Chapter 1626 - 1625: Familiar Faces

Chapter 1626 - 1625: Familiar Faces

It’s currently polar day in Antarctica, so even though it’s already six in the afternoon, the sun has yet to set.

Having waited a whole day, feeling that the military ship should have arrived by now, Ling Feng emerged from the ice cave, stood on the glacier, and looked around.

Knowing he’s getting impatient, Long Xiaoyu came out with him and asked, "Is it almost here?"

"It should be. According to the plan, their icebreaker should have arrived by now. No idea why there’s no movement yet!" Ling Feng replied.

Long Xiaoyu glanced at him, "Why the rush? We’re already here, just wait patiently!"

"There’s nothing else we can do."

Ling Feng forced a smile; just as he was about to say something, a slight tremor came from the ice underfoot!

Though the tremor wasn’t very discernible, both he and Long Xiaoyu noticed it immediately.

The two exchanged glances and simultaneously turned their heads in the direction the tremor originated from.

A few kilometers away, a small black dot appeared.

The tremors underfoot grew more frequent, clearly an icebreaker was carving through the glacier, Ling Feng squinted and said, "Finally, it’s here!"

"But where’s the military ship?" Long Xiaoyu asked.

"Still at sea, probably hesitating because the glacier hasn’t been properly cleared for passage yet?" Ling Feng speculated.

After taking a couple more glances, his anxious mood dissipated, so he turned to Long Xiaoyu and continued, "Alright, since the ship has arrived, we need not be in a hurry; let’s go back and wait!"

"Okay."

Long Xiaoyu nodded and returned to the ice cave with him.

Just waiting like hunters, the three of them weren’t in a rush, patiently waiting inside the ice cave.

A few hours later, as evening was falling, the glacier’s vibrations suddenly ceased.

Ling Feng got up, stepped outside, only to see that the icebreaker had come to within a few kilometers of them.

A wide swath of the glacier had been cut, seawater spreading in, creating a channel at least a dozen kilometers long.

Seeing this, Ling Feng turned to look at Mu Yuhan who came out with him, "Aren’t the Americans going a bit too far with this?"

"More than just a bit."

Mu Yuhan frowned deeply, "They’re destroying the ecological balance. Once seawater flows in, the surrounding glaciers will quickly melt. When that happens, these ice blocks will drift away with the ocean currents and melt quickly too, further contributing to sea level rise!"

"That’s right, these guys are totally irresponsible!"

Ling Feng nodded, squinting at the icebreaker.

The other side had stopped working, apparently taking a break, since the military ship carrying Peter was still nowhere in sight.

Watching this unfold, Ling Feng said to Long Xiaoyu and Mu Yuhan, "You two wait here; I’ll go check out the ship!"

"Alright, you go ahead."

Long Xiaoyu nodded.

"Take care, Ling Ge!" Mu Yuhan said.

Ling Feng laughed, "Don’t worry, it’ll be fine!"

With that, he activated the Invisibility Ring, disappearing right in front of the two women.

Then Ling Feng sprinted across the glacier, quickly reaching the vicinity of the icebreaker.

This ship stood isolated in front of the glacier, the deck silent.

Ling Feng didn’t rush onboard but immediately scanned it with his Divine Sense.

As a result, within the ship’s cabin, he saw a group of uniformed personnel.

These were all crew members, all western faces, presently dining and drinking in the ship’s mess hall.

After scanning around, finding no familiar faces, Ling Feng realized Peter wasn’t there, feeling a bit disappointed, he turned to leave.

Just then, a rumble of engines reached his ears. He turned to find a small boat coming through the sea channel cut by the icebreaker!

The small boat wasn’t large, only seating a few people. A quick scan with his Divine Sense, and Ling Feng immediately recognized two familiar faces, Aflek and Smith!

"Well, isn’t this a coincidence?"

Ling Feng paused, muttering to himself.

He stood still, watching the boat approach the icebreaker, and watched them climb aboard using a rope ladder.

Seeing this scene, Ling Feng’s curiosity was piqued.

He considered boarding immediately to capture Smith and getting answers to many of his questions right away!

But just as he was about to act, Ling Feng hesitated.

He thought if he did that, his cover would be blown.

This Smith was American, clearly a very loyal individual to their country, from Big Black Mountain in North Africa, to the Middle East searching for the Miracle Stone, and now to Antarctica, the man has been tirelessly serving his nation’s interests!

So Ling Feng knew that even if he forced Smith to yield with strength to get the information he wanted, Smith, as long as he survived, would immediately report his presence to his superiors!

After some thought, Ling Feng decided not to board the ship.

Extracting information and keeping someone silent is easy, but since this is the only person they have to communicate with, it’s better to keep him around for a while longer.

Watching Smith and Aflek join the crew for eating and drinking, Ling Feng turned and left, returning to the ice cave.

After briefing the two women on the situation, Mu Yuhan said, "It seems they’re planning to rest for a while and then continue breaking ice. It looks like the military ship isn’t coming tonight for sure!"

"Yes, that’s how it seems, so let’s rest for now and discuss it tomorrow!" Ling Feng nodded.

The ice cave, though not large, could accommodate the three of them for rest. As it was already very late, Ling Feng took out sleeping bags, spreading them out, and everyone lay down.

Though Mu Yuhan was by his side, Long Xiaoyu was the first to cuddle into Ling Feng’s embrace.

Mu Yuhan blushed, quickly turning over to face away from them, avoiding any awkwardness.

Ling Feng was left speechless, holding Long Xiaoyu and gently patting her on the shoulder, saying nothing.

Just as they thought they could get some sleep, unexpectedly, faint tremors from the ice resumed—the icebreaker had started operating again.

Feeling the tremors, Ling Feng was quite exasperated, the Americans sure were diligent!

Seeing that Long Xiaoyu was also unable to sleep, staring straight at him, he couldn’t help but whisper, "Is it too noisy?"

"It’s not just the noise; with the glacier trembling too, how can anyone sleep?" Long Xiaoyu pouted, helplessly saying.

"Hmm, if you can’t sleep, then let’s get up!"

Ling Feng chuckled bitterly and then sat up.

Long Xiaoyu sat up as well, the two of them gazed at Mu Yuhan.

But she was sleeping soundly, completely unaffected.

"Being an ordinary person isn’t so bad, at least they’re not as sensitive." Long Xiaoyu said.

Ling Feng smiled, got up, and said, "Let’s go have a look outside, maybe the military ship’s in now!"

Long Xiaoyu nodded, and together they left the ice cave to the glacier outside.
