Chapter 1379: Change of Mind
Chapter 1379: Change of Mind
Ling Feng smiled, "No need to be so formal!"
After speaking, he slowed down the car, thought for a moment, and then said, "Wan Yuan Village produces chestnuts, but the trees are aging, so the yield can’t be very high. Moreover, I’m not sure what these chestnuts can be used for. It seems that to make an investment, I’ll need to think it over carefully!"
"If Brother Ling doesn’t have any ideas, I can help you think about it," Mu Lingling said.
Ling Feng looked at her and asked with a smile, "Do you have any ideas?"
"If nothing works, just cut down the chestnut trees and replace them with other varieties, like tea trees," Mu Lingling suggested.
"There are already enough tea trees, and I don’t plan to produce too much Lingyun Tea. That stuff is just for gifting, not for making money,"
Ling Feng shook his head and added, "It’s better to adapt to the local conditions, see what the local environment and climate are suitable for planting!"
As they talked, the car had already returned to the entrance of Wan Yuan Village.
At that moment, many people had gathered at the village entrance, all of them villagers.
Seeing their attire and the weathered looks on their faces—the youngest being in their thirties and only a few of them, with the rest being old men and women in their fifties and sixties—Ling Feng couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
After getting out of the car, Wan Zhong quickly walked over, "Mr. Ling, about Feng Man..."
"You don’t need to worry about his matters. I’ve already warned him; if he wants to cause trouble, he’ll regret it!"
Ling Feng said, turning to look at the villagers, "Everyone, please go back. It’s quite cold outside, no need to stand here!"
"We’re all here voluntarily, we’ve been waiting for you for more than an hour!"
Wan Zhong said, and continued, "Mr. Ling, I have a presumptuous request, and I hope you can agree."
Ling Feng looked at him, having mixed impressions of this person; on one hand, he seemed kind-hearted, but on the other hand, he also appeared to be rather muddleheaded. So, he asked indifferently, "What is it?"
"Please visit every household in the village to see the real situation here," Wan Zhong said.
Ling Feng was taken aback and then nodded, "Sure, I was planning to check it out even if you hadn’t mentioned it."
Then, he and Mu Lingling followed Wan Zhong into the first household at the village entrance.
The house looked somewhat dilapidated, appearing to be at least thirty or forty years old, with the roof made of compacted dirt, covered in withered wild grass.
Assuming it was an abandoned house, Ling Feng was surprised to find someone living inside. Following Wan Zhong inside, he saw an old man lying on the heated brick bed, his face sallow and his breathing weak.
Seeing this, Ling Feng asked in confusion, "What happened to him?"
"He was previously injured by Feng Man’s people. His name is Wan He, he’s my cousin," Wan Zhong introduced.
"With injuries like these, why not go to the hospital?" Ling Feng asked in astonishment.
"All the money is spent, we simply can’t afford it!" Wan Zhong replied helplessly.
"How many people in the village are in similar situations?" Ling Feng quickly asked.
Wan Zhong: "There are eleven more, all recuperating at home. They survive if they can, and if not, they just wait for death!"
"Damn, how can such things still happen!"
Ling Feng widened his eyes in surprise, asking urgently, "Doesn’t the local government do anything about it?"
"It’s complicated. The township did send people with some food supplies, but they can’t help with the medical expenses," Wan Zhong explained helplessly.
"Why?" Ling Feng asked.
"Somehow, Feng Man managed to have the incident classified as a mutual brawl between both sides, a public order issue, so the government has no reason to intervene in our problems," Wan Zhong said.
"..."
Ling Feng frowned, clearly it was a one-sided beating, how did it turn into a mutual brawl?
This Feng character is really sneaky!
After pondering for a moment, he quickly said, "Alright, let’s put aside the matter of whether to invest for now, I’ll prioritize treating everyone’s illnesses!"
Saying this, Ling Feng grabbed Wan He’s wrist to examine him.
Wan Zhong watched in a daze from the side, "Mr. Ling can heal people?"
"A bit,"
Ling Feng didn’t elaborate, but after examining the old man, he discovered a slight fracture in his leg and some internal fluid retention, indicating a severe condition.
So he immediately said, "Let’s go to the next house. I need to see all the injured to allocate the medicines accordingly for treatment!"
"Alright, Mr. Ling, please follow me!"
Upon hearing this, Wan Zhong nodded quickly and hurriedly left Wan He’s house.
Afterward, the group went through the village visiting each home in turn. Ling Feng learned about the conditions of a dozen injured people, fully understanding their situations.
These injuries were mostly external, while some had internal inflammations due to complications from lack of timely medical treatment.
Finally, Ling Feng contemplated for a moment, then turned to Wan Zhong, "Is there a pharmacy in the township? I need some Chinese herbs."
"Well, Tian Shui Village doesn’t have one; you’d have to go to the county to buy medicinal herbs," Wan Zhong replied.
"Alright, tell everyone not to worry. I’ll go buy the medicine first, then come back to treat everyone!" Ling Feng said,
"Can you really cure everyone?" Wan Zhong asked cautiously.
"Don’t worry. Once you take the first dose tonight, everyone will feel much better!"
Ling Feng assured, holding Mu Lingling’s hand as they left, returning to the car at the entrance.
After leaving the village entrance, they could still see, through the rearview mirror, the villagers standing there, reluctant to leave for a long time.
Ling Feng sighed inwardly, turning to Mu Lingling, "I wouldn’t have known. Now I realize the situation in this village is truly dire!"
"Indeed, it was only after coming here that I understood, I didn’t expect it to be like this!"
Mu Lingling sighed, adding, "Actually, thinking about it, similar situations might exist in many places; even without oppressors like tyrants, there are still many elderly who can’t earn much and can only rely on small plots of land to make a living."
"Hmm!"
Ling Feng nodded, "You’re absolutely right. Previously, I thought it would suffice to lend a hand whenever I encounter such situations, contributing whatever I can, but now it seems I’ll need to go out more often."
Hearing this, a gleam of admiration flashed in Mu Lingling’s eyes. Touched, she realized she had found the right person.
The man in front of her had a heart full of compassion, someone worth entrusting!
The car reached the county, and it was already past noon. But Ling Feng still went first to buy the needed herbs, then stopped with Mu Lingling at a roadside restaurant.
In a hurry to return to mix the medications, Ling Feng casually ordered a couple of dishes with the intent to eat quickly and leave.
Before the owner even brought the food, a commotion erupted outside, with shouts and an uproar, as if a fight had broken out.
