Chapter 94: Mere Genius
Chapter 94: Mere Genius
The moment the teacher announced the beginning of the match, both of them had their energy flare up.
Auric couldn’t help but widen his eyes as a smile appeared on his face.
"Hmm? What did you see?" Ellia couldn’t help but notice Auric’s expression.
Auric didn’t answer her, but the result of the match might be different from what people expected.
Eric and Simon raised their right hands at the same time, pointing them at each other.
From Eric’s palm, a blood tornado formed and expanded toward Simon like that of a snake.
On the other hand, Simon unleashed his Lightning Discharge. The lightning bolt hit the blood tornado and obliterated it.
The elemental advantage was very clear, so it was useless for Eric to struggle.
Eric swiftly ran to the left as though he expected Simon to overwhelm his power. He then looped around the arena.
"It’s useless for you to go around. No matter how much you struggle against me, the result will remain the same." Simon snorted and used his lightning to boost his speed. He swiftly moved toward Eric and threw a punch at him.
Eric halted his steps, planted his left foot firmly in front, and threw a punch at Simon.
Their fists collided. Their energies clashed.
Unfortunately for Eric, the blood element was once again dispersed by the lightning. The lightning energy started to enter Eric’s hand and electrocuted him.
"Kh..." Eric gritted his teeth, but he was enduring the pain.
"See? This is useless. You are useless." Simon snorted. "Know that there is someone who will always be above you. No matter what you do, you won’t be able to surpass him."
Eric actually smirked at those words. "I do know that someone. Unfortunately, it’s not you!"
Eric’s eyes turned bloodshot as he ignored the pain in his hand and just pushed forward. He overwhelmed Simon with pure strength.
"!!!" Simon was startled. He tried to use more energy, but he was one step too late.
Eric stretched his right foot even further forward and used that form to gain even more momentum until he eventually overwhelmed Simon’s fist. Eric’s fist continued flying toward Simon’s face and knocked him back.
"And I still think I can win against him." Eric exhaled deeply. His right hand felt a bit numb, but he still managed to do it. Still, if he overexerted himself, he might lose the sensation in his entire arm for the duration of the fight.
"Gah." Simon took a few steps back while holding his nose. "You bastard. I’ve thought about sparing you with only a few bruises, but this time I’m going to ruin you!"
Simon used his Lightning Discharge to punish Eric, but the latter had already looped around the arena one more time.
Simon quickly recovered from the punch and matched Eric’s pace again. He raised his hands as a lightning ball formed on top of his head.
Surprisingly, instead of tossing the ball to Eric, Simon threw it to the ground. The lightning ball then let out a massive spark, hitting everything around it.
As a result, Eric, who was taking advantage of the side of the arena, was trapped.
Eric placed his hand on the floor, and blood surged, forming a wall. Sadly, the wall was nowhere near strong enough to withstand this attack.
The lightning simply tore it open and hit Eric.
Eric raised both arms, blocking it with his body armor.
"Kh..." Eric ground his teeth, having a hard time enduring this power. Still, Eric took another firm step and tilted his body sideways. His arms moved slightly as if they were deflecting the lightning to the side while his body started running again.
"I already said... It’s useless!" Simon harrumphed and caught up with Eric.
Eric halted his movement to throw a punch, but Simon simply grabbed Eric’s waist and spun his body so that he could use Eric’s momentum to pull him up and smash him to the ground.
Eric coughed up some acid when his back hit the floor.
Simon raised his right foot, trying to step on his face to humiliate him further.
Eric rolled his body at the last second and used his hands to lift his body up. Instead of going away, Eric actually moved closer to Simon and used his head to hit Simon’s stomach.
The lightning caused an excruciating pain, but Eric endured it so that he could deal some damage to Simon.
Once Simon took a step back, Eric could get back up properly. He pointed his palm at Simon and produced the same blood tornado.
Simon was pushed back, but his body armor was made of the lightning element, so the damage he received wasn’t that bad.
He moved his arms and grabbed the blood tornado before squeezing it, his lightning element dispersing the blood element.
Simon sprang forward and kicked Eric, who could only try to block it. The lightning element enhanced the kick, blowing Eric ten meters away.
After that, Simon used his Lightning Discharge and hit Eric.
"Geukkkk!" Eric’s eyes were wide open as he felt his body burning from the inside.
"This is painful. All of you shouldn’t care about the points anymore. Auric, tell your friend to just give up." Arina warned him. She felt pity. Eric seemed to be someone who could become a great fighter in the future. If not for the elemental advantage, he could probably put up a fight against Simon.
Ran and Milinda seemed to have the same idea, judging from their expressions. There were only two people whose expressions didn’t change—Auric and Ellia.
Ellia’s combat sense noticed something crucial in this fight. "Your friend... is going to win?"
"!!!" Arina and the others were dumbfounded. If it was Auric’s assessment, they would probably just judge it as Auric being optimistic.
However, Ellia’s assessment was never careless. Even she didn’t expect Eric to really have a chance to win.
But from what she could see, her combat sense deemed Eric to truly have a chance.
Auric smiled, feeling nostalgic. "All I know is that Eric is a man of commitment. If he commits to something, he will pursue it with everything he has. No matter what you say, he will endure everything.
"His mother once asked me to yield to Eric just once because she was worried about Eric after seeing him passed out in his bedroom with blood flowing out of his nose simply because he studied for too long."
Ellia’s combat sense was also telling her that Eric still thought he had a chance to win. And this change didn’t come from blind confidence.
Eric was still hiding something, and that something was coming.
"Blame yourself for not giving up!" Simon harrumphed and charged toward Eric, planning to torture him until Eric gave up.
Eric took a deep breath and raised his thumb and index finger. After that, he cut his thumb using the nail on his index finger, causing blood to flow.
He then clenched his fists, joined them together, and spread them as though he were drawing a blade. "Sword, come forth!"
The blood that flowed from his thumb surged like a raging river and formed a sword.
"It’s useless!" Simon shouted while punching forward. His body armor could withstand the sharpness of the sword, his energy could destroy the blade, and his fist would definitely reach Eric.
Eric took another step forward and swung downward as if he were using everything he had in that swing.
"It looks like you are putting everything into this sword. Then, I will crush your hope!" Simon used everything he had in his fist.
Before the fist and the sword even made contact, the lightning spark alone had already shattered the blood sword. Simon’s punch would definitely heavily injure Eric or even kill him. The teacher had to stop it.
"Kyaaa!" A few students screamed, not ready to see someone die.
But from the beginning, Eric had never intended to win with his sword. He knew this would be the result, but he looked like he was betting everything on this sword, making the arrogant Simon commit everything he had.
In this instant, a thought flashed in Eric’s mind. ’It’s no wonder Auric can beat me all this time... Am I this predictable?’
Right before the fist reached his face, Eric abruptly lowered his body, avoiding it at the last moment. Then, he maintained a stable lower body and kicked Simon in the back of his knee, causing him to tilt forward.
Then, Eric formed another weapon, not a sword. It was long. Due to his forming speed, he could only form its long handle like a staff before he hit Simon in the back.
But that hit was not powerful enough to injure him. Instead, he used that hit to push Simon up and tossed him into the air.
Simon spun his body at the last moment and landed safely, as his body had turned around upon landing.
Eric’s weapon was revealed. It was not a sword, a staff, or a spear. It was a scythe, a massive one.
He spun the scythe to maintain its momentum and rotated his body to get the right angle.
Eric lowered his scythe and swung upward as though he were scooping the top layer of the floor and turning it into a massive blood wave.
"No matter what you do, you won’t be able to beat me." Simon lowered his hand and released a burst of lightning, dispersing the blood wave that almost washed him away. "Because I’m a genius!"
To his surprise, the blood wave was just a means to cover Simon’s eyes. Eric was following right behind the wave. He knew Simon would disperse it.
"!!!" Simon took a step back, but he immediately grabbed the scythe to destroy it. Without any weapons, Eric wouldn’t be able to win.
He succeeded in destroying the blade of the scythe, but Eric never cared about the scythe. He knew Simon could block the scythe just fine.
That was why he formed his weapon with his blood instead of using the real weapon. It made his weapon even more flexible.
Eric took a step to the left, looping around Simon. The ruined scythe recovered almost instantly.
He had been using his body to withstand Simon’s energy most of the time. That was why his current energy should have been higher than Simon’s.
He poured all that energy into this one moment, speeding up the scythe’s reconstruction.
There was another reason he used a scythe as a weapon. Due to its long and curved blade, it was a tricky weapon to handle.
Once Simon destroyed the blade, he would lose his grip on the weapon.
Then Eric smoothly twisted it and reconstructed the blade beside Simon’s neck before swinging it.
Bam!
The blood energy gushed out and dispersed in all directions, forming a circle. However, it wouldn’t have dispersed if not for the barrier that appeared around Simon’s neck.
The teacher had stopped the match.
Even he was shocked. To think that Eric would actually beat Simon.
"E-Eric won!"
Eric simply raised his scythe as if he were announcing his victory.
"!!!"
The arena fell silent for a few seconds before cheers erupted, causing it to shake.
"Uoohhh!"
"Amazing!"
"He won?!"
The crowd couldn’t contain their shock, even more so for Simon. He was supposed to win.
Arina, Ran, and Milinda dropped their jaws. They bet on Eric just because of Auric. They never expected Eric to win. Yet, Auric had predicted it correctly, and Ellia seemed to be able to see through Auric’s confidence in the middle of the match.
"No way! I should have won. I have Grade S affinity. I have an extreme variant of the lightning element. I have an absolute elemental advantage against you! I’m a genius. I should have won!" Simon turned around to protest.
"Haa..." Eric let out a long sigh, showing his disappointment in Simon directly. His face turned solemn as he shouted. "SHUT UP!"
"!!!" Simon’s body shook.
Even people who were cheering fell silent.
For that brief moment when the arena fell quiet, Eric stated in a serious tone. "I have been chasing a monster all this time. I can’t let a mere GENIUS stop me!"
