Chapter 90: The end of the battle
Chapter 90: The end of the battle
Evelyn clenched her teeth as Alice’s mana seeped into her shoulder.
It was excruciatingly painful, but at the same time, a refreshing relief spread through the wound.
Her silver-gray eyes looked away from Alice’s worried face and fell upon Ethan, who was approaching with slow steps.
It was a little embarrassing to be treated this way. She had spent much of her life as a mercenary, a world where no one wasted care on others.
Everyone wanted money, and everyone wanted to survive. Nothing more.
"Alice, shouldn’t you tend to Ethan first?" Evelyn whispered, her gaze resting on the cut in his armor, just below the steel plate protecting his chest. "He looks more injured than I am..."
"I’m fine." Ethan replied before pulling back the steel mesh protecting his stomach, revealing his toned abdomen.
It was intact. Not even a scratch.
The Blood Emperor’s ring was truly incredible.
That was a cut that could have ripped open his guts and put his life at risk, but it had been instantly healed, consuming only fifty blood points.
If he maintained a constant reserve of at least six hundred blood points, he would already be practically immortal.
The idea of having his entire body blown apart and, to the terror of his enemies, immediately reconstructed, left Ethan quite excited.
"Ah... then I’m the one who needs protection." He gave a little smile, approaching Evelyn and pulling a superior healing potion from the system inventory. "If it weren’t for your shoulder pads, you would have lost your arm."
Evelyn grunted and took the potion with her uninjured hand, staring for a moment at the bright red liquid before drinking it in two gulps.
"Ah... what the hell is that ring?" she asked, her eyes resting on the vibrant red stone on Ethan’s index finger.
Alice shared the same curiosity.
Her hands left Evelyn’s shoulder wound, which had already closed completely, leaving only a faint mark that would disappear in a few days.
Alice’s healing magic was already strong enough to close wounds like this without leaving a scar, but the potion had helped.
"Just a life-saving artifact." Ethan smiled. "Even if my head is severed, I can regenerate, so don’t worry."
The two stared at him with impressed looks.
Remembering how that artifact consumed the beasts’ blood, they fell silent.
An artifact like that, if revealed to the wrong people, could bring serious trouble upon him.
Fortunately, everyone who knew about it was already absolutely loyal, and even if they weren’t, what could they possibly do in a region as poor and isolated as this one?
Ethan wasn’t too worried about that. His eyes were fixed on the system notifications that kept arriving.

Ethan’s eyes shone brightly, but he wasn’t the only one.
Alice, Evelyn, and everyone who participated directly in the battle received notifications, as did those who contributed indirectly.
Alice had the highest participation rate and thus received the most generous rewards.
Ethan didn’t know what each of his people would choose, so he simply let them decide.
Alice chose a magic book, with a darkened and elegant cover, clearly an S-Rank item.
Ethan took a look at the item’s attributes, something he could do freely since she was his subordinate.
[Item: Spellbook of the Last Brown Mage Grandmaster.
Description: The personal book of the Grand Master of the Tower of Brown Mages, which fell over three thousand years ago. Contains arrays to strengthen spells, the ability to float at the user’s will, and a myriad of diverse spells.

Bound to: Alice
Rank: S]
Ethan smiled with satisfaction as he watched Alice hold the book tightly against her chest.
She had made an incredible choice.
Noticing her husband’s gaze, Alice blushed, a rosy smile spreading across her lips.
Evelyn had a participation rate of only Rank A, but she still managed to get something powerful: a pair of Rank A gloves capable of temporarily doubling her strength.
Combined with the burning blood body enhancement technique and her Rank B talent, she could probably already crush any enemy on the second stage.
The other guards chose a wide variety of items, with some even opting for drinks.
Cain, without a doubt, was the luckiest one, his talent skyrocketing straight to Rank B.
Ethan wanted to ask what he had chosen to make such a leap happen, but seeing the young man’s excited face, he just shook his head.
Six guards had died and still needed to be buried, but Goldenveil’s gains were far from over.
"Doran, split the guards into two groups and head to the two goblin camps," Ethan ordered.
"Kill all the females and children, bring back the loot, and free any human prisoners."
Doran nodded immediately, beginning to shout orders. The guard acted swiftly, saying a quick goodbye to the fallen before beginning to march.
A few hours later, Ethan was greeted by two identical notifications.
