The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 1499 - 1498: Observation

Chapter 1499 - 1498: Observation

The car windows were tinted, making it impossible to see inside from the outside.

Yet, Lin Yu still keenly sensed something amiss. After those two Taoists passed by, he turned to Ling Feng, sitting in the passenger seat. "Director, those two seem very alert!"

"It might be instinct, or they may just be curious because they haven’t seen your car before."

Ling Feng chuckled, his divine sense already enveloping the two individuals.

As they walked past the car on the road heading into town, they were chatting along the way.

Unfortunately, what they said was completely incomprehensible!

Ling Feng had heard the local dialect before. Even though it has a strong nasal tone, it’s still somewhat understandable. However, the language those two Taoists spoke was evidently not the local dialect.

Therefore, trying to understand what they were saying was out of the question.

Nevertheless, Ling Feng could tell from their expressions that the two did not harbor any suspicion towards the car.

So he said to Lin Yu, "Once those two return, you can head back to rest."

"It’s okay, I don’t feel tired. It’s better to observe more during the daytime. Since there are so many people in the Taoist temple, they are bound to come out and move around. It’s a good chance to observe more!" Lin Yu replied.

"Alright then."

Ling Feng did not insist, nodding as he checked the time.

Twenty minutes later, the two Taoists returned.

They were carrying a lot of food and vegetables; it turns out they had gone to buy supplies.

This time, they didn’t even glance at the car by the roadside and directly crossed the river back to the Taoist temple.

Seeing this, Ling Feng said to Lin Yu, "You keep watch; I’m going into town to take a look!"

Lin Yu nodded, "Alright."

Getting out of the car, Ling Feng, hands in pockets, stepped into the town.

The town appeared small, but the main street had numerous crisscrossing alleyways, with many residents still living there.

The main street was lined with shops on both sides, selling all the essential goods for food, clothing, housing, and transportation.

The first floors were storefronts, and the second floors were residences, nearly an entire street followed this pattern.

As Ling Feng walked and looked around, he searched for a suitable house to temporarily rent. Even if it’s just for three to five days, there needs to be a place to stay; they couldn’t just keep everyone in the car.

Perhaps it was luck, but after only walking a few dozen meters, he saw a piece of A4 paper taped to a window on a two-story building, with the words ’House for Rent’ written on it.

Ling Feng stepped into the first floor, which was a grocery store, and upon entering, asked, "Boss, is the house for rent?"

"Yes, are you interested in renting?"

The shop owner was a thin man in his fifties, with shrewd, twinkling eyes.

Ling Feng nodded, "I’d like to rent, but not for long—a few days, maybe ten days to half a month. It’s not set yet."

"That’s difficult; my house is nicely furnished, with all home appliances and bedding. Renting for just a few days isn’t feasible," the shop owner said, clicking his tongue.

"We’ll calculate the rent daily. If you’re worried, I can pay a deposit first," Ling Feng smiled.

"Fair enough then."

The shop owner thought the house was idle anyway, and renting it for a few days was still better; after all, who minds extra cash?

So he nodded, "How about this? For a short-term rental, it’s a hundred per day, with a two-thousand deposit. How’s that?"

Ling Feng smiled, "No problem, but I need to check the environment first!"

"Sure, follow me!"

The shop owner stepped outside and led the way to the back of the small building, revealing a staircase to the second floor, indicating there was no need to go through the store.

This arrangement pleased Ling Feng even more—it wouldn’t disturb the shop owner.

Upon reaching the second floor and opening the door, inside was a small living room with a sofa, coffee table, and television. Further inside were two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen.

Ling Feng took a tour and saw there was even a water heater in the bathroom, making him quite satisfied with the house.

The primary appeal was its cleanliness, which appeared as if it hadn’t been occupied much.

Upon inquiry, he learned the house was meant for the shop owner’s son and daughter-in-law, who moved to work in Yinzhou City after getting married and rarely returned.

Having taken a liking to the house, Ling Feng paid the rent and drafted a simple rental agreement by hand.

Both parties were happy, and after receiving the keys, Ling Feng headed back to the car.

By then, Lin Chen, the next shift’s watcher, had also arrived, along with a young girl named Sun Rui.

Sitting in the car, Ling Feng handed the keys to Lin Yu, saying, "I’ve rented the house, so you don’t need to stay here all the time. Switch shifts often, take turns resting over there. If I’m free, I’ll come back to cook for you!"

"The Director knows how to cook?" Lin Chen asked, surprised.

"A little bit!"

Ling Feng chuckled modestly.

After chatting a bit more, knowing that his presence might make everyone uneasy, he said, "You guys keep watch here; I’ll come back later."

With that, he got out of the car, hailed a cab, and returned to the city.

Back at the hotel, he packed up the temporary teleportation array, checked out, and took a ride back to the town.

As it was nearing noon, he went directly to the rented house and prepared a meal.

The enticing aroma wafted out, causing passing pedestrians to stop, sniffing curiously, wondering who was cooking such delicious food.

After preparing lunch, Ling Feng returned to the car, "I’m back; you three go eat, I’ll watch here!"

"No need, Director, you stayed up all night; let me watch. You take my sister and the others to eat," Lin Chen said.

"Don’t argue, just go; otherwise, it will get cold!" Ling Feng insisted.

Since he was so adamant, there was nothing more they could say, so they all got out of the car.

Once the three had left, Ling Feng briefly scanned the temple with his divine sense.

All twelve or so individuals were there, sitting on meditation cushions with their eyes closed, chanting something silently.

Seeing this sight, Ling Feng was a bit puzzled, unsure of what they were doing.

It seemed reminiscent of chanting scriptures, or perhaps training, but it was unclear what they were practicing.

Ling Feng was curious, wondering if these people planned to just stay inside like this, never coming out?

Even though it was nearly noon, there was no activity in the kitchen, didn’t they need to eat?

After observing for ten minutes, feeling somewhat dizzy from their humming chants, Ling Feng planned to withdraw his divine sense and stop paying attention to them.

To his surprise, just as he had this thought, they suddenly stopped.

Then, one Taoist, around fifty years old, stood up and muttered something unintelligible.

Ling Feng couldn’t understand a word.

Subsequently, the Taoist flipped his palm, producing a flash of white light, and suddenly a white porcelain bottle appeared in his hand.

He then distributed a red pill from the porcelain bottle to each of them.

The Taoists immediately swallowed them and resumed chanting with their eyes closed!

Watching this made Ling Feng speechless.
