Chapter 1270 Search
"Why don’t I go too?" the Princess Liya asked.
Ling Feng and Feng Ling were both taken aback and looked at her simultaneously: "You want to go too?"
"Yes, I don’t really have anything going on, so I’ll treat it like a trip!" Liya said.
"Hmm..."
Ling Feng thought to himself, I’m going for business, not a vacation!
But since the young lady said so, he couldn’t really refuse. He hesitated for a moment and said, "Alright, but given your status, crossing the border might be considered a diplomatic action, right?"
"Don’t worry, it’s not as serious as you think. We just need to notify the local authorities," Liya replied.
"Oh, alright!"
Ling Feng nodded and didn’t say anything more.
Since they were eager to make their way to Yangjing County, the three of them didn’t delay much. The two women went upstairs to quickly pack up, then they got in the car and left Guo City.
After a long journey, the three smoothly passed through the border crossing and transferred to a local vehicle, heading straight to Yangjing County.
On the way, Ling Feng roughly explained the situation with Chen Ping, but he didn’t talk about his identity or the higher-level concealment by the security bureau.
Although Feng Ling was one of them, there was also Liya present, so it was better to keep some things to himself.
Although the two women only got a vague understanding, they could sense the seriousness from Ling Feng’s expression. So Liya said, "When we get there, the local government officials will probably meet with me. Why not let me ask them to help investigate?"
"Let’s see how things go when we get there."
This time, Ling Feng didn’t want to alert the local security bureau because once they knew, his whereabouts would be exposed, and Han Wancheng would quickly get the news.
So it’s better for him to investigate privately as much as possible.
At 6 p.m., the vehicle arrived in Yangjing County.
Considering Liya was the Princess of Mianluo Country, the county magistrate of Yangjing County was already waiting at the hotel upon their arrival.
So she went with her entourage to meet the magistrate for a brief conversation.
Meanwhile, Ling Feng and Feng Ling went directly to their hotel room.
As it gradually got dark, Ling Feng actually felt quite anxious.
He really wanted to go out now and find out where Chen Ping’s home was, even if it meant asking random passersby in case there was a chance.
But since Liya hadn’t returned yet, he couldn’t just leave her—that would be too rude.
After waiting for more than half an hour, the door finally opened, and Liya returned.
With her came a woman in plain clothes, wearing a neat and tidy navy blue blazer.
"Let me introduce, this is Chen Fei, the Deputy Director of the public security bureau in Yangjing County," Liya introduced.
"Hello, Director Chen."
Ling Feng, although a bit surprised, quickly greeted her.
Chen Fei smiled slightly and nodded, "Hello, Mr. Ling. I heard from Princess Liya that you’re here to find someone?"
"Yes." Ling Feng nodded, not quite sure of her intentions.
"The magistrate has asked me to assist you in any way possible, so if there’s any way I can help, just let me know," Chen Fei said.
Ling Feng was momentarily puzzled, not quite understanding what was happening.
Seeing him like this, Chen Fei smiled, "Princess Liya plans to invest in our county to boost the local economy, so the magistrate takes this matter seriously."
"I see!"
Ling Feng suddenly understood and nodded, "Then thanks to the magistrate and Director Chen!"
"You’re welcome. May I ask who you’re looking for, Mr. Ling?" Chen Fei inquired.
"Coincidentally, his surname is also Chen, and his name is Chen Ping! He’s around fifty years old," Ling Feng said.
Chen Fei made a sound of acknowledgment, clearly not having any recollection of the person, and continued to ask, "And what does this Mr. Chen Ping do?"
"He is a state employee, and his identity is classified. I suspect there won’t be any records at the county level," Ling Feng stated.
"Oh?"
Chen Fei pondered for a moment, "If that’s the case, it might be a bit tricky to find him!"
"Yes, I’ve come here hoping to get lucky and find his address. If not, there’s nothing I can do," Ling Feng said with a bitter smile.
"I might be able to search through the census system to see if I can assist you, Mr. Ling," Chen Fei offered.
"That would be wonderful!"
Ling Feng was pleasantly surprised; that was definitely a good idea!
Chen Fei nodded, "Please wait a moment."
Saying this, she retrieved a tablet from her bag, connected to the internet, and accessed the local census management system.
After entering the name, Chen Fei looked up, "There are currently 64 males and 22 females in the county named Chen Ping. We can exclude the females, and there are fifteen males in the appropriate age range."
Hearing this number, Ling Feng quickly asked, "Do these people have photos?"
Chen Fei nodded, "Yes, there are photos taken for their IDs."
"Great!"
Ling Feng eagerly leaned over, "Can I take a look?"
"Sure."
Chen Fei handed over the tablet.
Carrying considerable hope, Ling Feng looked through them one by one, but surprisingly, Chen Ping’s photo wasn’t among them!
Among the fifteen individuals, none even looked remotely similar!
Seeing Ling Feng’s expression, Chen Fei said, "It’s possible that Chen Ping has already transferred his household registration, so we don’t have his information here!"
"Uh..."
Realizing this possibility, Ling Feng regretted not chatting with him more back then, asking about his family background or something, otherwise, he wouldn’t be left with no leads now!
Feeling helpless, he could only say to Chen Fei, "Thanks anyway for your help, Director Chen. I’ll continue to search on my own."
"Alright."
Chen Fei put away the tablet, "Do you have any ideas on where to start?"
"I’m not sure if he’s from the county or the surrounding towns, so I’ll start checking around the nearby towns," Ling Feng replied.
Chen Fei paused, "That could be quite an effort, the county has over 400,000 people spread across more than a dozen towns. Checking all of them would take at least a month!"
"Even if it’s like finding a needle in a haystack, I have to find him!" Ling Feng said determinedly.
"May I ask what your relationship with Mr. Chen is?" Chen Fei asked out of curiosity.
"He’s my superior. He went on vacation recently, and then suddenly disappeared, and when I asked higher-ups, they wouldn’t reveal anything. I suspect something has happened to him," Ling Feng explained.
"I see."
Chen Fei thought for a moment and then said, "Mr. Ling, don’t worry. I’ll look into recent cases in the county tonight to see if there’s any useful information."
"Really? That would be great, thank you so much!" Ling Feng said quickly.
"You’re welcome, Mr. Ling. Please be patient, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible!" Chen Fei assured with a smile.
