Chapter 1147: The World’s Number One Village
Chapter 1147: The World’s Number One Village
The next morning, after waking up, Ling Feng greeted Mo Jiaolan and left the Ling Corporation building.
The greenhouses in Shiliu Village had been completed under the simultaneous construction of eight teams, and he wanted to go take a look on-site.
When he arrived back at the village entrance, he saw the plaza in front of the village was already packed with a sea of people. Not only were there people from Shiliu Village, but folks from surrounding villages had also come!
They were all there to witness the ceremony celebrating the completion of the greenhouses. To showcase the new look of Shiliu Village, Li Yumei had specially bought a large amount of firecrackers. Once they were lit, the deafening explosions instantly filled the mountains, making everyone cover their ears.
Ling Feng’s mood improved considerably. With these vegetable greenhouses, the residents of Shiliu Village would all be able to lead good lives in the future.
Once the ceremony ended, people began their first day of work.
Because the greenhouses were fully automated, each one only needed three staff members. Watching the crowd move toward the greenhouses, Li Yumei came up to Ling Feng and said, "Once this first batch of vegetables is planted, they should be ready for market by the time winter rolls around!"
"Hmm, no matter what, make sure everyone’s wages are paid on time!" Ling Feng said.
"Of course! Other companies pay wages on the 15th of the month, withholding half a month’s pay. But we’re different. We tally everything on the 1st and pay on the 2nd!" Li Yumei said with a smile.
Ling Feng smiled faintly. "That’s the way it should be!"
While they were talking, a car drove into Shiliu Village. Three people got out of the car, asked the nearby villagers for directions, and then started walking over.
Ling Feng had already noticed them, but he wasn’t sure if these people were looking for him or for Li Yumei.
As the Village Chief, she had already gained some fame in the surrounding towns. It wasn’t uncommon for people to come to her to learn from her experience and insights.
The three people were two men and one woman. One of the men had graying hair at his temples, while the other pair, a man and a woman, were quite young.
When they got closer, the middle-aged man smiled and asked, "Excuse me, are you Mr. Ling?"
"That’s me. And you are?"
"I’m Hua Guoqiang. This is my daughter Hua Duoduo, and this is my nephew Hua Bing. We’re from Hua Family Village," Hua Guoqiang said.
Ling Feng froze for a moment, then asked, "You mean the number-one village in Huaxia?"
"That’s right. So, it seems Mr. Ling has heard of us?" Hua Guoqiang said with a smile.
Ling Feng nodded. "Heard of you? When your village became famous back in the day, I was still in primary school!"
Hua Family Village had been early pioneers in the reform initiatives and had caught the wave of Huaxia’s economic development. Over the years, it had developed into an internationally renowned economic powerhouse.
It was said that every villager in Hua Family Village owned a villa and a luxury car. They didn’t need to do any work and still received dividends from the village’s enterprises!
The village, which had once been a small rural community, had transformed into something resembling a small city, attracting countless workers from across the country.
After hearing Ling Feng’s words, Hua Guoqiang smiled and said, "Yes, we’ve benefited greatly from the country’s reform and opening-up policies!"
"So, Mr. Hua, why have you come to see me?" Ling Feng asked.
"That’s right. I heard Mr. Ling is a highly skilled doctor. We’re hoping you could come and look at my father’s condition," Hua Guoqiang said.
Ling Feng was taken aback. "And where is your father?"
"In Hua Family Village," Hua Guoqiang replied.
Ling Feng chuckled and shook his head. "I’m sorry, but I have no idea about your father’s condition or why you’re seeking me out. However, I’m very busy right now and simply don’t have the time to travel over!"
"Oh, is that so?"
Hua Guoqiang glanced over at the greenhouses in the distance and then smiled. "These little vegetable greenhouses shouldn’t take up too much of your time, right?"
"Oh?"
Ling Feng froze for a moment, then looked at him. "It seems Mr. Hua doesn’t know much about me?"
"We know you have the Ling Corporation, which operates many businesses in the local county. But as we’ve also heard, the company’s operations are handled by others, and you merely hold an honorary title," Hua Duoduo said.
At this moment, Hua Bing added, "Mr. Ling, if you’re worried about compensation, please rest assured. If my grandfather’s illness can be cured, the reward we offer will at least equal your greenhouses’ half-year revenue!"
Ling Feng frowned slightly. How rich and arrogant could they be?
What stung him wasn’t their dismissive attitude, but the word ’reward.’ To them, even if they addressed him as a ’Divine Doctor,’ he was nothing more than a tool in their eyes!
Ling Feng smiled faintly and looked at the two younger individuals. "You’re absolutely right, but unfortunately, all the money in the world can’t buy my willingness. My time is far more precious than you imagine. Hua Family Village is over a thousand kilometers from here—there’s no way I can spare the time to travel back and forth!"
"Dad, I knew this guy would act all high and mighty. See for yourself!" Hua Duoduo said impatiently.
"Uncle, let’s go. At worst, we’ll find another Divine Doctor. Do you really think he’s the only one in all of Huaxia? Just spend a little more money!" Hua Bing chimed in.
"Well..."
Hua Guoqiang hesitated, then looked at Ling Feng and said, "Mr. Ling, we came all this way with sincerity. We truly hope you can understand our filial piety and lend us a hand!"
Ling Feng shook his head. "That’s a heavy statement. I fully understand your feelings, Mr. Hua, but I’m truly sorry. If your father’s condition isn’t critical, you’re better off seeking someone else. I can’t set aside my own responsibilities just for the sake of your filial piety, can I?"
"And these trivial matters are worth holding onto? If you ask me, you’re just stuck in a small-minded, peasant mentality. Can’t you see how vast the world is outside? Building a connection with us Hua Family would open up so many opportunities for you!" Hua Duoduo said angrily.
"Such a short-sighted person. Uncle, let’s go!" Hua Bing added.
Ling Feng smiled faintly. "Say whatever you like. No matter how famous or wealthy Hua Family Village is, it means nothing to me. I won’t waste my time running over there to serve you. Frankly, you’re just not qualified!"
Since their tone was full of mockery, Ling Feng didn’t bother to hold back and directly began to counter.
"Ling, don’t be so smug! Do you believe we Hua Family Village can’t acquire your Ling Corporation in mere moments?" Hua Duoduo shouted angrily.
"Feel free to try. I don’t mind!"
Ling Feng shrugged his shoulders, then smiled. "Hua Family Village may be famous, but it doesn’t pose any threat to me. Let me be clear: you may be Huaxia’s number-one village, but my goal is to make Shiliu Village the world’s number-one village!"
As soon as he said this, Hua Guoqiang and the others were stunned. Even Li Yumei was left speechless!
