Chapter 1449: Sticking to Me?
Chapter 1449: Sticking to Me?
Ling Feng’s eyes widened: "You little brat, don’t talk nonsense, this is our guest!"
"Oh!"
Yang Guang stuck out his tongue, then turned and ran outside: "I’ll go get some salt from the kitchen. Nine Heavens is running low. I won’t bother you any longer!"
In a flash, he was gone, leaving Ling Feng speechless.
Sure enough, Catherine had picked up on something, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him: "Mr. Ling, Nine Heavens, what kind of place is that?"
"Oh, that’s, uh, another one of my homes!" Ling Feng explained haphazardly.
"Really? That little girl was quite cute; could you take me to see her again?" Catherine asked.
"No way!"
Ling Feng flatly refused, thinking to himself, "You’re dreaming if you think I’ll take you to Nine Heavens!"
Catherine smiled and took a sip of tea: "Mr. Ling, you seem a bit nervous."
"Do I?"
Ling Feng looked at her: "Not really, it’s mainly because you’re so capable, I have to be a little cautious!"
Rather than beating around the bush, it’s better to be straightforward!
As a result, Catherine sighed slightly: "I know what you’re thinking. I’ve already shown my sincerity, but you still don’t trust me!"
"Sorry, I don’t know what your sincerity involves. If it’s just a proposal to form an alliance, sorry, I’m not interested," Ling Feng said coolly.
"Alright then."
Catherine nodded and then took another sip of tea: "Your tea leaves are really good, the flavor is excellent!"
"Thank you, if you like them, I can give you a few tins," Ling Feng offered.
"No need, I prefer coffee over tea."
Catherine said, standing up: "Shall we take a walk around the village?"
"Sure!"
Ling Feng nodded and accompanied her out of his house, wandering around the apartment buildings, the sunlit greenhouses, and plantations in Shiliu Village.
Catherine was smart; although she didn’t ask much, she had already sensed the differences in Shiliu Village compared to other places.
The temperature here was noticeably higher, and the plants were lush, a phenomenon not typical for this season!
After a round of wandering, it was about noon.
So they returned home, and Ling Feng said: "If you don’t mind, have a simple meal at my place."
"Great!"
Catherine agreed eagerly.
After that, Ling Feng started cooking while she watched, and after a while, she asked: "Is this the earliest method of cooking you used?"
"That’s right, Huaxia people have been doing it like this for thousands of years, only recently switching to other methods!" Ling Feng nodded.
"Oh, it’s my first time seeing it, I find it quite interesting," Catherine chuckled.
"If you’re a foodie, you’d notice the difference in flavor between dishes made with an iron pot versus an electric rice cooker or a wok," Ling Feng commented.
Catherine made a sound of acknowledgment: "Even as a non-foodie, I think I can taste the subtle differences."
Ling Feng smiled and didn’t say more. He finished cooking the rice, then went to the back kitchen to stir-fry two dishes and prepared some fresh vegetables and scallions, making a plate of dipping vegetables.
With no one else around, the two sat down to have lunch.
After tasting Ling Feng’s cooking, Catherine nodded: "The flavor is indeed nice, it’s good!"
"Then eat more!"
Ling Feng smiled, the underlying meaning being: "You won’t have another chance to eat this!"
After lunch, Ling Feng expected Catherine to leave, but unexpectedly, she suddenly asked: "By the way, where are you sleeping tonight?"
"Here, the room inside is my bedroom!" Ling Feng replied.
Catherine looked at him: "What about me?"
"What?"
Ling Feng was shocked, his eyes widening: "You? What do you mean?"
"I’m staying here too, surely I need a place to stay, right?" Catherine said seriously.
Ling Feng: "...."
He was truly speechless, staring at her for a moment before asking: "What are you playing at? There’s already a hotel reservation, why stay here?"
"You’re the one responsible for hosting me, of course I want to be with you!"
Catherine said, then looked at him: "Do you want me to report to our embassy after I return, saying that Huaxia’s host was rude and just dumped me at the hotel?"
"Oh, come on!"
Ling Feng was so frustrated he nearly stomped his foot. This was a blatant threat!
So he immediately said: "Quit it, this won’t intimidate me. The higher-ups won’t reprimand me for such a minor thing!"
"Oh, really?"
Catherine nodded, pulled a chair over, and sat down: "Fine, but I still want to stay here!"
Ling Feng was speechless, then said: "Okay, but staying at my house is out of the question. There’s a guesthouse in the village. It’s a bit basic, but it’s not far from here. Would you like to go there?"
"Sure!"
Catherine nodded immediately.
Ling Feng thought to himself, is she clinging to me? Well, I don’t believe it!
So he quickly said: "Then I’ll take you there!"
"No rush, it’s only afternoon, I can’t go to bed now!" Catherine replied.
"What would you like to do?" Ling Feng asked.
"Whatever you’re doing, I’ll follow along!" Catherine said.
Ling Feng’s heart sank, thinking to himself, this is trouble. She’s clearly planning to be a shadow, and I can’t go anywhere!
What now?
After thinking it over, Ling Feng asked: "You’re not planning to stay here long-term, are you?"
"No, I just want to convince Mr. Ling. Once you agree to an alliance with the Holy Light Society, I’ll leave immediately!" Catherine said.
Ling Feng looked into her eyes, pulled up a chair, and sat down, seriously saying: "Our conflict with the Holy Light Society is irreconcilable. I don’t mind telling you, I’m the one responsible for the Harbor Island incident. Wouldn’t forming an alliance with me disregard those I killed?"
"There are only eternal interests, no eternal hatred. If I say I don’t mind the past, would you believe it?" Catherine inquired.
Ling Feng nodded: "I believe you. You’re always looking for a breakthrough point from me; it’s nothing more than for Helium-3 or Spirit Stone, right?"
Having laid it all out, why not be completely open?
Catherine was straightforward too, nodding: "Yes, I’m interested in both, but I also know you wouldn’t give them up!"
"Good to know, then what else do you want?" Ling Feng asked helplessly.
"I’m after you, the person!"
Catherine looked seriously into his eyes: "If there’s one person in this world who can turn the tide and save humanity from peril, I believe it’s only you!"
"What do you mean? Can you predict doomsday or something?" Ling Feng asked.
