Chapter 1091: Token
Chapter 1091: Token
Ling Feng watched coldly from a distance, without any intention of stopping what was about to happen next.
In his eyes, neither of these two men were good people—they both deserved to die.
As for the manner of their deaths, that depended on how things would unfold.
After waiting for a while, the man who had entered the tomb started passing out various items, then slowly crawled out.
The person waiting outside with the dagger crept around behind him, and raised the blade to strike!
"Ah!"
A long, agonized scream echoed far into the night, alarming a flock of birds that had been roosting in the trees—they took flight with a rustling cacophony!
But Ling Feng saw clearly: the one who screamed was not the man wielding the dagger, but the one who had just crawled out of the tomb!
Just as the dagger was about to stab into his body, the man suddenly twisted around and pulled out a short dagger from seemingly nowhere, plunging it into his attacker instead!
After the scream, the stabbed man’s mouth was quickly covered, and his body slumped to the ground. He twitched a few times before becoming lifeless.
Ling Feng frowned slightly in the shadows. These two were ruthless—one was deadlier than the other!
It was evident their collaboration was superficial. Behind the scenes, each had planned to kill the other and claim the treasures from the tomb for himself.
A classic case of "like attracts like."
The man who emerged from the tomb glanced at his now-dead partner and sneered coldly. "I figured you’d be up to no good. Did you think I was stupid enough not to see through your tricks?"
"Once I bury you in this tomb, you’ll disappear from the mortal world forever!"
With that, he hoisted the corpse into the tomb and began shoveling dirt to cover it.
Ling Feng simply continued watching from nearby. The night was still young, and he wasn’t in any hurry—he could act later.
Only when the man had finished his work and began gathering his belongings to leave did Ling Feng rise to his feet and step forward.
He didn’t bother to conceal his movements, letting the sound of his footsteps announce his arrival. The man whirled around and barked in a low voice, "Who’s there?"
"It’s me. You’re quite merciless, eh?"
Ling Feng chuckled and strode up to him.
Despite the dim lighting, the man recognized Ling Feng from his voice. He narrowed his eyes and said, "You’ve got guts, kid."
"Just alright. But nothing compared to you—grave robbing and murder? You’re ruthless!" Ling Feng replied.
The man’s eyes flickered, and his right hand suddenly reached behind him, gripping the handle of his short dagger.
Ling Feng noticed but didn’t react, continuing casually, "What did you dig up? They say it’s polite to share half when meeting someone. Mind showing me?"
"Kid, I didn’t even want to split with my partner. Why should a stranger like you get a share?" the man asked coldly.
"Because I saw you robbing the grave and committing murder, obviously," Ling Feng said matter-of-factly.
"You saw it? Worst case, I’ll just make you shut up forever!"
As he spoke, the man lunged forward with the dagger, aiming straight for Ling Feng’s chest.
The man had some martial skills, but against Ling Feng, his level was laughably inadequate. With a subtle turn, Ling Feng effortlessly slipped behind him.
The man’s vision blurred as Ling Feng vanished. Alarmed, he froze in place!
A laugh echoed behind him: "Looking for me? I’m right here!"
"A ghost!"
The man cried out in terror and started to flee!
He barely took a step before spinning abruptly, flinging the blade toward Ling Feng with dazzling speed!
"Hmm? Another trick?"
Ling Feng tilted his head to dodge, noting that the move resembled a surprise counterattack—a flying knife technique, perhaps?
As the blade narrowly missed Ling Feng’s face, the man realized the attack had failed and turned to run once more!
This time, he genuinely intended to escape, but Ling Feng had no plans to let him leave. There was no chance he could get far.
After sprinting about ten meters, the man heard no footsteps behind him and thought he had gotten away. To his shock, he collided with someone head-on, bouncing backward instantly.
"Trying to run? That easy, huh?" Ling Feng sneered.
"What... What are you? Man or ghost?"
The man stumbled, falling hard onto the ground and staring up in horror.
"What do you think?"
Ling Feng asked in a chillingly eerie tone.
The man was utterly terrified now, convinced by Ling Feng’s ghostly, supernatural movements that he might actually be dealing with a spirit.
After shivering violently, the man scrambled to his feet and bolted once more!
This time, Ling Feng didn’t pursue him. Using his divine sense, he locked onto the fleeing figure, watching as he recklessly dashed ahead. Moments later, his foot caught air—he plummeted off a cliff!
The cliff was at least forty to fifty meters high. A fall from that height ensured certain death.
"Saves me the trouble," Ling Feng remarked coldly as a long, agonized scream echoed across the valley.
He approached the tomb once more.
Scattered on the ground were a few items: an ancient, ornate dagger, a jade bracelet, a jade ring, a dark metal token, and over a dozen gold and silver ingots.
Ling Feng glanced at the items, shaking his head in mild disappointment. Together, they were worth perhaps several thousand dollars, but two lives had been lost for them—it hardly seemed worth it.
He swept all of the items into his space bracelet, except for the metal token.
It was just after 2 AM. The sun wouldn’t rise until after 6. Ling Feng stood silently on the uninhabited mountain slope for a while.
This trip into the mountains to investigate Longyu the Prince had yielded almost no clues. Ling Feng realized he’d have to rely entirely on his own efforts now.
To find information, he needed to speak with people—but with no one around, wandering aimlessly in the vast mountain range would be useless.
After some thought, Ling Feng decided to descend the mountain and return to the village where Little Lian lived.
He didn’t disturb her, though. Instead, he found a hiding spot and removed the teleportation array he had prepared earlier, placing it on the ground.
This teleportation array was portable, stored in his space bracelet, and could be used anywhere to transport him to the Nine Heavens.
However, being unfamiliar with the area, Ling Feng had hesitated to use it—it could be destroyed by curious villagers or wild animals, forcing him to make another trip. Too much hassle!
But now, with the late-night silence and no beasts nearby, he felt assured enough to use it.
Once in the Nine Heavens, Ling Feng avoided disturbing others and simply sat down on the grass. He took out the metal token.
The surface was slightly corroded, but the lettering remained legible. Smaller characters identified its owner as "Western Expedition Army Deputy Commander," while the larger text read "Hu Wei."
Ling Feng deduced this token belonged to the occupant of the tomb, buried along with him as part of his possessions.
The tomb was someone’s ancestral burial site, meaning this Hu Wei was a local.
Longyu was also originally from the Shennongjia region—this meant Hu Wei had likely served under him in the past!
