge contributions after resolution, Chen Ping would certainly be credited with the first merit!
So now, a smile appeared on his face, and his gaze at Ling Feng softened a lot, looking very much like he approved, "I’ll contact the headquarters right away. You go back and wait for my news!"
"Alright, director, please hurry. The Chu family is still watching Yu Nan’s movements. I’m afraid that kid might vanish from the face of the Earth after selling the Spirit Stone!" Ling Feng reminded him.
Chen Ping narrowed his eyes, "Don’t worry, I know the priorities!"
...
...
Ling Feng returned home and went straight to Zhou Yi’s house after parking his car.
Chu Nan and Lin Huaqiang were living there, and it was already late, they would soon be going to rest.
He briefed the three of them on the situation. Chu Nan nodded, "We should have news by tomorrow morning. Don’t think about it for now, go back and rest!"
It was only then that Ling Feng returned to his home, lay on the bed, and thought about his last trip to Demon Capital. He had thought it was just a simple exchange of the Spirit Stone for something else, but, unexpectedly, it had led to so many issues!
"Who could it be?"
Ling Feng mumbled to himself. The woman in the hospital and her accomplices—who were they, and what was their purpose? They had become a persistent worry on his mind.
After getting up the next morning, Ling Feng didn’t do anything but wait for Chen Ping’s call.
Unfortunately, even by eight o’clock in the morning, there was still no news.
Just as Ling Feng couldn’t help but think of calling back to check on the situation, Li Shiyun came over with a plate.
Seeing the redness in Ling Feng’s eyes, she asked in surprise, "What’s happened with you? Didn’t you sleep last night?"
"I did, just didn’t sleep well," he replied.
Ling Feng forced a smile and, spotting the plate she was holding, asked, "What’s that?"
"I just made some pastries, try them," Li Shiyun said with a smile.
Seeing her smile, Ling Feng felt a warmth in his heart, and without caring about the pastries, he wrapped his arms around her. In that embrace, he felt instantly comforted.
Resting his head against Li Shiyun’s chest, he didn’t harbor any wrongful thoughts but simply breathed in her subtle fragrance, whispering afterwards, "You are truly wonderful."
Li Shiyun, noticing Ling Feng’s preoccupation, smiled softly, "Don’t rush when you encounter problems, be steady. Sooner or later, you’ll find a way out!"
"That’s the idea, but I can’t help thinking about it. It seems like troubles keep piling up lately, it’s so annoying!" Ling Feng said with a frown.
"Have some pastries, maybe that will ease your worries a bit."
Li Shiyun lifted the cover from the plate, picked up a piece of crystal-clear, square-shaped pastry, and offered it to him, "Open your mouth."
