Chapter 528: Killing the Octopus
Chapter 528: Killing the Octopus
Ling Feng chuckled, knowing that was exactly the kind of reaction to expect. After all, anyone would be startled by the prospect of several hundred thousand bullets.
So after his laugh, he hurriedly said, "Don’t get so worked up. From what I’ve heard, you can’t manage several hundred thousand, but a small quantity is still doable, right?"
"What on earth are you planning to do?" Zhang He asked, his tone filled with frustration.
"That’s for me to know. Anyway, you can’t expect to refine elixirs for nothing; you’ve got to help me out with this!" Ling Feng replied with a smile.
Zhang He fell silent for a moment, clearly annoyed, and then said, "How did I end up with someone like you!"
After another pause, he continued, "I’ll do what I can. I’ll get as many as I’m able to, okay?"
"That works, but if you just get me a few hundred to fob me off, that wouldn’t be very decent of you!" Ling Feng warned.
"Don’t worry, I’m not that petty. Wait for my news!"
With that, Zhang He hung up the phone.
Ling Feng smiled, feeling quite satisfied.
The bullets he got from Chen Ping were nowhere near enough for what he needed; they would be spent in a flash. These things were consumables, and they ran out way too fast. How could he not stock up?
Now he had extorted some from Zhang He, and if he got the chance later, he’d get Wang Laogen to fetch some from overseas. Wouldn’t that mean he could do whatever he wanted in the Fourth Layer Heaven?
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. Ling Feng gathered his gear and teleported straight to the Nine Heavens.
He glanced at the entrance to the First Layer of Heaven, hesitated for a moment, but decided to deal with the giant octopus first. So, he picked up his gun and entered the Fourth Layer.
Time had passed, but the giant octopus hadn’t disappeared and was still lying around in the distance.
Ling Feng grinned and turned to look at Wang Cai and the other two, "I’ll handle the attacking. You guys draw its attention. Got it?"
"Awooo!"
Wang Cai, who seemed eager for revenge, didn’t hesitate to howl at the sky.
The morale was high. Ling Feng, holding the Gatling gun, felt heroic and charged towards it!
In an instant, he approached the giant octopus, which seemed to sense something and slowly rose from the ground. Its eight legs thudded on the ground as it charged forward!
Wang Cai and Xiao Qiang took the lead, baring their white fangs!
At the same time, a white light flashed on the octopus’s head, and that beam of white light activated once again.
Seeing that, Ling Feng immediately pulled the trigger!
"Dada Dada!"
A burst of gunfire aimed straight at the octopus’s head. This time, he loaded ordinary bullets, but their power was no less formidable.
The searing bullets formed a line of fire, tearing a gash on the octopus’s head!
"Badass!"
Seeing how easily its defense was breached, Ling Feng was overjoyed. He kept his finger on the trigger, releasing hundreds of rounds as if they cost nothing!
However, surprisingly, despite the severe damage to the octopus, it didn’t fall and die. Instead, it turned its head, and the stone on top shone with a fierce luster, brightness increasing tenfold, even a hundredfold. Ling Feng’s eyes were almost too dazzled to stay open!
"Damn it, is this thing about to use its ultimate move?"
Seeing the ominous sign, Ling Feng yelled "Retreat!" and turned to run.
The scent of charred material wafted over, a smell emitted by the stone as it melted.
Feeling the scorching heat at his back, Ling Feng didn’t dare to look back, running for his life toward the entrance.
Not until he reached the spot did he look back, only to be immediately dumbstruck.
The giant octopus was emitting a continuous beam of light from its head, which had scorched the area within several tens of meters into a huge pit!
Even more terrifying were the molten rocks in the crater, emitting billowing heat, clearly hot enough to scald a person to death!
"This is just too damn hard, isn’t it?"
Glancing down at Wang Cai and the others, although the three critters weren’t injured, their fur was all curled up as if they’d had their hair permed.
Speechless, Ling Feng watched as the giant octopus finished its massive attack and began to turn back, seemingly wanting to return to the hole from which it had emerged. In a flash, he felt a surge of urgency!
If it made it back to its lair, who knew when it would come out again?
So, gritting his teeth, he instructed Wang Cai and the others to wait there, and then he charged back into the fray alone!
In the blink of an eye, he arrived at the edge of the crater. The intense heat made his face burn, but Ling Feng, still enduring the pain, leapt over it, firing off a burst of bullets that struck two of the octopus’s legs.
The immense force of the impact tore open large gashes in the legs, causing the creature to stagger. It then turned fiercely, launching a white beam!
Ling Feng, who was well-prepared, leapt up and in mid-air, he threw a grenade!
Today he was going to exhaust the creature— he had to kill it!
With that determination, while still in the air, his gun spat out another burst of flames.
"I just don’t buy it, how could you not die after being riddled with bullets?"
Explosions, gunfire boomed across the vast Gobi Desert, carrying far and wide.
Minutes later, it was unclear which bullet had hit the octopus’s vital spot, but its body suddenly stiffened, then went limp, and it collapsed with a thunderous crash.
Overjoyed at the sight, Ling Feng stopped and observed for a few seconds. Once he was sure the octopus was indeed dead, he dropped his gun and quickly ran over.
The octopus’s body was riddled with bullet holes— flesh turned inside out and looking quite gruesome.
But what concerned Ling Feng the most was not this. It was the stone on top of its head.
Stepping on the limp body of the octopus, he hopped to the top and crouched to take a look.
It was a milky white stone the size of a dinner plate, embedded in the top of the octopus’s head— it was unclear whether it was a natural part of the creature or had been affixed later on.
Either way, knowing it was a treasure, Ling Feng didn’t think twice. He took out the God Slayer Saber and quickly pried it out.
He held it in his palm, feeling the smoothness of the stone.
This oval stone looked like jade, but was softer than jade. Ling Feng looked at it and couldn’t identify what it was, so he carefully put it into his pocket.
Looking down at the octopus’s corpse again, the huge pile of flesh must have weighed at least five or six tons— over ten thousand pounds!
Ling Feng shook his head with regret, "What a waste, what a waste!"
The food packaging plant hadn’t been set up, so this creature could only rot here, a real waste.
Jumping down to the ground and picking up the Gatling gun he had tossed aside, Ling Feng then realized the intense battle had depleted more than three thousand bullets, and he shook his head in resignation.
At this rate of consumption, without a munitions factory, he might indeed run out of supplies!
"Hopefully I won’t encounter such a bullet-wasting critter again in the future," he mused.
After a wry smile, Ling Feng shouldered his gun and returned to the entrance.
