Chapter 1089: Tricked!
Chapter 1089: Tricked!
The call was from Mo Jiaolan, asking if Ling Feng had arrived at his destination.
After a brief exchange, Ling Feng didn’t say much and hung up the phone.
By then, the room next door had gone silent; knowing the walls were thin, those two would naturally not carry on.
What Ling Feng didn’t expect was that not long after hanging up, someone suddenly knocked on his door.
He got up to open it and saw standing outside were the two from next door, to whom he said, "What’s up?"
"Brother, did you overhear our conversation just now?"
The older one asked coldly.
"Sure, not a word missed!" Ling Feng nodded.
The man narrowed his eyes, "Kid, when you’re out and about, don’t listen to what you shouldn’t, don’t speak of what you shouldn’t, you get me?"
"Understood, rest assured, I won’t get involved!" Ling Feng said with a smile.
"Good, if I find out you’re messing around behind our backs, you’re in for it!" the other gritted his teeth.
Ling Feng chuckled, "Alright, no worries!"
Without further words, the two turned and left.
Shortly after, Ling Feng heard a clattering noise from next door, which quickly died down.
A moment later, a dispute rose from downstairs; the two seemed to be trying to check out, but the innkeeper refused to refund their money, thus the argument ensued.
Ling Feng, rolling his eyes, thought to himself what kind of establishment this was, made of cardboard? Sounds from the first floor could actually be heard all the way up on the third!
It was his first time staying in such an inn, and he felt helpless, thinking it really beat all!
Amidst the quarreling downstairs, a woman’s feeble voice could be heard: "Old Chen, is there a young man staying here?"
"There is one, what do you need him for?" the innkeeper asked.
"I need to speak with him about something." the woman said.
"Upstairs, room 305, go on up yourself!" the innkeeper replied.
Then, footsteps could be heard approaching Ling Feng’s room.
Ling Feng already knew it was the female innkeeper, waited for a knock on the door, and upon opening it, asked, "Looking for me?"
"Yes, I’d like to ask for your help." The woman spoke with her head down.
Ling Feng was taken aback: "Help with what?"
"Hu Er has left, but I know he’ll come back, and he’ll be even worse than before. I’m scared to stay here, could you drive me home?" she asked lowly.
"Where’s your home?" Ling Feng asked.
"In the mountains, ten kilometers from here, I’m afraid to walk by myself on such a late night..." she murmured softly.
Ling Feng responded with an "Oh" and, somewhat rhetorically, asked, "Don’t you have any acquaintances in town?"
"I do, but I’m afraid he might do something to me on the way... I think you’re a good person, and you wouldn’t take advantage of me, right?" the woman looked up and asked.
"..."
Ling Feng thought to himself that the woman was quite pitiable; divorced and running her own business, with an ex-husband up to no good and the town’s men harboring ill intentions towards her.
Moved by compassion, he nodded: "Alright, I’ll take you there."
"Thank you." the woman hastily said.
"No need for thanks, let’s go. How are we traveling, you’re not suggesting we walk, right?" Ling Feng asked.
"No need, I’ve got an electric scooter, it’s just the headlight isn’t very bright." the woman explained.
"Then that’s fine, let’s go."
Ling Feng nodded and started heading downstairs.
When they reached the ground floor, the argument had already stopped.
As for the two tomb robbers from next door, it was unclear if they took the room fee, but they were certainly no longer there.
Seeing Ling Feng descend with that woman, the restaurant owner, Old Chen, asked in puzzlement, "Little Lian, what are you planning to do?"
"It’s nothing. This gentleman just dined at my place, and I need his help with something!" said the woman called Little Lian.
"If you need help, just ask me, why bother the guests here?" Old Chen said with a chuckle.
Little Lian lowered her head, "There’s no need to trouble you."
After saying that, she quickly left.
Ling Feng gave Old Chen a look and noticed his unfriendly expression, so he just smiled and didn’t say anything, following Little Lian out of the inn.
When they reached the entrance of the restaurant, they saw a small electric bicycle parked there, and Ling Feng couldn’t help but wonder, "Can this tiny bike really carry the two of us?"
"It can. You’ll know once you’re on it."
Little Lian said this and then lifted her leg onto the bike.
Ling Feng had no choice but to get on the back seat.
The electric bicycle was indeed tiny, and it was almost impossible for two people to sit on it without physical contact.
Little Lian said nothing, but Ling Feng felt a bit awkward.
After all, they were strangers, and this physical contact felt like he was taking advantage of her.
Thus, he intentionally leaned back a little to avoid touching her as much as possible.
But then Little Lian said, "Make sure you hold on tight, or just hold onto my waist if you can’t?"
"Uh, no need, I’m fine, let’s go," Ling Feng said.
Little Lian said nothing more, turned on the switch, and then rode onto the highway.
The light from the small bicycle was indeed not bright, illuminating only about ten meters or so, and the speed wasn’t fast either, the top speed being only about thirty kilometers per hour.
Under the cover of night, the small electric bicycle carried the two away from Hongqi Town, heading into the mountains along the road.
Ling Feng and Little Lian both remained silent, not knowing what to say, so both kept quiet.
After traveling a few hundred meters like this, the mountains on both sides of the road immediately became steep.
In the pitch darkness, only the faint humming of the electric bike’s motor could be heard, surrounded by silence.
After traveling around two kilometers, the road gradually narrowed, and the two entered deeper into the mountains.
At this moment, a sense of alertness suddenly surged in Ling Feng’s heart, just as he was about to speak up, when two bright lights suddenly shone from ahead, illuminating him and Little Lian.
The electric bike screeched to a halt, and with a sweep of his Divine Sense, Ling Feng froze.
There were three people in that vehicle, one of whom was Hu Er!
"What is this guy doing here?"
With a thought in his mind, Ling Feng got off the bike and said to Little Lian, "Don’t be scared!"
But he noticed that Little Lian had an unusual look on her face, not at all nervous, but instead her eyes were filled with guilt as she looked at him!
At this moment, the car door opened, and Hu Er, along with two others, jumped out, one of them even carrying a double-barreled shotgun!
Ling Feng narrowed his eyes and asked Little Lian, "Did you know they were lying in ambush here?"
"Yes, I’m sorry, I had no choice, they forced me to do it," said Little Lian, her head bowed.
"..."
Ling Feng was speechless, having not expected such a situation.
Then Hu Er spoke, "Kid, you didn’t see this coming, did you? Thought that beating me up was the end of it? It’s not that easy!"
"So what do you want?" Ling Feng asked helplessly.
"What do I want? You think you can hit me for nothing? Hand over all the money on you right now, and maybe I’ll spare your life!" Hu Er shouted loudly.
Ling Feng was taken aback, "You dare to commit murder?"
"Psh, so what if I kill you? In these desolate mountains, I could throw you into a ravine, and you wouldn’t be found for three to five years!" Hu Er sneered.
