The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 450: Something Out of the Ordinary

Chapter 450: Something Out of the Ordinary

"Speaking of which, it’s quite a coincidence!"

Huaihua chuckled with a hint of pride, "Last time, the school organized an interview for graduating students, and I went along with a senior from my dorm to check it out. Just by chance, I met this sister there!"

"And then?"

Ling Feng knew she wanted to share with him, so he asked with interest.

"She said that she thought highly of me from the very first glance and asked if I would like to help out in her company. Sadly, I haven’t graduated yet, so I can only work part-time, going to her company every weekend!"

"Oh, they don’t have weekends off in her company?" Ling Feng asked.

"They do, but there’s always someone on duty, and I help out with whatever needs doing. She gives me several hundred bucks each time!" Huaihua said smilingly.

Ling Feng was taken aback, "That’s quite generous!"

Huaihua nodded, "Right? That’s why I said this sister has been really good to me!"

"Indeed she has!"

Ling Feng nodded, but he didn’t quite think so in his heart.

He found something odd about the situation. Huaihua came from the countryside, and while she might be clever, she certainly wasn’t as savvy as city kids. It felt suspicious that someone would be so kind to her after only meeting once, as if they might have an ulterior motive!

But such thoughts were certainly not appropriate to voice, so he could only turn them over in his mind, maintaining silence on the surface.

At that point, the two of them arrived under the big walnut tree and sat down on the grass. Ling Feng, smiling, asked, "What’s the name of that sister of yours?"

"Her name is Zhou Yi, ’Yi’ as in elegance."

Ling Feng uttered an "Oh," "When the school term starts, if I have the chance, I’ll go to the provincial city too, and maybe pay her a visit to express my thanks!"

"Uh, would that be appropriate?" Huaihua blinked and asked.

"Of course it’s appropriate. I’m your brother, and it’s only right for me to thank her for being so kind to my sister," Ling Feng replied with a smile, draping an arm around her shoulders.

Huaihua’s face flushed, and she lowered her head slightly, "Okay then, it’s getting late now, shouldn’t I head back?"

"Back home? Just stay right here!" Ling Feng said.

"Is that really okay? My mom would surely overthink it." Huaihua’s face grew even redder, now unable to lift her head.

After all, she was still a young girl, and nothing had happened between them yet, so it was natural for her to feel anxious.

Seeing this, Ling Feng smiled, "Well, that’s fine too. I’ll escort you out later. Come over again tomorrow if you’re free."

By nine o’clock in the evening, the two returned home, after which Ling Feng escorted Huaihua back to her place.

After watching her enter her house, he turned and made his way home, taking out his phone to call Zhang Lan.

But the call went unanswered, with the ringtone echoing for a full minute.

With no choice left, Ling Feng dialed Li Yun’s number.

This time, the call connected immediately. She asked in a hushed voice, "What’s up?"

"I’m in the provincial city, here to cash in on that promise!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.

There was a pause on Li Yun’s end before she responded with a hint of resignation, "Stop joking, I know you’re not here!"

"Huh? How do you know?"

Ling Feng, who had intended to tease her, was surprised by her response and asked curiously.

Li Yun’s voice was very low on the other end, yet carried a note of smugness, "Though I’m not in Shiliu Village, I’m very much aware of your comings and goings!"

"Oh? Who is it? Who’s betraying me?" Ling Feng asked.

Li Yun laughed in a low voice, "You can stop wondering, I’m not going to tell you!"

"Alright then."

Ling Feng was speechless, realizing that he couldn’t scare her, he decided to get down to business, "I need your help with something."

"You, such a busy person, actually have something to ask of me?" Li Yun was somewhat surprised.

"Yeah, there’s a woman in the provincial city named Zhou Yi who is said to have a fortune of over ten billion. Could you help me look into her?" Ling Feng asked.

"Zhou Yi?"

Li Yun was taken aback and after pondering for a moment, said, "I’ve never heard of such a person. What do you want to investigate her for? Are you thinking of pursuing her?"

Ling Feng was speechless. "Of course not, I’m just curious, that’s all. I want to see what she does for a living. Can you help me find out?"

"Oh, tomorrow then. I’ll ask someone tomorrow," Li Yun said.

Ling Feng hummed in acknowledgment, then asked, "How’s Old Third Luo doing now?"

"Fine, that’s enough, I’m not saying any more."

Li Yun seemed very sensitive about the question, saying just one sentence before hanging up the phone.

Looking at the darkened screen, Ling Feng was at a loss for words, shaking his head helplessly.

This woman still couldn’t let go; she even felt guilty for making a phone call. It seemed like if I wanted to win her over, I would have to wait until Luo Nanlin passed away.

As he walked toward his house, before he could reach the door, his phone rang. It was Zhang Lan calling. Ling Feng answered, "Sister Lan, what are you busy with?"

"Why are you looking for my mom?"

The voice of Luo Qianyu, full of anger, came through from the other end of the line.

Ling Feng was startled, then chuckled, "My dear niece, I’m looking for Sister Lan because I have a matter, of course. Why are you, a little brat, asking so many questions?"

"Shut up, you bastard. You’re so annoying! Don’t you dare call me that!" Luo Qianyu said irritably.

"Who let you answer the phone? If you hadn’t picked up, how would you have heard my voice?" Ling Feng laughed.

"You!"

Luo Qianyu was so angry she was gritting her teeth, and through the receiver, Ling Feng could sense her fury, as if her hair was standing on end.

Just as he was about to tease her some more, Zhang Lan’s soft voice came through the receiver, "What’s the matter, Ling Feng?"

"Sis, I wanted to ask you something, but since you didn’t answer the phone, I asked Li Yun for help," Ling Feng said.

"Oh."

Zhang Lan understood and couldn’t help but ask curiously, "What’s it about?"

"I’m looking to learn about a woman named Zhou Yi. Have you heard of her?" Ling Feng asked.

"Zhou Yi?"

Similar to Li Yun’s reaction, Zhang Lan was also taken aback, then pondered for a while before saying, "I haven’t heard of her. What about her?"

"Nothing much, just got a bit curious, so I wanted to ask about her background. If you don’t know, that’s fine," Ling Feng said with a smile.

"Alright then, since you’ve asked Li Yun, she should be able to help you check. If she can’t find anything, it probably means Zhou Yi is new to the provincial city and hasn’t been here long," Zhang Lan said.

Ling Feng hummed in acknowledgment, chatted casually for a couple of more sentences, then hung up the phone.

Once inside his home and back on his bed, Ling Feng held his head and began to think, feeling increasingly that something was amiss!

In the provincial city with a net worth of over ten billion, yet neither Zhang Lan nor Li Yun had heard of her—was this woman really so mysterious?

The saying goes, "There’s something fishy when things are odd." Ling Feng felt an ever-growing sense of a conspiracy.

Unable to sleep, he sat up, took out his phone, found Wang Laogen’s number, and gave him a call.

After connecting, the old man’s chuckling voice came through, "Calling me so late at night instead of spending time with your lovely wife, what do you need me for?"

"Where have you been lately? Got something I want to ask you."

"I’m in the provincial city, researching that Spirit Stone of yours!" Wang Laogen replied.
