Chapter 1087: The Black Shop
Chapter 1087: The Black Shop
Ling Feng thought this would intimidate Yang Guang, but unexpectedly, the girl just chuckled and said, "No problem, if I can’t become your apprentice, I’ll marry you when I grow up instead!"
"Uh..."
Ling Feng nearly choked.
Seeing Duan Feihong and Zhang He looking at him with grins, he quickly glowered at Yang Guang: "You impudent girl, stop talking nonsense!"
"Humph!"
Yang Guang rolled her eyes at him, but she didn’t continue.
Afterward, Ling Feng took her and Duan Feihong to the Nine Heavens, handed her over to Li Fei’er to serve as a guide, and then left with Zhang He.
Once they got into the vehicle, Ling Feng asked, "So you’ll be stationed at Longyuan from now on?"
Zhang He nodded, "That’s right, the bureau will be my new home!"
"Oh."
Ling Feng nodded and said nothing more.
He knew that Zhang He’s transfer signified a significant increase in status for Longyuan, and that it was somewhat related to himself.
But more importantly, it showed the bureau’s attitude, as they were making thorough preparations for future events.
Seeing Ling Feng quiet, Zhang He smiled and said, "Now that we’ll be so close, I might have to bother you at your place often!"
"You’re always welcome, though I’m about to head out!" Ling Feng replied.
"Where to?"
Zhang He was unaware of Chen Ping’s arrangements, so he inquired.
"Shennongjia Mountains."
"What for?" Zhang He continued to ask.
"Xinglong Gang matters, you’ll know once you start working!" Ling Feng said.
Zhang He gave an "Oh", then asked, "This trip won’t have you back in less than ten or eight days, right?"
"Hard to say, but I plan to set up a Teleportation Array to carry with me, so I can return instantly wherever I go!" Ling Feng replied.
"That would be great, not that I miss you, but it’s just a hassle to see my wife when you’re not around!" Zhang He said.
Ling Feng glanced at him, "Stop beating around the bush, I get it. I’ll give you a pendant later!"
"Really? That’s fantastic!" Zhang He laughed heartily.
After arriving at Longyuan, the two went to find Chen Ping. Seeing him sitting at the desk with furrowed brows, Ling Feng asked, "What’s up, boss? You seem troubled."
"Those Monks we caught last night, more than half of them died!" Chen Ping said.
"Huh? How did they die?" Ling Feng inquired.
Chen Ping shook his head, "That’s just it, I have no idea, and it’s really frustrating!"
"No way?"
Ling Feng was astonished, "Our people can’t figure it out?"
"Healthy bodies, no poison inside, all vital signs normal, but they just shut their mouths tight and then they were gone!" Chen Ping explained.
"Could this be some sort of sorcery?" Zhang He asked.
"Maybe, but there’s no evidence," Chen Ping replied helplessly.
Zhang He looked at Ling Feng, "It seems like it’s time for you to take action, right?"
"I’ll try."
Ling Feng nodded; without prying their mouths open, they couldn’t get critical information, nor could they find out their identities and origins, which was quite troublesome.
So he followed Chen Ping and Zhang He to the underground prison, quickly arriving at the room where those people were held.
Now, these folks were each isolated in solitary confinement, in small individual cells completely insulating sound, making it impossible for them to secretly communicate with each other.
Ling Feng entered one of the rooms and didn’t waste any words. He directly grabbed the person’s wrist, then shouted, "Who are you?"
The other party’s eyes remained tightly closed, as if in a state of meditation, showing no reaction to his questioning.
Ling Feng slapped him and demanded loudly again, "Speak, who are you?"
The other party finally opened their eyes, but the look in their eyes was blank, and they still didn’t say a word.
"..."
Ling Feng was at a loss for words too; this state was almost like that of a vegetable, their mind completely empty!
So he turned and went to the next room, to check on another person.
The result was the same. That person also lacked any consciousness, left with only the instinct to live.
This time Ling Feng was utterly baffled and said to Chen Ping, "I don’t know what’s going on either."
"Let it be, just leave it be for now," Chen Ping sighed and said.
Although the culprit was caught, not a single clue was obtained; this case cannot be considered perfectly resolved.
But there was no other solution, so they had to let it go.
Afterwards, Ling Feng left Longyuan and returned to Shiliu Village.
...
...
Two days later, ready to go, Ling Feng drove his Hummer out from home, embarking on a new journey.
This time he set out alone, because the Teleportation Array was ready, and he could reach the destination by teleporting after getting there, so no one wanted to join him on the tiresome journey of traveling by land and water.
Ling Feng could only drive by car, fly by plane, and then take a long-distance bus, spending a little over a day before finally arriving at the outskirts of the Shennongjia Mountains area.
Hongqi Town, located at the foot of the mountains, only had one road cutting through its center, with dozens of households on each side of the road.
After Ling Feng got off the bus, he saw an inn not far ahead and walked towards it.
"Boss, do you have any rooms available?"
The innkeeper was a middle-aged man in his forties who looked up at him: "Yes, what kind of room do you want?"
Ling Feng was taken aback and thought to himself that the building was only three stories high; what type of rooms could they possibly have?
So he smiled and said, "I’ll take the best one you have!"
"Sure, one hundred yuan per night!"
The boss turned his head to grab a set of keys and started up the stairs.
Ling Feng was stunned and couldn’t help asking, "Don’t you need to check in?"
"No need, you don’t look like a bad guy, why bother?" the boss said without turning back.
Ling Feng was speechless, wondering if this casualness meant it was some shady inn.
Following up to the third floor, the innkeeper opened a room, turned his head to look at Ling Feng, and stretched out his hand.
Knowing it was for the room payment, Ling Feng quickly handed him a red banknote.
After the boss left, Ling Feng entered the room and became even more speechless.
The room had only a bed, and an old-fashioned bulky TV, and that was pretty much it!
"It really is a shady inn, this kind of environment and it costs one hundred yuan a night?"
Ling Feng muttered to himself and sat down by the bed.
He had originally planned to open the Teleportation Array upon arrival and summon Li Fei’er and the others, but seeing the environment now, Ling Feng thought better of it; they would frown upon it!
Thus, he took out his phone and dialed her number: "I’ve arrived at Hongqi Town. The environment here is kind of poor, let’s wait until tomorrow to talk about it!"
"Are you going into the mountains tomorrow?" Li Fei’er asked.
"Hmm, it depends on the situation. If needed, you can come over then, if not, better not come for now," Ling Feng said.
"Alright then, I won’t wait for you, I’m heading back to Nine Heavens!" Li Fei’er said.
"Okay."
Ling Feng nodded and hung up the phone.
It was already evening by that time. After staying in the room for a while, Ling Feng went downstairs ready to find a place to eat and try the local flavor.
Just as he reached the ground floor, he happened to see two young people with big and small bags coming in, asking loudly, "Do you have any vacant rooms?"
